Ok, I think the game is going in the right direction in the next 6 months. I wish there were 2 continents being released, but that's just what I wish.
can anyone post the info here ? it doesn't seem to load
Same. Won't load for me.
For those that can't access the page, here's a cut and paste from the page:
January - SMGs
We want to add a new weapon type, the Submachine Gun (SMG), to the game. The current plan is to make them accessible to all classes outside of the MAX Stats on the individual weapons will vary... Read More
January - Rendering Distance Based on Threat
We want to mitigate the impact of render distance on enemies that are a direct threat. For example, anyone that pilots air vehicles can probably attest to how lame it is to get shot down by AA players... Read More
January - Spawn Room Tunnel System
In our ongoing effort to mitigate spawn camping, we're planning on adding some spawn room tunnel networks to provide additional escape paths. The current plan is to add these to all Tech Plants and... Read More
January - Window Plugs
We are making windows all across Auraxis’ bases and facilities smaller, so it should be tougher for tanks and planes to shoot into buildings.
January - Tower Redesign
The layout of towers will be altered to include more shields and an additional exit from the spawn room. The hope is to make spawn camping in the towers a more difficult proposition.
January - More secure spawn rooms at small outposts
This entails adding more windows and doors, as well as a canopy to protect against aircraft. This should make spawn camping more difficult and will be present across all small outposts.
January - Destroying the SCU only penalizes Spawn Timers
Currently, destroying an Spawn Control Unit (SCU) completely removes that Spawn point from the facility until it is repaired. Unfortunately this can have the effect of ending a fight too quickly and... Read More
January - Creating "No Deploy" zones for AMS equipped Sunderers
We are currently discussing mechanics which would allow designers to designate areas within a base or facility that Sunderers cannot deploy in. The initial use of this ability will be to disallow... Read More

We want to display the total Experience bonus percentage rewarded whenever you get the applicable experience. Currently this would show as a small popup next to your Cert point display right above the... Read More
January - Experience Incentives
The idea behind this Incentive system is that higher “priority” targets are worth more experience than others. So killing someone on a wicked kill streak nets you more XP than killing someone... Read More
February - Empire Specific Rocket Launchers
We would like to add Empire-specific rocket launchers, including things like player guided rockets, multiple lock-on swarm missiles, and a charge fire mode into the mix.
\February - Vehicle Update: Flash
We want to add new abilities and weapons to the Flash. Current ideas include: Adding additional weapon types Wraith (cloaking the quad) option for infiltrators We're still brainstorming, so call out... Read More
February - Pump Action Shotguns
We would like to add a new weapon type, the Pump Action Shotgun. These shotguns fill a similar role to the existing semi-auto’s already in game, but trade rate of fire for increased damage.
February - VR Training Area
Learning how to play the game under live fire conditions can be pretty daunting. To help address this, we’re planning on adding in a VR Training zone that will be a safe haven for players to try out... Read More
February - Orbital Strike
Orbital Strikes are intended to help push enemy players out of an area by turning that area into a series of large explosions. Players should have enough warning time to potentially escape the area,... Read More
February - Spectator Mode
We would like to add Spectator Mode for live gameplay observation.

February - Account Level Unlocks
We would like items purchased with Station Cash to be unlocked across all characters on the account who can utilize them. This change would be retroactive to prior purchases.
February - Increase the number of vehicle cosmetic slots
We offer a bunch of sweet cosmetic customizations for vehicles, but we only let you equip them one at a time. We'd like to add additional slots that will let you equip multiple customizations on your... Read More
February - Separate Score from Experience
At the moment experience and score are tied too closely together, so if you buff your experience, you end up buffing your score as well. That’s misleading and not really fulfilling the intention for... Read More

I am torn. There are more than a few good items in here. There also seems to be a lot of filler like player designed decals, new pistols, facebook/twitter integration, in game mail. All these things are nice but they dont do much to address the problems the game currently has.
The update next week may be key to the long term health of PS2. If the new spawn rooms, defensive tunnels and such help in terms of creating defensive lines we may be okay. If not and the game continues to be zerg from bio lab to tech plant, or amp station to bio lab, etc, etc it may be in trouble.

