I said I wont be coming back until it is in and I'm sticking to that. I think their weapon design of make them all similar is pretty stupid and makes for one bland gun game. I mean in Planetside they all felt unique to each other, even the factions did because their main weapons had a different play to them. In Planetside 2 they all feel the same, they all look the same, they all play the same, heck even the Shotguns look like Rifles and sound like silenced rifles. Remember when the Jack Hammer sounded menacing? Now you can't hear the frigging thing, if I'm killed by it, it's like being shot by any quiet weapon in the game, it has no distinct personality.

For me the MCG is about running around and gunning, Higby even said that himself in a Gamespot video playthrough once. I asked a question to Gamespot and they asked him, he said "yeh those people don't tend to" or something along those lines. That was a response to me saying how I don't want to take cover with the cover. If I wanted to do so I'd use one of the other many many bland rifles in the game.

So give the MCG some personality, make it underslung, make it useful and let people who want that play style to have it. Back when I last played in December I didn't take cover anyways, I didn't see many people who did, usually it was just spawn camping lol.

Anyways, if it is in then great I'll come back, if not I stand by my principles.

T-ray said it wont be back to underslung. It had a issue where if you were crouched behind something it would just shoot the wall. Id still rather a underslung though. The worst thing of all is they were too lazy to even change the depot icon!!! Like come on!

So they won't make it underslung because it will be... underslung?

I don't use a chaingun to crouch behind walls, a little variety in the gameplay of the guns would have been nice. If I wanted to be a pussy and camp behind something, I could use any of the other bland weapons that all look and play the same.

Oh well, I'll continue not to play then.

I do have to say it's really weird to play/not play a game based soley on one weapon's appearance. I mean I can count a dozen reasons right now that people might be turned off by Ps2, but a single weapon not looking the way it was promised isn't among them.

I felt the same.

Well, I'd rather using underslung Mini-Chaingun, although this new one looks nice. But I'd love to use underslung again, it's one of the main charms about this weapon. Too bad they won't have it back, almost every MCG user want it to be underslung. About the crouch thing, why don't they just fix this crap?

This is probably the second silliest reason to quit a game i have ever seen.

The first one being people quiting Team Fortress 2 due to the existance of lime paint or a speciic hat or something along those lines.

As for it being undersung? It is a bit bland in function aswell isnt it? Why not make it function more or less like the Heavy's miniguns in Team Fortress 2. It spins up and starts fireing but you can only walk when doing so. To compensate give it insane firepower. From what ive seen right now its just a fancy looking lmg. just liek the Jackhammer is a fancy looking shotgun.

Forever slow Mini-chaingun users would be bad. You wouldn't be able to keep running with your mates, and you would be an easy target, even though you'd be using a devastating weapon as you said it would have way more firepower.
I'd say it would be useful if they just decrease a bit the TTK and balance it to be higher ROF. And underslung would be appreciated as well.

I don't think they'd have a problem if they had made the barrel at held at waist-level, just above most cover in this game, 'cause this

http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/album/vmscby2n9f/20120305_4f552c7b07410.jpg

really was too low

Something like this though

Would work fine I think, with that upper grip being somewhere on the side instead

Just... not the shoulder-fired cake-mixer we have now

I could go on a rant again about making that one of its drawbacks for its low mobility but high ROF, high damage model... but it's no use I think, SOE doesn't want to experiment with unique weapons

Underslung MCG used to make it's own cover back in the day with a wall of hot lead hehe ;)

I don't play TR and don't plan to start, but I'd still like to see the old underslung MCG make a comeback. That thing is just cool.

Honestly, what's the problem with just introducing this as a variant with slightly different stats and the old firing stance? So people won't be able to crouch behind cover and fire it - fine - just buff it a bit to compensate for that shortcoming.

If they already have the model, etc. wouldn't selling this just be easy money?

Sure, except they would then have to take all the complaints about it not being able to fire above cover, it not being worth it etc. Leading players to demand refunds etc.

I agree, PS1 was much better at having a chaingun than PS2 is.

Agreed, I bought the shoulder fired MCG anyway on general principle but I never really use it, for obvious reasons. Underslung is simply more badass looking and adds to the nostalgia.
Fuck cover, you've got an MCG! It's for assaulting things, not hiding.

I would feel bad for killing you if we were in the same server. You're a nice VS guy. :D
Agreed with everything you said, they could just boost some things on the underslung MCG design, and make it a bit more powerful than the current MCG. For example, they could cut the edges of those huge shapes by 45 degrees, so it wouldn't look like it's not well polished, and they could add the circles from the new MCG to the old one, so it would be even better looking.

Sure, except they would then have to take all the complaints about it not being able to fire above cover, it not being worth it etc. Leading players to demand refunds etc.
Then, they could just add it to the item's description:
***WARNING*** BY USING THIS MINI-CHAINGUN MODEL, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO BE EVEN MORE DEVASTATING WITH IT THAN WITH THE ADS MINI-CHAINGUN. HOWEVER, YOU'LL NOT BE ABLE TO HIT YOUR TARGET IN SOME CASES, FOR EXAMPLE WHEN CROUCHED TO COVER.
Or anything like that. I don't understand why someone would get in cover with this weapon, it's not made to do tactical stuff. It's made to show your damn face to the enemies while you shoot their faces. And anyway there's also walls to cover, just get in a better position where - when you need cover - there's a wall or something that you don't need to crouch for cover.

Honestly there are more pressing issues with the MCG than its model. Currently the MCG and all other HA weapons are practically useless in most situations. Only the lasher has a niche role due to its AoE but even then its highly situational. HA is arguably the worst weapon type in the game right now.

Making the MCG underslung would make it look better but make it even more of a lackluster weapon than it already is. You already have prowlers not able to hit targets they have line of sight on because of the off center barrels and max units have "dead zones" where they cant hit a target. I have no desire to see even more weaponry have its performance hindered due to the art design.

It is what it represents in a lot of ways, the boring weapon design of Planetside 2 and SOE's attempts at trying to balance everything into playing the same.

For me personally though the underslung MCG made me proud to be part of the faction, it kept me playing because I felt like a badass. It was also something as important to me as my character, it was my identity.

For the same reason I quit playing Vanu in Planetside because of the Glowing Force Blade being removed (they could have just turned the glow off in cloak) I don't want to play TR in Planetside 2. Only the difference with Planetside 2 is there are loads of lackluster areas that just all build up to making me quit the game and not just the faction.
