'Lo guys!

Basically this post is here to find out what your experiences of PlanetSide have been. I want to know how you came across this wondrous game, your first few back-flashes as a newb stepping onto Auraxis and your best memory so far since playing. Why? Maybe because my computers broke and waiting to be fixed and need something to fill my time as I crave more PS, or to give people a chance to reflect and remember those 'Wow' moments PlanetSide has been able to provide from the beginning and share them with people from all around the globe with similar experiences, or even tell new guys 'n' gals of what you can expect from this great game.

Here's mine:

It was around five-six years ago as I was playing a game called 'Boundless Planet' (ermahgerd it's still up :D http://www.boundlessplanet.com/) I was twelve at the time and wanted to expand my AOI, so I built up an army and moved in on one of my neighbours named Gusty88. I was hoping he wasn't online, but he was and didn't fight back, so me and him started to chat. He then mentioned "I might head back to 'PlanetSide'" What was this 'PlanetSide' he mentions? So I then began my investigation on the interweb and found this.http://planetside.station.sony.com/

Being a simple minded twelve year old I thought ERMAHGAERD FLASHY THINGS. It looked amazing to me!

Then the time came, the game loaded up and I couldn't wait to jump in, sadly the only first few moments I have from the first time playing is dropping out of the sky in my TR drop pod, landing outside of Voltan on Hossin, while nearing the ground I saw a friendly harasser drive past my drop pod just as I landed. thats it, pretty shitty :D, probably because I thought 'Where teh feck am I and what do I do?'.

My best memories of PS can only be summarized in PS1, not PS2 unfortunately, doesn't offer those truly 'wow' moments, yet :) but too many to go through so can't really do this part myself so there can be no single amazing memory for me as PlanetSide has delivered too god damn many. My only hopes at the moment are that PS2, can live up to PS1 in the sense of those such moments such as the great last stands, the large 'Raids' that would build up in the sanctuary, re-securing a heavily guarded base with 1-2 seconds left on flip timer and of course - the sense of accomplishment after killing the bastard, pro-Magrider team Chal and Igster after 2 hours of harassment and finally ending their kill streak :D

ON A SIDE NOTE: That person I mentioned from Boundless Planet - Gusty88 - If you are out there somewhere I want to thank you for introducing me to this great game, and the even greater people and communities I have met since joining!

So now I say to you dear reader: It is your turn, for I shall be listening...

PS1: Friend of mine discovered it and got hooked. So far the reviews hadn't really convinced me but I decided to give it a try. I went into trial in 2003 and got bored very quickly. The promise was awesome but the game had way too much down time. Besides that, I hated the subscription model.

PS2 is a different story though. Couldn't wait to get into beta so when I did get in I immediately joined an outfit and started having a blast. Almost every week I encounter great story moments. Too many to tell although the massive, TR assault coordinated between 43 outfits last week on Indar on Miller was for sure a highlight.

I found PS1 through getting bored with grinding artisan in SWG (without a macro, naturally...) and I wanted to shoot something in the face. So, a guildie of mine says something about planetside having just released the last week. So, I went out and bought it, jumped ingame and joined a guild called D2A. Some guy going by the name of The3are1 was looking for people for his new Deaths Hand squad.

So, I joined up with that squad and they needed a pounder max (AI pounder at the time). Had no idea wtf it was, but I certed into it anyway. That thing was a fucking beast. First three weeks of death's and and ps1 for that matter for me, consisted of taking gens, blowing them up and holding them, along with practicing precise tower drops and taking them from the top down as a squad.

Later on, D2A expanded to NC Emerald. Naturally, I went with them. Joined the second genesis of Death's Hand. On Markov, we had already experimented with CE+cloaking to go in and prep a gen, most of us already knew how to prep a gen for a drop in under 30 seconds from hacking the gen door, with nothing but CE and a jammer. So, on emerald, we went the next logical step: squads of cloakers taking out entire bases.

TR and VS caught on, so that evolved my ability as a fast responder to counter our own tactics over time.

I've been a fucking addict since.

As for best memory... my fucking god, I've got a few. Thats hard to decide on.

edit: link in my sig: TOH: 21 Seconds is an excellent example of what I frikking loved about PS. Last second resecures that came down to the very wire, and likewise defending against them and winning.

I've got two fairly simple and straightforward stories as to how I discovered (and then rediscovered) my love of Planetside.
My Sergeant introduced me to the game post core-combat and I worked with him and the rest of the D2A crew on Emerald. We had some damn good times until I had to stop playing due to real life commitments.
Picked the game back up a couple years later, since no other game can do what Planetside did, on Gemini with BRTD as D2A wasn't around anymore and I've been TR ever since.

