My First impressions.

Last night, I jumped on to find NC territory greatly diminished. I spawn main base and hopped into a reaver and just hit insert to get into the action. Since the wife was playing WoW behind me I threw on my headset... woah. Tactical speak almost in a language I couldn't understand as players were organizing and planning an offensive. Of course, I was also trying to relean to fly in Planetside, something I used to take much pride in. I gotta tweak the controls and sensitivity... So after stopping and just listening I start getting what they are saying, understanding that "D7 move to the gen and fix" meant and other such things. We ended up taking a few smaller outposts trying to move the battle lines then went after a Biodome.

Now, since I am still figuring things out I just play as Light Infantry, kinda addicted to the jet pack thing for getting around and not dying cause I jumped off something with a long drop. I really like that. I haven't spent any cert points, but I did pay for a month of premium and slapped a 7 day xp booster on. Hey, I gotta catch up ;)

Side note, when I last played the grphx glitched out on me, the ground would appear and disappear like a strobe light. So when I logged in this time I was getting a rapid white flashing screen. Solution? Reduced resolution by 5%. All good! Gonna tweak the graphics later tonight see if I can find a sweet spot of looks and versatility.

Overall I was very impressed, I've played a lot of BF3 (look me up MrVicchio there too ;) ) and one thing I've never enjoyed about FPS games is the lack of strategy and purpose, it's just spawn, kill spawn kill, map ends, wash, rinse, repeat. While one could argue that the tug of war in PS is no different, it's just the same thing but with a different coat of paint... here losing has a consequence, and winning has rewards. This sets PS2 above the competition.
Sure, it's not as pretty as BF3, maybe the enemies further away lose detail... I can live with that. The big picture is there, and the battles are just as intense.

My new goal is to start trying the other classes, figure out which one fits my personal play style and rock it. i will say I do have an issue with Sunderer's being mobile spawn points to the extent that they are. Makes base D very difficult. I haven't played enough to offer a good solution, but once I have one I'll let ya'll know.

I knew if I started PS2, I'd be hooked on the mass battles. Seeing tanks rumble by as large aircraft land to pick up troops or drop them off, explosions everywhere. It kinda feels like being in a movie. I know that might sound cheesy to some but that's how it feels to me. I like to mentally role-play in game. Sink into the experience and embrace it. I don't have the time I used too to play games, but when I play I give it my all.

Good feedback.

Totally agree with you on the strategy; so much more to PS2 than just shoot kill die respawn. I personally love looking at the map to decide which are the key outposts to attack/defend.

Interesting point you raise about the Sunderers; not seen this discussed much on the forum. Perhaps they are too readily available.

Just an observation about them, the utility of having a mobile spawn point IN an enemies base... that's just not right.

Nice feedback MrVicchio.

Thanks for the graphic fix tip. Must try that :)

nice feedback :D yeah, i played PS2 before BF3 on my new PC, and PS2. was unlike ANY FPS i have ever played. the persistence, the tactics (when you get into an outfit, you'll see ;D), and the amount of play-styles available.... it is unparalleled. sure, it has its problems, but it is hands down the best multiplayer FPS i have ever played.

playing BF3, i was frustrated with the lack of depth in teamwork (coming back from playing PS2, and being a veteran of BF2142). maybe i haven't played enough, but so far it hasn't been no where near as fun as PS2. and running it on high graphics, I CANNOT SEE ANYONE, i always get killed by someone i didn't see, or because he blended in with the terrain etc... the graphics were so good it was annoying. maybe i have to get used to it (and in PS2 you would think it would be an even bigger problem; but it isn't for me), but in PS2 it just isn't the case. once again, the amount of play-styles available; from being a fighter pilot, to overlooking a huge battle and sniping as an infiltrator; it is just.... a sight to behold.

i have put over 45 hours into the game so far, and i cant wait to play some more.

I stopped playing BF3 after PS2 arrived. I was ok BF3 player, I could see the enemies and usually was in the middle of the high scores table every round while maintaining 1+ K/D ratio.

PS2 is so much more fun for me. I played a lot BF2142 and it reminds me a bit of that though it is not the same :)

Nice to read the perspective of new players coming into the game and giving their views on it, enjoyed the read.

The points you made are exactly why PS2 is a game with no equal, and that people need to not compare it too much (maybe a little) to other games and just immerse themselves into what is truly an amazing immersive experience.

I think this will be the FIRST and the ONLY time that i will legitimately AGREE with a VS player... the FIRST and ONLY time!

I'm glad to see someone new likes the game. Don't get turned off by some of the negativity here. If it was bad, we would be gone. We bitch because we care. lol

Sorry friend, I just never could tolerate the Vanu. Sounds like a hipster club ;)

Terran Republic is clearly the faction of choice.
Truth be told though the NC would be respectable if not for... well...

"I THINK I BROKE IT!"
"CAN SOMEBODY FIX THIS?"

compared with
"Need an engineer over here!"
"I need repairs!"

So yeah, the fact that the NC voices sound like stupid thugs is a real turn off, and why I tell them that they are NOT space 'murrica, but are in fact Space Whiskey Rebellion. (and if you read the lore, that actually sounds about right)

TR is not THAT bad compared to their PS1 incarnation after all. Just want to make sure lil Timmy and Susie aren't out past their bedtimes... when the rebel scum is out causing trouble.

As for the Vanu... alien abomination bastards.

Ya. You can give some credit to the NC. I rolled 666th in PS1 and NC was fun, TR is better. VS is easily the scum of Auraxis. No one likes those barneys. lol

I did however have a blast night. Hopped in, first "insert to join a squad" I recognized the SQ leader as the "Take the empty bases" guy. So I hopped out of that mess, looked at the map, saw TR had some biodome all alone in the upper left of NC map, lots of flashes... so I swung on by. What a hoot that was, good fight, we moved south, took a few places, started to worry the resistance was gone, then BAM, a nasty fight in some canyon with Vanu having the terrain advantage and TR trying to flank us. Was good times.

Hey, I'm all for a good Whiskey Rebellion! Sippin' some Jack while playing my NC :D

And whenever I see VS I can only think of Venril Sathir, as a devotee of past SOE titles.

after playing a little bit more BF3, yeah same. it is a good game, but PS2 is undoubtedly better. i can see enemies now, because i turned off the motion blur ;D

and i get in the middle of the scoreboard as well. and i agree with the BF2142 part as well, and it was a fantastic game, and reminds me of PS2, but i don't think i could go back to it....