Thanks for the summary. With the amount of things on that list that were playable during beta and brought up by the players during beta, it's safe to say the game released a year too early. Most of the things on the list should have been in at launch. Looks like another Jump to Lightspeed to me. That's not to say that the list isn't full of great stuff, just that whole "one chance to make a first impression" thing was really lost with this game's launch. Oh well, maybe the next one won't be launched too early, eh Smed?

That's the whole purpose behind the "Reddit" style they went with. They want the community to let them know what's important and what's not.

I think because right now there is really no point in fighting for a continent completely. Once the pops get completely unbalanced, everybody just logs off as one side camps the crap out of a continent they own. This leads to population imbalances and a lot of boring gameplay.
Locking a continent would prevent people from actually playing on said continent and would FORCE them to leave. Not just sit there and warpgate camp and drive population away. This would make more interesting and heated battles all around.

Class revamp on light assault first? What about infiltrator? You know, that class that is all but useless and doesn't have half the tools it needs to fulfill its role? The one that's already outclassed at its supposed role in every way by the... wait for it... light assault.

Lol I am PUMPED about that Light Assault re-vamp.
Duel weilding sounds awesome, but I hope it doesn't become the LA's most powerful asset.
I still want normal ADSing to be effective on the class.
I get what you mean, but cloaking and hacking are powerful abilities.
Not to mention you'll have the ability to use SMGs very soon.
Maybe infs do need a bit more utility, but I'm sure it will be addressed anyway.
I'm personally very impressed with the roadmap.
Only thing that confuses me is there was no mention of changing up the weapon models.

Seriously? Hacking is a novelty at best right now compared to PS1 hacking. Cloaking lasts 12 seconds, makes noise when you cloak or uncloak, and is completely useless closer than 50m unless you're crouched and sitting still (this is the part where the 12 seconds really comes into play).
As for the SMG's, yes they're going to be much welcomed. Once we actually have a reason to get into close range that is. Like say, hacking an enemy Sunderer or planting some C4. Until then they'll only be for the hardcore masochists who like having 100 less shielding and a class ability that artificially gimps your reaction time.
MrBloodworth
2013-01-25, 12:32 PM
Guess we will be standing around forever near capture points, instead of hacking them. And defenders will still be asked to work twice as hard ( Due to the "tug of war" system ) to take a point back. ( As opposed to instant resecures. )

Having read the synopsis posted I'm disappointed because these are not the things friends no longer playing PS2 are after.
It might make for a great modern FPS. But it's not a step towards including that spirit at the core gameplay of PS1.
March: Continental Locking
"In order to start laying the foundation for a proper metagame.."
Everything on that list should be about a proper metagame. That was the spirit of PS1 that is so badly lacking.
June: Vehicle Zoning
"We would like to allow vehicles to travel between continents by entering the Warpgate"
This was one of the single most immersive features in PS1. Another 6 months? 9 months after release.
More guns, more camo, cosmetic options. Wasting time and assets on the big picture. We might have come back the next day to find Amerish an enemy colour. But tonight - it's ours.
Get us more continents.
Get us moving through warpgates.
Get us fighting on a grand scale without the stupid circles where we take and retake the same bases ten times a night.
Make locking a continent actually both an acheivement and a progression.
Get us more base types
Fix the hexes in terms of a lattice progression
Fix the fights so that we don't whack-a-mole
Reward us for not needing to fight because we hold a locked continent.
Each month they're going to visit a class it seems and give them new tools and features. Will that make them flavour of the month.
Will it make them the most powerful - there is power in utility. Will it just extend peoples grind to get certs because there is something "new".
There is no game benefit to Orbital Strike right now. Nothing in this game requires it - it is just something cool to grind for.
Problem is I don't think most of their playerbase want that spirit from PS1. So the cool loadout options and new cosmetic items win.
Outfit combat? Leaderboards? I'm not in competition with them. Either the enemy or my empire. That's the damn e-sports. I don't care if my men kill nothing and never capture a base. You make outfits compete and they'll stop co-operating in a race to reach the top.
I'm very disappointed.
We'll have some elite killers focussed on outfit esports and a significant churn in players. But I still can't say to all those PS1 players that they even plan to put the old spirit back into the game.