You were 12 when you started

And that makes you 17/18 now ....... so you only just scraped under the 18+ limit for BRTD :p

Most of my good/epic memories are from PS1 unfortunately :(

the first time I saw 50-100+ reavers flying overhead (it was an empire-wide reaver eent run by Stellerence)

A double gal drop we did on the CC of a hot VS help Amp Station and then held out for the full 15 minutes of the hack, depsite the VS max crashes.

The first time I opened a cont and then lead the capture of it against both VS and NC resistance.

The armour event we did with FDS on Esamir that turned into a full on empire armour event it seemed. (And we would have captured that cont too if it hadn't been for a sneak counter-attack by the mercs on Hossin).

The cave fighting! Epic fights in caves.

In PS2, there have been good times but only two stand out as epic.

Taking down a tech plant before it was nerfed with a generator move.

Farming a defended Bio Lab as the attacker beofre taking it down too.

Saw the PS1 box in a game store, didn't read it thoroughly enough to see it was a subscription but it had 3 free months. Also played with a 28k connection back then

First memory is walking up to a Maurader and jumping in the back and the dude takes off through the forest. Two reavers chasing us, and I was firing at them with the rear gun. Needless to say we didn't survive but it was quite the "holy crap this is awesome" moment.

First Memory. Massive Tank fight on Amerish. Running round like a tit getting ran over by friendly prowlers.
Seeing a max for the first time and thinking 'holy crap' I can get one of those!!!!
All the Blood Legion and KTF Generator Holds that we've ever been on.

Best Memory was pretty much the whole time we were in a magrider after we switched to VS. Laying tank traps for our old Blood Legion, BMC and BRTD friends and teasing them into our mine fields was just the most fun ever.
Scumbag XP Whoring on Hossin with 60% XP Bonus and defending TR and NC LLUs from each other while we had no bases there was always fun too. (The Magrider really really used to be overpowered!!)
Used to love dropping a resupply AMS at a non shield enemy base so we could hack out new magriders on hostile continents. Really felt like you were 'behind enemy lines'

Nah, Delta got in because he ******** the ******** ****** when ******** with his *****, turns out he ***** **** w/ *********** ****** real good!
I had to kinda do the same thing when I went to join but I didn't have any kneepads :(

My favorite moment in Planetside is one of my later ones on, of course, Hossin with BRTD defending some damn tech plant. This particular moment doesn't even have to do with me as I was on the opposite side of the base trying to push back in and get the tubes up.
With less than three seconds on the hack Bert (Wish he came over and played PS2 with us) snuck his cloaker ass into the CC and re-secured the whole damn thing!

My second favorite moment was one of my earlier ones. My first gen hold with D2A on Emerald. I don't even remember where since I was new to the game but it was, without a doubt, some of the best fun I've ever had inside a video game.

Well around 12, and was a very quiet kid even when I got onto voice comms with KDL who, without a doubt, poisened my mind lol :D
Will have to get back into a fight with them guys though when computers back

And scrapped past BRTD age limit when I joined because there was no limit when then :)

Had too many in PS1 to count, can't pick a single best one.

Haven't had anything great happen in PS2, it's not a bad game but it's just a bigger BF3 at this point. Oddly enough, most battles in PS1 felt like they were larger than any of the battles I've had in PS2.

Some of my best memories in PS1 were gen holds with incredible odds. I'd give anything for an epic PS1-style gen hold in PS2, but there are so many spread out in the open throughout the base that a situation like that isn't possible anymore. Sometimes you'd have breaks in the fight when each side had to revive and resupply before they made another push. Now that revives are instant, you can just start jumping around guns blazing as soon as you click accept. The feeling of having your med-app out for 10 seconds, vulnerable, and running out of med juice added to the 'desperation'. Running low on ammo was great too, you'd have to share your ammo with your teammates if you wanted to keep up your firepower. Now you just shit an ammo box out of your ass and everyone is at 100% all the time.

Can't wait for PS1 to go F2P

Probably my first memory from PS1 was - "holy shit these Reavers are destroying me."
Of course those super Reaverer were nerfed in a matter of weeks.

My best memory was landing on a plateu that towered over a base in a mossie - then sniping everyone.

My first memory of PS1 was dropping on Ish in a max running from base to base wondering why I kept arriving at the fight just as it ends, once i certed a vehicle things went much better.

