View Full Version : Kill Attribution

I'd like to discuss an issue that irritates me somewhat, and that is kill attribution. That is to say, who gets credit for kills.

So for example, say I'm in a mosquito and I'm dogfighting with a liberator, and after a long 3 minute back and forth battle I finally get him down to a sliver of health, switch to my rocket pods, unleash a volley of hell on the beast, and it is slain. But the three people manning that liberator? They bailed out just in time... and all fell to their deaths. Suicides. Yay, all that time spent and skill involved, and I'm rewarded with a 100xp lib kill.

Or how about this: I park a sunderer and deploy it. Some idiot teammate lands on my sunderer's roof and is killed because sunderers do that now. I am credited with a TK. An enemy blows up my sunderer, and the resulting explosion takes out 3 teammates. I am credited with three TKs. Why shouldn't that guy that blew up my sunderer get those kills instead of me?

And of course, the infamous "deconstructing vehicles at the last second" problem. I drop all of my rockets into the back of a sunderer, go back for more ammo, come back through enemy fire to launch 5 more rockets into the back of the sunderer, and as the last rocket is streaking to kill it, it is deconstructed and I get nothing, yay!

Any idea when these issues will be addressed? Any other issues like this you guys can think of?

Nothing can be done about your points 1 and 3, but the friendly vehicle roof kill thing is particularly stupid; this needs to be sorted. As does the TKs you get when your Sunderer explodes. At the very least, you shouldn't get the TKs.

Number 1 is even worse when you remember there's actually ejection seat certs for air vehicles (that no one uses because they can just jump out whenever).

I'd love for them to just stop bailouts unless you're either landed, or have that cert. Bonus points: no unintentional bailouts from hitting the wrong key. :p Then people who want to cert their ESF up for bailouts (bailing for bombing runs, for example) can do so.

Good idea Shade. I hate it when I hit the wrong key!

I like that idea, but they'd probably have to reduce the cert cost of the ejection seat, seeing as it costs like 500. :(

And I think they could easily fix problems #1 and #3. Battlefield 3 just tagged the people in the vehicle as "last damaged by player X", so when they fell to their death, the person to most recently damage them was rewarded for the kill. I wouldn't be opposed to this working for all suicides. If you most recently damaged yourself, then fine, but if an enemy shot you and you jump off the side of a bio lab to spite them, that ain't no suicide IMO.
And as for #3, I read a good suggestion on some forum somewhere saying that if a vehicle had taken damage in the last X amount of seconds, it would have a cooldown on being deconstructed. Boom. Problem solved.

I have my enter/exit key right besides the "3rd person view" key. So yeah, absolutely supporting shades idea, but not only because of my inability to remember re-setting my keybinds.

So: Bailout only if you have landed or have the ejection cert. OR leave it as it is but make the kills actually count. As Ruzy suggested, it should be easily possible to make a working system.

Yeah, I went and looked it up after I posted and I was like  Somewhere around 100-200 would be much better.
