View Full Version : How many people call the Sunderer an "AMS" still?

I know I do. As at most distances you really can't tell if it has the capability or not. But that never matters, shoot it anyway!

I Still really wish they would have added a unique vehicle platform for this ability. The Sunderer has kind of turned into a platform that can do, well, anything.

They're always AMSes. I don't think I've ever seen a bang bus that couldn't deploy.
I agree though, it would have been nice if the AMS removed the weapon slots and reduced the carrying capacity to something around zero.

I would have enjoyed an entirely different platform.

Anyway, yeah, there is zero reason not to call them AMS's, 99% of them have it equipped. It just gets awkward when we have new to Plantside people.

"Whats an AMS?" :groovy:

It depends on if I have an AMS equipped. It's rare but sometimes a shield runner is needed for those pesky gen runs so I ask if I need an AMS sundy or a boom boom if we're going for bases with shields like stations and plants.

What makes me more curious is why AMS is called AMS... Was there ever MS?

On the topic though, I think my outfit uses Sunderer for AMS. What we do however is we divide them into Sunderer and "Sunderer, but not AMS".

Was there ever MS?"Advanced" in this case doesn't mean "technologically better" it means "to move forward" - as in an advanced line or advancing army. The Advanced Mobile Station is the front line mobile station, a spawn point that moves with the army.

I mean, Gate Crasher is very occasionally useful at a Tech Plant, but otherwise I'd rather have an SAMS every time.

The word "advanced" itself doesn't have the proper tense pattern for that. But, well, who knows...

The AMS can be such a battle winner if deployed correctly that I wouldn't consider certing anything else in it's place.

And I always assume that an enemy Sunderer is an AMS, and is therefore the top priority target for my Falcons.

But does that make you, over your chat, call it "AMS"?

Many things, infact proxy radar and smoke screen...

It's especially valid now with the ability to put 2 rangers onto your AMS, turning it into a mobile defensive position...

Ranger (2)
Proxy Radar
Ammo Dispenser

..or turning it into a full-fledged combat vehicle

Ranger
Bulldog
Smoke Screen
Blockade Armor

"Sunderer" or "Sundy" if I'm pushed for time; never AMS.

"Sundy NE Tawrich" or whatever.

I call a ***** a *****, and a sunderer a "sundy" or "sundie".
It's not an AMS, an AMS is an AMS.

However if one is obviously deployed as an AMS, it's fine to call them that.

A lot of nubs use unupgraded sundys for transport, or can't deploy them due to mass deployment in area.

How the hell can ***** be censored?!
I know in rarity it can be used as a derogatory term for black men, but what if someone starts up a gardening thread in gen disc.?

Seriously, what all the arguing about? It's technically called a S-AMS... IMO, the S- should be hacked off, meaning the S should be a S and the AMS should be an AMS! ;)

I think the S-AMS is just there to differentiate between the then popular G(alaxy)-AMS, since removed from the game.

Yeah I would kind of prefer if AMS was it's own vehicle too. The Sunderer is like 5 vehicles in one right now, and apparently they want to add even more **** to it according to Roadmap.

I also facepalm that they didn't bring back the invisibility field. Then when people get killed spawning at the AMS they decide it's a problem so there must be spawn invulnerability. Maybe people would not have gotten spawn camped so hard if they were harder to find SOE? Nah easier to just make the thing a minifortress with invincible defenders lol.

Deliberately use AMS opposed to Sundy-AMS or S-AMS, as I still would like to see them as separate vehicles.

I personally like the all-in-one-ness of it. I'd like the invisibility field as certable in the same tree as the ammo-restoking/repair.

I like that the AMS can be deployed and be armed, but I wish there was maybe a cert to add 2 more guns in the same tree as the AMS so it could be more bang-bussy.

Normally I use AMS/Sundy interchangeably and BangBus if we are loading it up with a squad to go you know Bang stuff.

*oh and I used to play PS1 with a guy that called AMS's "MPB's" sometimes terms die hard.

Agreed, but only if it was kinda on the weak side in armor if they get the cloak bubbles/shields. Could even be a cert option. Either leave it as a cloaking bubble that can only be used for a limited time and each upgrade make that deploy timer longer (up to around 20 minutes and can only take 1-2 rockets if it is even a solid thing for enemy fire) or turn it into a shield that can be seen easier and have its upgrade to take more hits (say up to 5 tanks worth of HP). Once the bubble is gone the AMS has the same armor as an ESF (none). Self debating on to have the bubble repairable or put it on a cool down if lost.

I think it's better to call them AMS for the sake of the new players. A squad leader might say, "We need a sundy near point A!" and Joe Noob replies, "OK I'm on it!". And the he pulls up his non S-AMS Sunderer to point A.

That confusion will always be avoided by calling them by AMS.

That would be the fault of the SQ and not the newb. I never call for a sundy without saying AMS unless it's just for transport. Even for enemy vehicles I try to look for that AMS tit on parked sundies before calling forces to fuck it up as it could be a decoy. I need my men at the gates and gens if there's a shield buster or if the fight is getting so hairy that the enemy has transports at a flank.

Orders need to be clear or they wont do any good. Also a "noob" wont bother to pull a sundy, only the "newb". Noobs are asshats that get you killed, newbs are the guys trying to learn a game.

I would prefer them to be separate vehicles as well, but I don't think an invisibility bubble would really help that much. If an AMS is in use there are always going to be troops streaming out of it (and thus, the bubble) as such, they would remain highly visible. It would just take another couple seconds to pinpoint their exact location.
Now, forward (or defensive) AMS that are deployed but not currently in use...

Advanced Mobile Spawn.
Or
Advance Mobile Station?

It was one of those 2 im pretty sure it was the first.

A sundy is a totally differnt vech but because SOE were too lazy to create another vech specifically for an AMS were stuck with this hybrid POS.

I do.

It's not just because I am used to it, it's simply sensibly to do it. Saying bring a Sundy it open to misinterpretation while 'bring a sundy AMS' contains a superfluous and unnecessary word.

I call it suisse army knife, because of its versatility. And because mine is red and army-knife shaped. And i'm fairly certain it also has a button for a cheese grater somewhere that i just haven't found yet.

Other than that, "sundy" or "ams".