I haven't had a chance to read it, but the whole eSport thing is a giant turnoff for me and I'm more of a competitive gamer than the average player. If it's only outfit competition then I don't see it as a bad thing, outfits competing against each other is always a good thing. That should make the game thrive I would think. Unless they somehow make it instanced competition in which case it's a giant fail.
Also, all you guys who have been whining about defensive issues, aren't they addressing that in the January update? Defender Only Jumppads is a huge change and IMO a great one. Spawn room changes can only help rather than hurt. AMS changes I assume are to prevent the Sunderers from deploying in non-logical locations which almost always benefit the attacker. SCU changes will make defending zones that are being bum-rushed possible. The Window Plugs are a giant change against all heavy weapons, which will make it so Vehicles are less important for big base fights, hopefully.
idk, seems they're doing a lot of what people asked. I agree there are other things that could be focused(another continent, more meta) but for a 6-month plan this isn't too bad IMO.

Nobody cares about that, for it to actually get a chance would mean some pretty slick manipulation of the system by someone, maybe SOE themselves! hah.
January looks like a great start. That is the result of listening to the community. But it really tails off in quality after that. February and March are alright, where there are some important updates in there, but after that...
Hopefully they do continue to listen because the difference between January and May/June is just like night and day. It seems like they pulled a lot of stuff out their ass just to have something down for the later months.

Fuck your daily achievements and their stupid fucking medals (or whatever they end up giving you) and the whole piece of shit daily achievement system. That's not a real reason to play this game, It's artificial as fuck and adds little to nothing of value. As soon as I get the chance I'm going to downvote the absolute piss out of this just to see what happens because fuck that stupid silly shit.

As it appears i am hitting the post length limit, this will be split up into multiple posts.
January - SMGs

This is really only relevant for Infiltrators imho. They need a close combat option. Unfortunately i expect another wave of crying like when they had shotguns, resulting in massive nerfs and / or removal of SMGs from Infiltrators.

January - Window Plugs
We are making windows all across Auraxis’ bases and facilities smaller, so it should be tougher for tanks and planes to shoot into buildings.
This is a poor and insufficient stopgap measure to reduce the impact of bad building and outpost design.

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4018/booy.png
January - Tower Redesign
The layout of towers will be altered to include more shields and an additional exit from the spawn room. The hope is to make spawn camping in the towers a more difficult proposition.
This is very important, and i hope the solution will be a good one.

January - More secure spawn rooms at small outposts
This entails adding more windows and doors, as well as a canopy to protect against aircraft. This should make spawn camping more difficult and will be present across all small outposts.
Judging from the FNO pictures, the redesign is a very good one. However, outpost layout will still be super important, getting lib/tank camped 2m outside of your spawn or 10m outside of your spawn is no significant difference. We need infantry fight over the control points, THAT is what we should use to measure success or failure of any spawn building and base layout changes. From the availablem info so far, i give you a

This is a horrible idea. I liked SCUs in every outpost as we had in beta. It gave real, viable and important strategic targets to attack and hold to small, squad sized units. It was good for infantry combat. It encouraged Gal drops. I was unhappy with your decision to remove them from most bases. And now you want to make it even less important? This is a bad, very bad direction. What you should do instead is to finally design bases around the concept of layered defense, and put the SCU where the defenders can actually do something about it, by using infantry inside defendable building structures accessable even when there is a million lib/tanks outside.
This idea sucks, and for that i give you a

