Update: Newer video with better scenes and transitions
Planetside 2 Main Theme "debut" (Ultimate Empire Showdown) v2 - YouTube

I don't know about the rest of you, but UES is probably the first time that I've heard the PS2 theme with live instruments (the ones on YouTube are all synth)

I decided to record it and match/edit appropriate Empire videos for each empire theme

Just some basic, novice editing. Enjoy!

Although I think they've really neutered the background guitar for the NC at 0:53, compared to this

Yeah, where did this track go anyway? I really enjoyed it.

The "neutered" background guitar is appropriate for anyone who liked the PS1 NC theme. It was more violin-heavy with no guitar at all as I recall.

I really detest the new NC themes with the guitar.
The PS 1 these were fantastic its shame they killed it the miserable twangy country western junk.

I always played with the music on in PS 1 amd lobved but now I play with no music.

Convert to the TR side! We have the movie orchestra!

Thanks for posting that . I don't think I've heard it like that before, really good stuff. I loved the music from PS1 but like most people I turn it all off in game to be less distracting. I also love the PS2 music especialy since I don't ever have to hear that southern wiskey tango NC crap .

Electric violins with a soft touch of epic vocals > electric guitar / banjo. :p PS1 music was excellent for the mood and setting IMO.

^ Wouldn't have minded something closer to that either. >.>

(with vocals)

I mean, it's not like us NC get F-Zero music with epic electric guitars and keyboard instead... >.>

If it was an electric violin (like the character selection theme) I wouldn't mind

This however, just makes it sound awkward. It's just so flat, so unenthusiastic. The violin can stay, but they should just increase the volume of that guitar in the background (before the other one takes over at 1:10)

You know, I was NC in PS1 and even put its theme as my ringtone. I can honestly say that I really like both of those new versions. More guitar gives it almost a halo like feel where as the one with less just screams firefly.

They seem to have trouble fitting in the soundtrack in the game. Luperza often puts the PS2 OST as her background music during her streams (at least since the last time I've watched). There's a LOT of music yet to be put in, NC in particular

Thanks for posting this - I'm not sure why they are holding out on us with all this great music.

*I chose the TR for the theme*

I hated the crappy NC theme song, though NC was my first faction.

I just got tired of hearing it, and honestly the drums sounded stupid.

They should really work to make it sound more "epic", so to speak.

Used to hate the NC theme as well but I got used to it. The rest of the soundtrack sounds great, especially their travel tracks, but the main theme just feels so incomplete.
But what you hear here is a far more epic version of the theme than what you hear when you create a character, especially @ 1:10

No problem.
I tried asking Rodney when are they going to put the rest of the tracks in the game (or release a soundtrack), but no answers. Maybe you could try :D

So.... pretty much everything we hear in-game is Broadbent's work? And in the leaked pre-prod soundtrack we heard last year? Which is fine; it kicks ass.... but what happened to Don Ferrone's stuff...? We know Sony hired him; we know he recorded orchestral versions of it; we know he thanked us for getting him on board and hoped we liked it. Have they left it COMPLETELY out until some unspecified date?

I are confuse.

I'm really confused too. I don't really understand why we don't hear Ferrone's stuff too in-game. I find his work really awesome too!

I'm flabbergasted because I thought most of it *was* Don's. Apparently none of it is.

I just don't get it.

It's been known for a while that most of the soundtrack is Broadbent's work.

The only tracks that made it in that were Don's seem to be the character selection ones.

It's such a shame. Don's Vanu Strut/Hades Long Tunnel are amazing pieces and deserve to be in the game. Remember how excited he was to work on Planetside again?

Man.

/jaw drop

I must have missed all that, Sturm. When did this 'become known'?

You mean there's a whole Ferrone soundtrack sitting somewhere out there in limbo? Next to the Alpha base designs and the lost Ark...?

I believe that Don was involved in it all just not as directly as in PS1.

/crestfallen

I've been taking it for granted that not all the music had been implemented yet -- I've never heard any of the travel music, for instance -- and that it was Don's work. What we had in Ye Olden Days was ambient, immersive, atmospheric. What we get is little fits and snatches that aren't by the maestro we all hemmed and hawed and lobbied for and celebrated when he finally got his foot in the door.

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but this is all news to me. And it saddens me for some reason.
