A while ago I believe that I heard that the lack of doors in PS2 is explained by performance issues. Could any dev or otherwise informed person give a more detailed explanation on the kind of impact doors have on the engine and what it would take to get them in the game? Will doors ever have a hope of making an appearance in the future or will advanced door technology constraints prevent me from keeping filthy rebels and xeno lovers from walking in on me while I change classes?

Doors would create even more chaos in PS2 IMO. with fast TTK a door would only promote farming and mass clusterf*ck even more.

they were cool in PS1 but I don't think they have a place in PS2. They served as more of a prevention in PS1 for ghost hacks. In PS2 all they would do is slow down gameplay and create easier farming.

Just my opinion.

I believe they should act like in Blacklight. They are hacked closed, or open, no star trek.

I like this idea. Used sparingly.

some doors that can be opened via the controlling faction, shotgun, breach explosives. that would be cool. but as above not everywhere.

I support this.

It would be awesome If bases had one way, hackable only shield doors and walls.

Pretty much they would let the defenders shoot through but totally block enemys and their shots. (Think if they were but on the outside of the top of the walls! so defenders could shoot at tanks and stuff.)

They would have things/keypads would would repair a recon to hack them. say the amount of time was 1-2 minute to hack + whatever rank of hack shortens it till rank 5 which would be a 15 second hack.

Once hacked the shields will go down instantly till a engy repairs the "shield thingy" to fix the damage the virus caused.

id like it if people could not get through the wall shields either then LA's would have more purpose, the would have to bounce the walls and knock out the wall shield. then all hell can break loose:) it's a shield, if enemy vehicles cant get through then troops also should be stopped also.
some good ideas floating about though.

"Vader entrance" moments would be fantastic. I'd love a few more destructible things, in general... but I feel we'll hear it's all about performance.

The way i would see it is put them in the non light assault reachable entrances to buildings housing objectives (generators, controll points etc.) as well as side entrances to towers and the back entrance to Tech plants.

They would not be automated, instead requireing the owners of the facility to push a button. On the inside the button is on panel on the wall next to the door while on the outside on the door itself. They would automaticaly close after a few seconds and also give a warning beep so people dont get crushed in the doorway.

Infiltrators could hack the doors but the outside panel would take longer and only allow them to hack them open. They would have to hack the panel inside to make it sqitch sides. They would be destroyable but much more resiliant on the outside. Say regular doors placed in most places would require a block of C4 worth of damage while bulckheads protectign critical points like the back entrance to the tech plant would require a bit more than 2 blocks. On the inside they would be much more vunerable. Defenders would be able to repair them by aiming their repair tolls on the wall panels which would be impossible to destroy. Even if a door were destroyed an infiltrator would be able to hack the pannel allowing the attackers to repair a breached door and use it to their advantage.

In relation to causing chaos, I'm having a hard time seeing why the fast TTK and doors would be that much different from what is currently in PS2. There are already locations on bases that have doorways, just no doors with locks on them.

I wouldn't hold your collective breath hoping for Doors.

The reasons I think they didn't put the doors in

1. More moving things that the game needs to keep track of. We already have performance issues with rendering people, making the game keep track of more entities would probably cause more performance issues (I could also be talking out of my ass)

2. Suddenly hacksmax. I for one do not want to open a door and suddenly hacksmax.

3. NANITES

I would like doors as well ala BL:R, but I want other things more. Such as a better/existing meta-game.