No, no no no no. NO! AMS placement and AMS hunting are vital parts of the whole attack and defense game. The fact that you need inside sundies to defend most bases tells you something about their failed design when it comes to defensible layouts. Instead of blocking sundies from deploying in certain bases, you should make vehicle shields meaningful by A: Putting their gens inside buildings the defenders can actually defend with infantry, and B: closing the huge holes that you call infantry gates, that sunderers can simply drive through without any significant problems.

I thought about it since it got announced, and i think invulnerability uppon revive is outright horrible, and invulnerability when spawning on an AMS is also not a good idea. How often have you been near an hostile AMS as an infantry guy, and because you were out of mines/c4 you had to kill the spawning guys and wait for your teammate to run up with explosives? I have been there many times. Emptying a mag into someone who is invulnerable, and i can not tell when he stops being invulnerable, to then die while reloading simply sucks. And if the AMS gets camped by a lib and / or tank, for that one it does not matter at all if people die to the current salvo of explosive death or the next one. All in all, a bad idea, earning you a

Why did you even put deconstruction into the game with it serving no other purpouse but to deny people a kill? And now wait till June to fix it? Not cool.

Who is Dave!!?? What's his career history like? Did he work on PS1? I'm not disagreeing with you, I think Higby is a terrible person and should have been fired long ago but how do you know Dave is any better?
You have the same internet as the rest of us...
While I do agree that Smokejumper is one of SOE's biggest assets (and should be CEO), I am not on board with spamming this thread with negative sentiments toward Higby. Of course Dave is the better person for the job, just like Raph Koster would be handy to have on staff for understanding the hows and whys of player actions and interaction, but Higby can do the job too. It's just a matter of putting the lessons of the past into action rather than foolishly trying to "make something better" while ignoring the lessons...

MY OVERALL RATING.
Please keep in mind this is a preliminary rating based on very little information and details. I want to give a good, fast feedback on the first impression i have of this 6 - month plan.
Some of the things might turn out better or worse than expected.
With that said, what is my first feeling?
Disappointment. Both because some things i feel are vital and important are so far down the road ( Outfit functionallity, more Maps ), but even more so because some things did not get any mention at all.
No word on population management or server merges, or on how you plan to keep a sufficiently high player population to have interesting battles. Planetside 2 sucks when there are not enough players online. This is the by far biggest threat and problem for the game, and all we get from you is utter silence on that topic.
The entire complex set of topics that people like to call "Meta Game", and that i would like to call additional strategic and tactical layers, did only get scratched very little and on the surface, and apparently everything related to it is a far future, cloudy subject. IT SHOULD BE THE MAIN DEVELOPMENT FOCUS RIGHT HERE AND NOW.
No word on giving Bases meaningful benefits. No word on adding viable attack / sabotage targets for squad sized units. No word on cross continent warfare. No word on meaningful benefits for taking and defending a continent. And so on.
I think you have failed to present a big picture and vision we have been waiting for. There are many good detail solutions, and those save you from earning a thumb down rating.
But i feel you are not pushing hard enough to move this game away from "instant action to a random place, shoot random guys in the face, zerg around a bit and quit" to something bigger, deeper and more fulfilling for people who want to play this in the long run. It feels like fast food. I like fast food occasionally, but i do not want to eat it every day. Where is the Planetside1 flavoured chocolate cake?

It cost money to get Dave on this project. He is on EqNext. Problem is we have stupid creative dir on Ps2 who is overpaid.
Matt just need to leave this project, he is of no value add.
If SOE is serious about this title they will make the hard decision and realize Matt's dream is short and I hope John will re-assign Dave to this project.
To be quiet honest with you, Higby needs to take a hike while Dave has some opportunity to save this game.

