Newegg was offering a free Crucial 8gb DDR3 1600 Cas9 module with an Asus Z77 motherboard so they suckered me into doing my upgrade 6mos. earlier than I had really planned. Pretty sure this is the route I'm going, just thought I'd put it up in case I've made a big oversight.
Gone to a 3570K, 16gb of RAM (had to get a second matching stick!)
Asus P8Z77V-LK
The Seasonic 660w Platinum PSU
2tb Seagate Barracuda HDD (I have a cache drive, and I like only dealing with one volume for Steam and that)
Putting it all in a Fractal Design R4 - The plan is to try and keep it as quiet as possible. OC is mostly an afterthrought.
I might grab that new Swiftech AIW cooler to that end, though.
My GTX570 carries over along with all the peripheral stuff.
(anyone want an i5 750 system [8gb ram..I can throw in an old GTX275], nice Lian Li case? It's going cheap! Just add an HD)
Thats a decent upgrade. I hope you plan on overclocking that sucker ;).
Any plans for the GPU?

Not until some kind of GTX770 sort of thing comes out. No single-generation upgrades!!!

Lol, Newegg did the same to me twice now. I got my GTX 680 through the same kind of subscriber discount, and they did it again just when I was thinking of swapping to faster ram. They know how to irk the money out of their customers.

Well, the joke is kind of on them, because I bought the CPU and HD and case from Amazon. (Free shipping on all of it, including the case 0_o I swear Amazon is part charity)

Hey, both Amazon and Newegg make money on 99.9% of the items they sell. Don't be fooled, they wouldn't do this consistently if it wasn't profitable.

Alrighty, got Win8 installed (I gotta say it's got a quick freaking setup). Really quick boot too, even though I don't have my cache drive setup yet (and may not for a while...the Dataplex software isn't win8 compatible yet, I think the Intel generic solution should work, though)
I'm running on my old 4x2gb memory for now because I found someone to buy my free memory so I could upgrade to the Crucial low voltage stuff I've been enthusiastic about recommending :) That should be here Monday.
So far so good. Beautifully silent so far too!

OK, so neato: SSD caching though Intel smart response done!
Some important advice: You can only do this with the intel controller is in RAID mode. Ahci does not work.
If you attempt to switch modes after installing windows...it can just break everything. I'm not sure why. I had to start from scratch and install windows again.

Give me a number man, wouldn't be the first time I bought an old processor off you.. :D
PS - Budget is tight though, and it's an 1156 board... so it'd have to be pretty cheap!

So, it's an Asus P7P55D Pro, i5 750. 8gb in 4 sticks Corsair 1600, I ran it at 1333.
PNY I think GTX 275
750W antec PSU
The Lian Li mid tower...might be the most valuable part.
Nothing's been overclocked
The whole thing for...$300? I'd have to see what shipping would be. Might include it in that price.

I'd have to pass. It's not that it's a bad deal, just not as good as it'd need to be.
My brother, KnightWyvern, just got a new job (working with me) and will probably be upgrading his rig significantly in the coming months, so I might just wait for what comes off his rig. He might upgrade his i5 2500k, so we'll see.
Hang onto it though if you don't pick up any other buyers. I'm currently sinking everything I've got into restoring a house so I should have spending money again later this spring.
$300 for that is a great price with all the being included on top of shipping IMO. Just having to put in a $50-$70 HDD and you are good to go just about.
