It has come to my attention that there is a dire dire situation going on in Auraxis. It seems that some troops in the various factions are gaining favor with the evil giraffe spirits to make them cause enemy troops to act oblivious to them. For this reason, we should place a bounty on all troops wearing giraffe camo, since this is clearly a result of diabolical rituals involving skinned giraffe ghosts.

Haha.. poor skinned giraffes.

Perhaps something in a leopard print or tiger strip next time... maybe some chiffon?

So you noticed that this camo makes you invisible to others, yet you continued to exploit it. Wait, of course you did! This is Planetside 2...

Personally, I'd give you a week suspension.

The vids don't belong to me, I just thought I would start a thread about the Legend of the Giraffe Camo.

Edit: And after looking it up, it seems the real issue is that a vanu light assault wearing giraffe camo apparently resembles an NC trooper. No idea what's up with them ignoring the tank though. :P

This kind of thing is a problem both ways round - I often see friendlies wearing camo that makes them look like enemies, and sometimes shoot them accidentally before I realise - and some enemies look like friendlies because of their camo, which gives them the split-second advantage they need to kill me.

Honestly the solution seems simple: make sure that all camo patterns contain prominent empire colours and never use colours of enemy empires. That means no blue or yellow in VS camo, and no all-white camos, etc.

More of that camo being so blendable (not a word) with whats around and it having so little faction colors to it. That tank had only a few red strips and without a clear view of it's outline looks a LOT like a rock.

Get near anything brown and that camo does a good job, to good maybe. Not even the winter camos can be that well hidden on Esamir. Look here at NC winter camo with armor over all the classes.
Planetside 2 Camo / Armor / Helmet Setup for Esamir (Rocky Tundra) - YouTube
Even though that blends with snow very well, there's a lot of black, blue, and yellow clearly visible.

Here's a bunch of VS camos (1:50 shows winter camos for a comparison to the other video)
PlanetSide 2 - Camouflage - YouTube
Im not seeing hardly any faction colors other than the chest icon, helmet, and gun. Some helmets can get camo and guns as well, so that leaves a chest icon for faction colors. Not much to rely on when troop outlines are only class dependent, not faction.

Can't be bothered to look up TR camos to see how much faction colors they keep as it's 3:33am for me now. Yet from seeing those 2 videos, it seems like the VS are getting a great deal with camos not showing purple and green as much as the blue and yellow in NC camos. Might be something to look into balance wise.

For identifying VS I tend to look at the guns to see if they're carrying some sort of neon playskool devices, rather than their camo. >.>

Mostly down to the very dark colours that are identifiable. NC and TR's blue/yellow and red/black respectively contrast much stronger than dark purple and light teal.

I think my Alpha Squad camo is getting me killed.

I had a similar inkling so I switched over to all three winter/desert/woodland camo's depending on which continent I'm playing on, I do catch the occasional bullet from another TR player who's not sure but I have been caught cold by a few NC and VS whom I'm sure didn't shoot at me while they were having a double check... fatally so for them :D
So I must admit I do think the proper camo is working.

I switched too and noticed a big change.

Agree....and I feel no remorse when this happens. If you're going to wear camo that makes you look like the enemy, it's your fault.

Since I guess nobody has pointed it out in this thread yet, this has nothing to do specifically with the giraffe camo, it's just faulty human hardware. You can do the exact same thing in default camo with any class and faction, however obscuring your faction colors and being VS(so you always look like an infiltrator, or rather all infs look like VS instead of their actual faction) make it easier to get away with.