I don't know why everyone is so negative about esport. In my opinion if done right it can benefit the game in a huge way.
There will be events where outfit can fight each other and prove themselves. Isn't that what was a mayor part in PS1. Competing against other
outfits? They will get their own temporary small maps without interference from other players, and lets be honest if other players where around they would most like get the blame for things gone wrong anyway.
If done right there could be a huge inflow of new players and with them money and it would help to prolong the lifetime of the game. There would also
not be much influence to the normal game as they could only open the small maps for tournaments. Every training for the outfits has to be done in the normal game environment. So we see more teamwork ingame too.
There could even be RTS influence to the game where the platoon commander will be responsible only for giving commands via map and putting tasks on it and he has only information available that is provided by his soldiers.
Another major factor would be a better balance as you only can be succesful with a well balanced game.

I agree! It does look to have a lot of what the community has been asking for. I don't understand some of the rage folks are communicating here about it. Rome wasn't built in a day... Yes, some of the things are quick fixes and not full out resolutions but they stated they would be a while back anyways. I don't mind quick fixes or small tweaks here and there to try and fix the issue. Allows the devs to evaluate what the next step should be in a more precise manner imo.

I think E-Sports done correctly could be fantastic.
Make it conquest related... make it so each member can only respawn from tubes a set # of times (medic revivals wouldn't count) before they are out of the battle permanently.
But... if it's some silly version that involves which outfit figures the best way to farm score - no.

So many posts made. I got mine in early. This is going to become convoluted very quickly.
On that note though they are planning faction specific running animations. I'm so glad they have priorities. I feel like their design team didn't try with a few of these as they're really bad and essentially designed to be small things with the goal to use as few resources to complete as possible.

I am most disappointed not to see WEATHER on the list.
I understand that some kind of final imagined version of weather might not technically appropriate, at this time... but it seems like more variety to the environmental effects that are in the game (sand/snow storms, fog, cloud cover) would not be too difficult to arrange... and would add to the game.

I actually like Harvey's burgers, but then again they are by far the slowest "fast food" makers on Earth.
PS2 is more like "Chinese food": It's fairly cheap, fills you up for a short period of time and leaves you feeling empty far sooner than you would have imagined. After a day or two the experience is easily forgotten and thus will be repeated multiple times periodically, but not regularly.

Dear SOE devs,
Can you please explain to me why in 2013 you struggle to produce a successor to a 2003 game that had at launch:
- 10 continents
- Sanctuaries
- VR training
- Inventory system
- A fully working metagame
- Continent locks
- A working resource system (NTU)
- a global weather system
- Defendable bases
- 5 different base types
- A global lattice
I'm not a game developer, but you don't need to be a musician to understand music or an artist to understand art. When I look at the road map I, as a gamer, am having serious doubts if you even understand what a Planetside game should be about.
So why do you keep ignoring the feedback we gave in beta and after release and still insist on reinventing the wheel? Why do you still want to make Planetside 2 into some weird Battlefield and social media mashup? Facebook and Twitter integration? E-sports? More guns? Really? How about adressing the major issues first? Continents. Meta game. Resource system. How about making the game actually enjoyable first and only then wonder if new run animations and taunts are really a needed addition?
And in case you haven't noticed: Servers are getting more empty by the day. It's not rocket science: The game currently does not keep it's players interested for more then a few months. For a game that is free to play that means that whatever you are doing, is not the correct way of doing it. So, for once, will you please not be as stubborn as heck and will you finally listen to your veterans, your customers? Ditch this roadmap and start working on the things that really matter so we can have a game worthy of the Planetside name.
You want this game to be a success, and so do we. Let's make it happen.
Regards,
Aveox

