These are very obviously WIP pictures of the Interlink Facility in Planetside 2. I found them in the game files. Want proof? Fire up ps2ls and look for Common_Structures_FacilityInterlink_Proxy_Base and Common_Structures_FacilityInterlink_Proxy_Building

Some stats: They are larger than the other 3 facilities, and they have a ridiculous amount of playable space. I would say that the bunker-ish building is about the same size of a counterstrike level, and the dish is much larger. It's Fucking Huge (tm)


Go SOE Go! I want to see how this develops.

I exported the model and put it into Unity. The red platforms are what I added. I can't promise you wont fall through the tech plant.

As for the facility, it looks... interesting.

No, Shpookdefied used blender to look around at the exported model. These pictures aren't from SOE, they are exported from the game client

It's impossible to pass judgement on that.

If there's one thing I hope it's that the DEVS playtest with with real players who will employ some critical judgement and not simply go 'wow'.

They should not just playtest this through they should give it a thorough BETA test.

You know what this could be used for? I mean putting bases in Unity, or otherwise exporting them to be run through? Planning out strategies. If you could, say, set up these Unity imports to allow multiple players.

And here I was getting ready to be all sorts of disappointed! Looking interesting at least, my hope has not been crushed as I so feared. What seems to be a very large inf centric base seems to prove that SOE are at least trying to listen. Looking forward to a more complete picture in the future.

You know, I would like the see to bases back-added to continents. No one has really mentioned that. Some day, when we have continent flow and the whole four corners balance is much of an issue, why not blow up a location on Indar and add an interlink?

I'm sure they'll mix in the new bases they create on the old conts as well. It will sure mix things up a bit cause it's getting kinda stale for me on Indar. That's probably happening for most ppl since there seems to be nothing in the game really atm to make ppl go to the other conts right now.

This part of the structure (to me) looks like it would be mostly underground with an enterance and exit door on top. It's style and straight edeges on the outside are in stark contrast to anything above ground so far.

Or it's juest really early in development...or left behind that way.

SOE artists use Maja / Max and Zbrush. just as the majority of the industry.

Dont ask me why tho. After dealing with Maja, max and blender, its save to say that blender is in every way superior. And besides being superior, you can just add new stuff to it as it is open source. ZBrush on the other hand is brilliant for sculping. Blender tries to emulate, but just isnt as good there.


Anyway, interlink:

Folks, WIP doesnt just mean "work in progress", it also means "the final product may be something completly different that doesnt even resemble the current status".

But dear god i hope it is underground, and i hope it is big. Let it be something like a PS1 base again, just with less tunnels and more rooms. But still with the straight forward linear gameplay PS1 bases provided.

Oh, they left the actual assets in? That must've been a pretty big slip up. I thought you meant screenshots. :lol:

Yeah. I've dinked around with Maya, and I just don't see why it'd be better than Blender at modeling. It's great for animation, but doing hardsurface/organic modeling in it is just clunky and slow. Blender has an extremely fast workflow. It's as good as $4k programs like MAX/Maya if you know how to use it. Sure, it doesn't have as many tools, but it's getting up there. All of the keyboard shortcuts just make it so much easier and efficient to use.

I haven't used ZBrush, but I have used Sculptris. Blender's sculpting tool definitely isn't amazing, so I use Sculptris to do organic modeling and import it into Blender.

I'd sure hope that if I got a job in the 3D modeling business, they'd let me choose the program to work with.

It could definitely end up much different than this. Clegg showed me some of the early bio lab concepts when I was at SOE and they looked NOTHING like the final product.

This is a good question.. I wonder if they will "intermix' Interlink facilities..

They really should. Put it in over time, no rush. But whenever the put out new facilities, just go back periodically and put them on old conts. That way they never feel old.

It looks weird lol, good find though!

Besides having a large radar dish I expect it will be overhauled completely from this.

i srsly hope they use the capture the flag mechanic from PS1 to capture the base. THAT WOULD BE SOOOPER AWSUM :D

and hopefully it is infantry only with lots of underground stuffs, cant wait!

Ok since we now have 4 types of bases Bio,amp, Tech and interlink, I hope each continent will have 4 of each one. One of each o each empires sphere of control.

We were talking about this last night. I think it would be great if an Interlink Facility gave you a repair over time buff at bases. Nothing drastic but something that would slowly repair turrets, base gens or even vehicles inside the perimeter.