Best memory is tricky there was loads of them to pick from.
The early days on TR with Oste leading loads of gal drops on werner, the last minute resecures on red alert bases, hero ants gal'ing in on an almost drained base under heavy attack. Then there's the Blood Legion moments all the gen holds, prowler action and my favourite outfit event night "The Raider night" with 6 full raiders taking out everything in the way.
In the last few years of PS1 once the servers merged me and Igstar made the switch to VS and had tons of great times in the Magrider making some friendly rivalries along the way, always made it extra fun to hunt them down or be hunted down. Seeing a full size Azure Twillight max crash form up and charge into a base always gave me a smile too.

So far on PS2 it has been lacking on the awesome moments but hopefully they'll come with time. The biggest highlights for me have been shooting ESF's and Libs out of the sky from long range with the mag and killing people I recognise from ps1. So if you see me in a tank and you know me from PS1 I'm probably on ts saying "omg there's *you* lets get him!". Much  for the ps1 vets. :p

PS1: First week game was out was playing VS on Emerald and we were getting ready to open a cont (don't remember which one) and there had to be 10-20 gals on the ground in the sanc with a few guys directing traffic "infantry in first 10, max's in next 5, when those are full load into the others!" a bunch of A2A fighters and A2G fighters were gathering at different end of the sanc and then at once they fighters moved through the WG then the max gals then the inf gals. It was just the most awesome thing to be a part of i wasn't in an outfit yet was just a pubbie in a MAX and suddenly i was apart of this 100+ person assault on this continent... was just awe inspiring.

PS2: Beta first day Esamir was out on WEST01, VS. So It was night (beta night so it was really dark) and we are moving out to take a tower on the edge of the TR/VS territory there is already a huge fight going on there 1st Platoon was armor/infantry and they were tangled up hard at Sierro listening post TR owned it(warp gates were fliped at this time with VS holding current TR warpgate) 2nd platoon was loaded in Gals and we were gonna hit it hard with a hot drop forcing them to pull back into base so 1st Platoon could push in. As we are flying in i can just see this line from the VS warpgate all the way to the front lines of Mags, Sundies, Lightnings and Flashes and the only way they are illuminated is by the occasional headlights left on. Looking ahead i can see a similar line coming from Eisa tech of TR Vehicles and then this line were the two forces have each taken a side of the road and are just HAMMERING each other. Tracers flying all over, mag plasma arching through the air, and the constant explosions of vehicles brewing up. As we pass over the frontlines the Gals start taking heavy AA fire but they are just able to survive long enough to dump the infantry on the tower. As i land i have to stop and just stare, the AA turrets are going full throttle showering the tower with flashes and shadows the fire fight out front had really heated up and was a constant light show and overhead the Aurora Borealis was going strong.

We eventually hacked the terminals and were able to get a sundie up allowing us to get behind the TR perimeter defenses and win the battle. To this day every time that i feel bored or not enjoying PS2 i think back to that fight and remember the beauty and the grandeur i felt when i hit that air pad.

I came to play PS1 sometime in the 2003, I was 14 at the time.

I originally didn't know anything about MMO-games at the time since I didn't really play them, I was playing mostly Tribes 2 at the time. I had this small clan in it and we played some ladder matches and such. Then one day, some of my clanmates were talking about this game. And I decided I want to try it out too myself, so I downloaded the game. Took me over 24 hours with my connection, lol. I had to leave my computer on over-night and once I came back from school. It was just about done.

So I jumped into the game and on Werner-server IIRC as a vanu, first thought was kinda meh. Then I looked at the map and saw multiple massive continents colored in red/blue/purple and some had flashing thingies (hotzones). So my friend told me to get into the HART, took me bit of time to workout how it worked cause I didn't even know where that was. But after 10-15 minutes I got into the HART-shuttle. I dropped on Amerish near the base my friend told me to.

After that, shooters were never the same for me again, the game was essentially a shooter that I had fantasized about all my gaming-life...I couldn't play more than the trial since I didn't have a credit-card at the time. But eventually I got to play a lot more as I got my card and I also used the reserves-program to play, it didn't matter at all that I couldn't have as much stuff as my main had, I still enjoyed the game immensely. The metagame kept me hooked in the game for all these years, I especially have fond memories of fighting at Esamir, anytime a fight started over there, I allways had to join in.

I eventually came to join NC, mostly because my best friend wanted to join them. And I'm glad I did, I read the backstory of the game and loved the weaponry, especially the gauss rifle.

I never ever played TR, even though I have propably cumulatively spent over 1000 hours in the game and multiple characters.

I've played in multiple outfits, most of them I've forgotten. But one that vaguelly stuck in my mind was an outfit Called "Northern lights" or some such. Every now and then when I got back to PS1, someone I couldn't remember still knew me, I found that kinda nice. :)

My memories of PS2 have been kinda meh so far, I do hope it surpasses PS1 in the future in every aspect.