Instead, p0intman and rockit are shitting up the thread and just hating on a game they probably don't play. I fail to see how anything you guys are doing or saying is helping make the game better. - 10 continents * One PS2 continent takes about 6 times the work of a PS1 continent
That's by choice. Totally depends on the amount of detail you want to put into it. You can either have one ultra-detailed continent or have 6 lesser detailed continents but a working meta game. The former will produce great screenshots. The latter will produce great gameplay and can still easily be improved with some art passes later on.
- Sanctuaries *Design Decision. They put the sancs on the continent rather than behind a loading screen
Warpgate is not the same as Sanctuary. Not by a longshot.
- VR training * Design Decision. They also focused on getting the game done rather than adding VR
Which was a terrible idea, especially since you have to pay cash or grind certs to buy new weapons and there is no option to undo a choice.
- Inventory system * Design Decision. Personally, I think the class system is far better than PS1's inventory for a number of reasons.
That's open for debate. Fact is that it was there, along with backpack looting and lockers.
- A fully working metagame * Lack of continents makes a meaningful metagame very hard
- Continent locks * Only 3 continents doesn't allow this to work in a meaningful way in PS2
Which is exactly the point. PS1 already suffered from the "no end goal" issue, so why make it even worse in the second game?
- A working resource system (NTU) * Added in a patch in PS1. Were not in at launch
Present at launch. Some of the first things I did in PS1 was ANT runs.
- a global weather system * Did this ever work? Whenever I played it was nothing or turned off
It worked. Thunderstorms and rain on Amerish/ Forseral. Duststorms on Oshur and Ishundar. You could see weather fronts moving across the global map as green, yellow and red circles to indicate intensity.
- Defendable bases * But not interesting. Lets fight over a long tunnel with no cover
As opposed to swiss cheese and Liberator camped spawns?
- 5 different base types * All of them were the saaaammmee
Have you seen the bases in PS2? They are all the same as well. Only the outposts are different.
- A global lattice * Added in Aftershock
Wrong. Fully working in late beta. Aftershock had this stupid bending to make it a constellation instead of a planet.
So no. No rose tinted glasses here my friend!

Well, at least they're broaching the topic. That's something. Next thing you know they'll broach the idea of having, like, some kind of power system, like a nanite ley line, connecting all the bases together.... and it channelizes the zergs at each other, and if your base gets surrounded, it starts to run out of nanites....

As a loyal Terran, I have to say it's bullshit that the Vanu MAX won't get jump jets for its special ability. You trade the armament on one arm, you get jump jets with a slower regen than HA. They should want what's best for the game in the LONG term . tbh i rather have my meta game at this passe , they are doing it now than having the amazing gameplay of ps1 just to have the game fail because new players can't get into the game .
PS1 failed because of horrible advertising and a too steep learning curve for the average person . If we get people in game now and they stick then we can thrown in all the good and complex things which are a good thing you are right but everything has a right time to come in

If PS1 is really that good then why aren't the complainers playing it?:)
The list is good for the most part (only missing Searhus, really weird that one). At least you get intel here, I don't think other MMO developers would ever try to do this, it's quite insane and maybe even counterproductive but that is something we'll have to see in the end.
As for all the "should have been in at release", "they've got loads of cash and developers, why doesn't it go faster", "where is that aircraft carrier", "I want MY feature in it NOW", "PS1 had 10 continents, PS2 only 3, I can't understand this/don't know anything about how much more polygons/work go into a modern cutting edge FPS compared to a FPS of 2003 with rather poor graphics"-statements... get a life, lads.
Yes, the game definitely could have used a few months of extra time (let's say updates 01 and 02 should have been in at release) but just for bug fixes/optimization/general stuff, it's pretty decent already. SOE couldn't wait forever before opening up the microtransactions, besides the Alpha Squad deal it didn't make them money in beta. No other developer can make things go perfect in a few days, let alone months. Not even Blizzard. This isn't a traditional MMO tech-wise either, it's new tech and with such detail and such big crowds on the screen it has to be much harder. Is it earning enough money to keep full development going? I am having my doubts. I don't think PS2 is that successful, population levels are dropping and a poor tutorial/shitty "veteran" reactions dissing the game completely on forums like these are chasing new folks away.
Be happy with what you get (for free!) as PS2 is already a lot more enticing than other multiplayer shooters out there imo.

