I don't see a Lancer... I see a Hades with part of the top chopped off. Still the exact same reload cartridge as every other gun too.
Just take the sight and rail off of it, give it a large battery pack in the back instead of the classic pop out cell, and call it good.
Wish every gun didn't have to have 'cool modern rails' and laser sights. But other than all that, I'm glad they're putting these guns back in the game!

It's the test area they use nothing fancy. I've seen it various inclines to test vehicles on among other things.

I like the Striker design. Looks oppressively militaristic, something you point at civilians. But, by God, these weapons would break the game if they were just ports. Phoenix squads pls no. pls.

slightly off topic anyone else irritated by one shot kill weapons?
sniper rifles to some degree but av weapons more than anything...some cheap bastard spamming av rockets at infantry has had me cursing on ts a few times..ttk is a touch to low generally

Yeah, I'd generally agree with that. I'd prefer the default rocket launchers to be more effective vs vehicles and air than they are now (faster projectiles and less drop would be my preferred remedy) but do less damage to infantry in return.
I don't have a big problem with the TTK most of the time, but because it's generally so fast it does mean that weapons which should kill you faster under certain circumstances (shotguns & SMGs up close, for example) kill you almost instantly, which feels very frustrating.
So yeah, overall I'd support a slight increase to TTK across the board, just to ensure that you have some chance to react, even when you're in a bad position.

AV weapons doing reduced damage to infantry would make no sense, but I do feel that way too many AV weapons have splash damage when they don't really need it.

Not sure if you mean lore 'sense' or game-design 'sense'. I think it makes good game-design sense (and I don't really care about the lore, that can be hand-waved away with references to future-tech if need be...)
As it stands the trade-off for the basic RLs is that they're highly effective AI weapons that are relatively weak vs vehicles. This seems like a strange concept to me - I'd rather see basic RLs as a specialist AV weapon with a secondary AI/AA role, rather than a straight AI/AV split. And the reason they're so effective AI is that they're a one-hit-kill on a direct hit - the splash isn't a problem IMO.
Seems to me that changing the default RLs would mean Heavies don't have to lunge straight for lock-on weapons to be effective vs vehicles (which means less annoying lock-ons, so win) and that other infantry becomes slightly more competitive versus Heavies in infantry battles - also a bonus.
The only real downside I see is that it might make things slightly tougher for vehicles overall, but that's something that could be balanced for separately later on (maybe buff ground vehicle armour vs rockets slightly, making tanks or air the preferred way of dealing with them, and buff aircraft defences vs lock-ons slightly, as discussed elsewhere recently).

I meant more of in a logical sense. In the sense that if a squishy, fleshy human gets hit by something meant to pierce thick armour on tanks (like an AP tank shell or a rocket), it's not going to be pretty.
Edit: I mean, overall, i'd be more willing to blame unnecessary splash on AV weapons and the ability to resupply rockets/underslung grenades from ammo packs for the spam than AV weapons being too good against infantry on a direct hit, really.

It's the nanites. Turns out you're not built of flesh at all, but a semi-ablative swarm of nano-machines that just look like a human on the macro-scale (and mimics the shape and mental-pattern of a long-dead soldier).
When a rocket hits you, the nanites are able to reduce the explosive force with an energy-damping field by just enough to let the swarm as a whole survive. Multiple small impacts though (such as bullets) are harder for them to deal with - making those more effective overall. ;)
Edit: not convinced on splash-vs-damage as the problem. Seems reasonable for a near-miss to hurt, IMO the problem is that if you get hit dead-on you die instantly - which makes rockets viable AI. If the damage was 75% of your total health instead of 100% then you'd tend to die while reloading (up close) or the target would have a chance to fall back and heal (at range). Not saying that would stop people using them for AI at all, it would just make them a less desirable choice and make Heavy a somewhat weaker AI class - but if you compensate by making them stronger AV/AA then everything evens out.

I don't play VS, but the VS Weapon better be a Lancer in some shape or form (ideally both! Though it currently doesn't look like one).
The firing sound was just awesome, iconic and undoubtedly unique to Planetside.

I guess they are happy and excited to finally bring back in Planetside some iconic weapons from Planetside.
Why do I think they are the Lancer/Phoenix/Striker ?
They look like PS2 AV weapons, they are empire specific but ABOVE ALL, the screenshots show... PS1 ammo counts !
When a fan is down to ammo counts/empire combinations to recognize iconic weapons, it's hard to tell what devs are trying to do.
Shared feelings:
LANCER!?!?!?
Except I think it looks kinda dumb.... please don't be the lancer.... yet.... be the lancer.
Ugh. That is not the Lancer. They can call it a Lancer, but that does make it so.
Past the nostalgia factor, here is a good concern:
PS2 tanks are not PS1 tanks just like PS2 map layout is nothing like PS1's. The whole weapon ecosystem and weapon certification system are different too.
But, by God, these weapons would break the game if they were just ports.
So... Nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia ? Future rebalancing moves to shift PS2 more towards PS1 style ? Simply 3 extra new weapons to collect for the sake of increasing the weapons catalog size ?
I guess I will know as I read future patch notes and people's opinions. In the end, PS1, PSU and forumside proved to be more addictive for me than PS2 ever was.

I find myself more interested in the VR training reveal lol.
Though I agree if these weapons are straight ports of the PS1 launchers it's going to make the Annihilator look balanced in comparison.

As I understand it the Penix is again going to be camera guided.
So, when I am sitting in my tank will I have any idea where I am being shot from so that I can take evasive action. . . e.g. the missile is tracked on the mini-map?
Or will it be a 'oh look I'm dead kind of thing'.
to many people QQ'd about phoenix on the roadmap it will probably be the only ESL that is nothing like the original i would hate for it to be a rocket launcher version of the AV turret. i didnt see an issue just do what needs to be done and make it so rockets cant be shot out of spawn room / teleporter rooms as you shouldn't be able to. i don't think any explosive type weapon ie even grenades should travel through shields, i mean no one should be able to instagib someone from complete safety shooting phoenix out in open isn't complete safety
n the roadmap i pondered how the phoenix would work camera guided , i figured it would track like a lock on ie, the pilot / tank operator would get a beeping and LOCK signal while im zeroed in on him all he has to do it outfly my, i don't know many pilots that use flares before LOCK is established i usually wait till just after lock ( but im not a good pilot) i figured if the damage was similar to annihilator also so it wouldn't be OP? i used annihilator for scouting and just having fun. if it has no semblence of beign liek PS1 i dont think id bother buying it annihilator aim-bot is alot more accurate

NC weapon looks like a shrike with a different sight screwed on the rail... exciting. Not. Because the crow/hawk are also just shrikes with different sights. *sigh* Oh hey, but let's look at the bright sight. It'll only cost 7 bucks. Errr wait...

At least the TR have a weapon that's worth using.
I'm pretty tired as a NC getting shafted with the aesthetic side of things, and the new phoenix just adds more of the same looking weaponry . It looks pretty much identical to the default shrike and apparently it's losing its camera guided missile ability.
Sigh.
