Cool, but unfortunately completely unnecessary. I would love it if the game actually rewarded or demanded stuff like this, but in reality, those guys could have easily just redeployed or fought to their death and then spawned where they wanted to go.

Maybe but its always nice to have a cool option like this :)

Yea, but you're really just doing it for the flair currently. There are no valuable infantry units that need extraction after the battle or anything like that.

I agree that this game would be a lot more awesome if there were more instances for us to do this sort of thing. But the reason we did this was actually because we were ordered to do a quick tactical galaxy drop up north and redeploying back to the warpgate to load up a galaxy would take too long. It was much quicker for me to pick them up and then head to the drop destination

Now, this is how PS2 should be (designed to be) played - kudos!
Is it me or are we see more Gals around now. Their use seemed to have dropped off over the Dec / Jan period, at least on Briggs?

This is why we need a CTF mechanic.

What we need is a reason to use this kind of mechanic; to make deaths or respawning a more costly.

It certainly looks kinda semi-realistic cool but I've seen faster, fly-by extractions though. Just have everybody jump and hit "E" as the Gal flies over. Quite doable to pull off actually.
Besides that "redeploy to Warpgate" would probably have worked faster in this case.