as i said you did disregard it . the mmo isn't just about us the vets who have played ps1 and understand it . it is the for the new players too . so people should stop being egocentric .
If we get people in game now and they stick then we can thrown in all the good and complex things which are a good thing you are right but everything has a right time to come in
Have you ever considered that new people might be joining Planetside 2 because of the potential complexity it offers? My outfit has several brand new players in it that specifically came to PS2 because it supposedly offered more then "shoot people in the face." Can you imagine the disappointment when the game turns out to be nothing more then an upscaled Sci-Fi BF3? That is why people don't stick around. Big battles draw them in. Depth of gameplay keeps them in. One of those two is missing.
As for learning curve: Ofcourse you cannot expect a new player to fully understand the game in the first few hours. But that's what tutorials are for. PS1 had a tutorial. It also had a decent sized manual which explained all the basics. By the time you read through the manual during installation and followed the tutorial you knew how the game worked and how its basic systems interacted. The rest you learned by doing. I mean: How hard can it be to pop up a somewhat decent PDF manual upon first launch?
Oh, and if you read the road map carefully, you'll see continent locks in March (which is just silly without sanctuaries and 3 continents) and Hossin in April (Searhus has apparently vanished). So we're not getting anything resembling meta game in this pass. We're expected to wait another 4 months.
PS1 didnt fail because of a steep learning curve. It failed (as you mentioned) because of horrible advertising, but also because of two equally horrible expansions. After that they partly removed the meta game and game features (removed NTU drain, removed global lattice for broadcast warpgates, cut up the planet, removed weather systems, reduced HART timers, added facility warnings and continent populations), supposedly to make the game easier to get into, and then they added BR25 and BR40 which pretty much removed any specialisation that existed. On top of that you needed a super computer to run it and pay 13 Euro's a month which, especially in the first few years, was unheard of for a shooter. All of that killed Planetside, and not a steep learning curve.
Heck, if learning curves would have been an issue then EVE online should have been dead by now.

Some good changes, some changes I don't care about, and some bad ones. Many of those changes are mostly bandaids that wont drastically make the game better, but just fix an issue. So we are stuck playing BF-mmo atleast for the next 6 months.
Dynamic XP isn't really dynamic, feels very half-assed...wish it was as elaborate XP system as PS1. Most people are gonna be worth 100XP or less so we get even less XP than we do now. It's gonna take even longer to unlock anything. Should go well above 300XP for someone who has been libing the shit out of +50 guys.
Only 1 buggy, awwww...I want mah enforcer :(
@the complexity convo
Complex metagame with multitude of mechanics = made PS1 fun, takes you much longer to get bored than just shooting people in the face 24/7 at crown. You actually feel the tactical/strategic aspect of the game.
PS2 might evolve for the better, who knows but first 6 months it's not gonna be drastically better.

Thats their 6 month plan?
Holy shit. The game is boring as fuck already.

Took me an hour to study all the plans:
70% very good/good
20% ok/no priority
10% bad
Generally, this game is going in the right direction, except for the uninspiring weapon types (heavy pistols, pump action shotguns, etc.) they are planning to add.
All the defensive implementations are a welcome addition in my book. I love a good siege (being on either side is usually a whole lotta fun compared to roaming around looking for skirmishes).
Only wish there were some news for infiltrators.. I miss ps1 style infiltration. This sniper-fetish they've got going is terrible, and I'll probably just shelve my inf for now unless they add something to make it worthwhile.

