Now before anyone Jumps the gun and crys about adding more AA.
Think about it logically. These New turrets will be replacing certain Flak Turrets on towers and Bases.
What does this mean for Pilots? Less Flak covering the skys. I welcome these turrets as we already have a hard counter to A2A,G2A Missiles with flares.
You can have 100 Lock on's. And 1 flare counters them all. You cant do the same with flak.
Pilots should welcome these.

Pella, I wish every pilot was intelligent enough to figure that out instead of whining about missile spam.

This one looks really nice, and if they'll be replaced on the old turrets, then I'll love it.

lol I was just wondering would it fire all twenty missiles in one go too, cos if it only fires one then what's the point of the other 19 tubes? :D

Swarm missiles would be a sight to see. But I'm near sure that wont be the case as those projectiles would have to be tracked.

Pilots will be even more screwed, great. One flare we can only use every half minute.

they need clouds in this game, weather, wind, etc!
They look cool but the question is will they do the same damage as the turrets that we have now. Looks dont take out air, damage and hitting the target is what makes them deadly.

Missile turrets a nice idea in principle; hope they don't screw air v ground balance too much though; I'm feeling that this is not too far off being where it should be right now. Maybe shorter flare cooldown will be needed?

Or give us flares with "ammo" (nothing too ridiculous, just give us one flare per cert level in the "magazine"). If people want to spam lock ons, let us spam flares in return.
At least then I might be able to do some dogfighting without being chased 2km by someone who doesn't know what a nose gun is every 10 minutes.

What would be interesting is letting defending engineers decide which they want up - either via upgrades or replacements.

If there are two kinds of AA turret maybe that will finally allow the devs to start differentiating air targets a bit more in terms of what weapons are good against them.
It really annoys me that the exact same weapons are good against a Fighter as are good against a Liberator or Galaxy. The Larger aircraft are by far the biggest and least agile units in the game. Even though they have a higher end speed than something like a tank, they take much longer to turn around to get away from a deadly threat.
I really hope they use the opportunity of multiple AA turrets to give air units a serious distinction in what weapons are good against them. It's just silly that Fighter and Galaxy get lumped together for the purpose of what's a good weapon against them, since obviously anything that has a reasonable chance of hitting a fighter is practically impossible to miss a Galaxy with. That's like if MBTs and ATVs had the same armor just because they are both on the ground.

I hope that this new turret kinda work like "anti-air rocket pods" * instead of shooting lock on missiles. In other words, compared to the existing flak turret, this one would have a slower rate of fire but higher damage. I think this would make it better than flak against slow/hovering aircrafts.
*oh the irony!

Is there any word on when or how this turret is coming into the game? Or is this just a re-tweet of something we've known about since before beta?

Historically the automation of defences required radar.
Interlink facilities on PS1 provided radar.
We know interlink facilities are in the roadmap.
Hmmm.... I hope they are automated.
Yet significantly more effective when manned.

Very nice. What's the facility is the turret in? Looks like a techplant but the walls and textures seem...different.
Perhaps I'm just seeing things.
EDIT: Ah so those are the old Alpha walls eh? Guess I was seeing things.
Still nice turret.

Just like PS1 Wall Turrets. At least they put some pressure on you when attacking.
I don't know if its specific to EU Cobalt, but I find wall turrets are underused in PS2. Imagine if a facility's defenses were fully manned.
Of course they would require engineer support as they do tend to end up destroyed, occupied or not.

Aye, I'm guilty of it myself.
They also appear to add to the killcount for weapon medals, even when unoccupied. I don't know whether that's intentional, but it happened to me once.
But still, all stations operational and supported must be quite hard to crack.

Memory training by binding something specific to a certain image.
It's a common type of practice if you want to keep your brain fresh.
Associate something with an image and you'll remember it everytime.
