Tonights FNO with Luperza and Arclegger covered a bunch of things - here's some of the highlights.

VR Training Area Notes
Stationary Targets to shoot, MAXs, Infiltrators, Tanks all with the same stats as the game world.
No stats tracked or XP tracked.
Combined Shooting and Flying area, rock formations and bridges.
2KM by 2KM area.
No grief accumulated.
Cannot hurt other players.
Access to all weapons in game.
Cosmetics in the future.
All weapons, vehicle and infantry. Highest rank abilities are equipped.
There is an ATV Race Track
There will be a grid (similar to PS1)
Day Night Cycle in VR
NO enemy terminals/turrets.
ALL attachements for guns.

One thing that could be interesting later on would perhaps be to allow outfits to have simulated battles with each other to train their members.
Oh and VR won't replace the weapon trial system, in case anyone was wondering.

The VR training area looks cool. Honestly I'm kinda disappointed that you cannot try out the whole cert tree of items and you can only see the highest level but at least it is something.

You will also be able to crash your ESF, so no silly WG physics. This should make for more realistic flight training.

Level design with Clegg: Important notes about Hossin. (Besides Clegg being really, really excited about it:D)
More Stronghold like bases.
Canopy that protect you from Liberators.
Tunnels that go outside the bases.
There will be foggy areas.

VR training area looks like what many of us hoped for and much more. Everything PS1's VR was, but better.

Next week is going to be one VERY busy week for me. So many tests to do and videos I can now make without it hurting my gameplay.
I can never understand how people can put up with recording gameplay at all times. The FPS hit can be dealt with but it adds a good amount of input lag and that KILLS me. Im not just talking about being more crap than normal, Im talking about the entire game feeling off to "WTF is wrong with this?" levels. Anyone have a pointer to how I can fix this? Im already using a 2nd HDD that's 100% dedicated to just recording, but can't think of what else to do other than lowing quality to under what I hold a minimum.

I am totally psyched about Hossin coming up, keep up the good work (keep it as dark and murky as possible).
Yoda ( Papa Vanu ) lives on Dagobah...I mean Hossin; I want to see a Yoda mud hut hidden on the map as an Easter-egg! :D

It sound like they're doing what I suggested in the beta forums way back, ie include an outpost, a tower and a base in order to allow newer people to work out what to do and where to go.
This is much needed. A few former outcasters have recently given PS2 a 'go' and I don't think they're impressed. The main issues appear to be 1. Confusion, 2. In ability to see enemies and 3. Use of weapons. (NB these people were pretty good players and played a lot of years too)
Currently the new entrant hurdle is too high and the VR will help with all of these issues.
Lastly, I'd just like to point out that there is a fine distinction between this VR and a sanctuary.
Last point - I've been critical about the tunnels that we saw added a few weeks ago. But, in this video there was a hint that they are as they are because of restrictions in Forgelight.

I think I'm looking forward to testing out the various ability upgrades more than anything. How Racer 3 compares to what I already have on my Mosquito for example.

What recording software are you using?
I got FRAPS and record at 30FPS with full-size. The videos come out GREAT and you can't see a damned thing of what Im trying to say. But while recording it adds a few ms to everything I do, just enough to fuck with everything I know about how this mouse Iv used for a few years works. It also gives the world an almost fuzzy look, kinda like changing FPS to fast (locking FPS helps, but not under heavy loads like a PS2 fight, then it tanks hard).
Iv come to live with the fact that I just don't have the rig to record live gameplay. Even though I run PS2 under 80+% Ultra at 60-70 FPS in down time and around the mid/lower 30s in heavy fights, recording live just can't be done for me while keeping up to my seemingly impossible standards.
Im crap as is in competitive games thanks to shit aim and a mouse that likes to change settings. Adding any delay or fuzz would just make it worse.

VR training looks awesome. Even better than the original games which I didn't expect. Hossin sounds like it will be fun too. Though without continent locks i'm still worried I wont ever get to play there due to Indarside Crown farm sucking up all players. Hopefully Cont lock comes out with Hossin. check the roadmap for continent lock man... it is comming sooner than you think....

Is there going to be range markings in the VR area? I suppose in a pinch we could use waypoints.
For testing gun effectiveness, of course and proving who has the most haccurate weapons.

May be this is not the same as a tutorial, but still, some guidance to the new recruits is extremely necessary. In my opinion, a tutorial is MUCH more important than a weapon testing area. I cant tell how many friends of mine have given up on this game because of its steep learning curve. So, please make Tutorial one of the top priorities instead of adding new stuff to the already weapon-abundant game.

I read "training" as learning to do something, Like learning how to aim and shoot effectively with new weapons and scopes. Like learning to assault a tower as a team and shoot a target in a moving tank.
I see this area as a boon to not only newbies but old hands as well.
Nice to see a tutorial is in the pipe. THAT will really help the newbies.

Oooh, missed the rumbleseat the first time. Glad it's nice and visible! Want to make sure people see what I'm honking about when I roll up next to them.
Also kinda surprised that it's face backwards. Eliminates all those intimate "manhug" moments on 2 seater quads in other games like Arma. ;)
Guessing it replaces Turbo though? :(

Thanks for the VR update, looks awesome! For people confused about what the VR room actaully is go look at the PS1 VR room, I think some people are taking 'training room' to literal in the tutorial sense, Its a practicing room.
Also with how the photo was taken on the flash directly behind the VS character all I could think was...

Nice. The new map/deploy screen looks allready much better with just that one pic i saw. :J
And the VR looks like like a good groundwork for a proper new player introduction (Will it have a drill sergeant? There has to be one barking at new players!).
Two questions though (because these two things really annoy me in the map/deployment area):
- Will we be able to use keys to switch loadouts? Because i still saw these awful pull-down menues there...i want to run to a terminal, push "1" "2" "3" etc. and go, not fiddling with tiny pulldowns.
- Will we be able to set waypoints while being dead/in deployment? Often you notice a "better way" when being dead, or you want to mark the area you died in. Both is currently not possible, but should be.

Well, the boss sidecar with vulcan can always be included as an option at a later date...
It's a good first step I suppose...
But it really doesn't do anything Tutorial-wise to prepare players for just how porous bases are and thus how undisciplined & luck base the positioning in this game really is. What little habits exist for minimizing those issues, can't be learned/refined in this "training" area rendering it somewhat moot IMO.

Well yeah and Lup just answered this as well...
I look forward to fully testing their Tutorial (& probably critiqueing it) once they do get it made. It's definitely one of those Make-or-Break deals for all their arguments on whether they succeeded with a friendly Meta or not.... as per an Episode of Extra Credits I linked to last month that directly inversely equated Tutorial complexity with the Depth of the game itself.