I can't really look at the thing right now because 403 but from the bit Bear posted (Thanks Bear!) I just want to get one thing off my chest right quick about daily achievements.
Dear SOE,
Fuck you. Fuck you in your fucking face. Why the fucking shit are you adding this stupid bullshit to the god damn game? Fuck your daily achievements and their stupid fucking medals (or whatever they end up giving you) and the whole piece of shit daily achievement system. That's not a real reason to play this game, It's artificial as fuck and adds little to nothing of value. As soon as I get the chance I'm going to downvote the absolute piss out of this just to see what happens because fuck that stupid silly shit.
Make the game more enjoyable to play, add depth for fucks sake. Don't dick us around with stupid fucking mechanics and systems like daily mother fucking achievements. Daily achievements, why don't you just come to my house and take a shit on my computer, saw open my brain and then stick your dick into that small soft spot where I keep my good memories of what Planetside used to be like?
What the fucking fuck.
Love,

To be fair I found the learning curve of PS1 at least fun/attention holding, and I didn't find it THAT steep.
I agree with your sentiments, this isn't a case of PS1 vets being stuck in the past, it's a case of people immediately comparing the glaring failings of PS2 with it's namesake.
Ps1 was far from perfect, but people still remember it because at it's heart it was a good FUN game.
In PS1 even dying a lot was kinda enjoyable when it was part of a good push to an enemy base, a gamble for their generator, when every death was tying up the enemy and helping our team overrun an enemy, like tower fights.
This is compared to PS2 where dying is just more often then not frustrating and boring. Nothing is achieved, the unstoppable zerg is not slowed, the indefensible bases are no more defended.
I'm not gonna spiel about all the problems, they have been covered in great detail by many before me (I'm lurker here, hi) but SOE definitely could do much much more. If anything else the 'meta-game' needs some serious attention ASAP such as hex-to-lattice or something, capture mechanics, base layouts, etc.
Just getting the game to a suitably playable state (that is both sides in a fight are getting to play and participate rather than one side sitting in a boring spawn camp and the other being XP fodder) should be the first and only priority right now, then every other concern can be dealt with at relative leisure.

I wasn't expecting this when I was waiting for the 6 months plan. I can't say I like it.
I was expecting bolder brush strocks, a prosaic expansion on how some of the larger elements in the game that are missing, or under develloped, will be implemented and how they will interconnect to form a whole.
I think it totally obtuse, having different discussions on seperate elements of the game, expecting they can ever be brought together to form a greater whole. The role of Outfit is tied into base dynamic is tied into resource is tied into metagame is tied into the a players manifest purpose. To have a plan, you have to talk about those things together, the threads of discussion need to be about how to make them fit so they complement the whole game. They are not independant features but have a synergy.
I had 2 questions I was hoping would be answered with the roadmap:
1) Why should I join an Outfit ?
2) What can I do when I no longer have to grind certs ?
But instead of getting answers or directions I could get behind, I've been given a couple more forum threads to participate in where the community talk about the same stuff we've already been talking about for 6 months. I'm done talking.

Potential being the key word there. So far PS2 has been slow to capitalize and/or fulfill that potential and it's frustrating as fuck to see.
As for the cont locks/metagame, yeah. I'm with ya there. Not happy.

If PS1 is really that good then why aren't the complainers playing it?:)
We did, for 10+ years.
Then they said they were updating it, then we got Planetside 2, And this is where we are. Forward is the only direction.

TBH I'm not keen on a Flamethrower, particularly if the plume causes as much a drop in framerate as smoke flares sometimes do.
Instead I'm more interested in a Thumper-variant that can fire Incendiary charges at troops, Auraxium charges to damage armor on vehicles, and EMP charges to cripple shields. That way you could have a MAX outfitted with one Thumper and AV weapon to attack vehicles, or a Thumper and an AI weapon to suppress infantry...
You could then unlock grenade types with cert points, but restrict players from using more than one in their loadout (i.e. the grenade type would act as a mod), so they'd need multiple MAXes to affect infantry and armor at the same time.
