Actually . . . that's the thing.

TW *IS* growing up. But instead of growing up and leaving the forums, they're growing up and sticking around (most of them, because they're in college now). Nothing is discussed on TW that isn't discussed in a dorm room at 2:30 am after a beer or twelve.

TW got started up when most of its members were around 14-16 (although, like PSU, there were older posters as well, especially the more reasonable/intelligent ones).

I was [Ai-r]GreatDane right at the end. To think I payed for the last month of the server and we never really used it. Was nice to be on a team where the beer was almost more important then the match.

But seriously, Tribalwar was much like PSU once (in its infancy; remember when we still cared about things? Like OGL matches, and the short-lived OGL-TSN conspiracy?). Don't laugh at TW. In 5 years, I guarantee you that either PSU will be just like TW, or it will wish it was. Eventually, communities get to know each other well enough, and get used to a particular game so much, that the entire community becomes casual -- EVERYTHING posted is massively off-topic. In fact, this will probably start to really happen about 6 months after release, and it will just get more and more pronounced. Every topic relating to the game will have been gone over -- and over, and over, and over.

You can deny it if you want -- but that's the way it is. Muhahahahaha!

This is OT, but my favorite quote ever is one that isn't from a movie, it's not from anything famous, it's just something I heard at the Mall of America.

There was this enormous, probably 350lb black man walking around with some friends. His friends were going through that phase that 90% of af-am kids go through, the one where they feel the need to act out every WCOTC stereotype of young black men.

Anyways, the fat black man, who was the oldest and dressed the nicest, was standing by the escalator drinking a soda, and two of the teenagers next to him spotted a friend on the level below them. So one of them yells down to him "WUTUPWUTUPWUTUP NIGGAAAAAAA!"

The fat black man turned to the yelling kid, grabbed his shirt, and said -- VERY clearly, VERY distinctly, without a hint of an accent -- "Shush, mother fucker".

The way he said it -- perfectly enunciated, 'mother fucker' as 2 separate words -- has always stuck with me. This is so ironic and hilarious to me, god. Instead of one of the best tests of skill, intelligence, and strategy, Tech_Man here, would rather play a game where you ski on Jetpacks, and the first one to click, wins. No strategy, just whoever clicks first and most. Sad. This isn't a real challenge. You agreed to any game you could get a key for, and that was one. Way to wimp out. Just leave, you blew your own challenge and didn't even properly cover your ass while backing out. Sad.

Ok, from what I've heard, T2 is very little strategy. It's just jetpack around, and use the one overpowered disc gun. I know little about it, but what I do know is it isn't very much fun. I get the impression T1 was better, and T2 is a failed attempt to remake it.

PS is Chess+MoH+The Future.
T2 is Jetpacks+ Disc launcher gun

Both T1 and T2 took huge ammounts of Skill, and Strategy to Win matches in Competitive play.

You'll just have to trust me on this one Flameseeker, but there is a lot more to it then running around with a disk launcher.

One of the things about PS that worries me is that the Level of Compititon that was in Tribes will be absent from the game. Don't get me wrong, Tribes pubbing was a whole lot of fun (T2 pubbing was never fun), but nothing compared to the adreniline rush of a Tribes match.

Where Planetside will fail is that you will not see 2 outfits of equeal skill meet on the field of battle and slug it out for 30 min to take a base. What you will have one outfit that has planned to take a base show up with all it's forces, and take that base. The loose band of "Pub Players" that show up to defend it will be no match for even a moderatly skilled "Outfit".

It would be the same as if you were on a pub server in any other game and you were on a team made up of avrage joes, and the other team was all from the same Outfit. You'd call them a bunch of Team Stacking *******, and leave the server.

Well the most effective raids in PS will be done by those same Team Stacking *******, and there won't be a whole lot anyone will be able to do about it.

I really, really dowbt I will see the level of competiton I saw in Tribes 1, and 2 in any other game. Ever.
