hey guys,
sometimes i'am lacking FPS and when they drop to 10-25 i can barely hit anybody outside of a vehicle !
Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Phenom II X4 945 Processor 3.00 GHZ
8gb of RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
my drivers are updatet and when i follow the zerg it can happen that i drop to 15~ fps :-/ the game runs not smooth enough to hit someone as i could :S
In outfit coordinated operations when we are facing smaller groups of people i have no problems at all.
I'am already using the ultra settings ( 1 fog which increased my performance slightly ) and the CPU unpark utility.
My system is not good, but not bad at all ! Some suggestions ? I don't know so much about hardware when i'm honest

you are obviously cpu bound .

It could be your video card (7700 series is very vague), but it's more than likely your processor. You can alleviate this issue by upgrading to an Intel, or overclocking to at least 3.5 GHz.

Hi zauberkraft,
I have basically the same computer as you. I didn't find that upgrading to settings to ultra helped at all for me, because then the PC became GPU bound and started slowing down (I don't think the 7700 can handle ultra settings). I overclocked my CPU to 3.4 GHz (look here for a guide (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596023&highlight=overclock+amd))
Using the following UserOptions.ini settings, it doesn't look super, but at least I don't ever go below 25 fps, even in zerg situations:
[Display]
FullscreenRefresh=0
Maximized=0
FullscreenWidth=1280
FullscreenHeight=1024
WindowedWidth=1024
WindowedHeight=768
RenderQuality=1.000000
Mode=WindowedFullscreen
FullscreenMode=Windowed
[Rendering]
GraphicsQuality=2
TextureQuality=2
ShadowQuality=1
RenderDistance=1500.000000
Gamma=0.000000
MaximumFPS=120
UseLod0a=0
VSync=0
OverallQuality=-1
LightingQuality=2
FogShadowsEnable=0
EffectsQuality=1

FloraQuality=1
ModelQuality=2
ParticleLOD=1
ParticleDistanceScale=2.0000
MotionBlur=0
VerticalFOV=74

Definitely your CPU. I used to have the 955 OC'd to 3.7Ghz and I still got bad drops, and it didn't improve until I got an i5. If your CPU is a Black Edition I'd look into bumping that multiplier up a bit.

As everyone else has said, most likely your CPU.
But I would consider, next time you post a technical issue, posting it in the tech forums. Goku can help you out a lot there.

This thread should probably be in the technical forum, you'd likely get the most educated responses over there.
That said, the general consensus is probably correct; PS2 is a heavily CPU dependent game, and as an AMD fan even I have to admit they've fallen pretty far behind Intel in performance... it's even becoming hard to justify buying AMD for budget reasons.
Pressing Alt-F in-game activates the FPS counter. If you see a [CPU] next to the FPS value, the game has determined your CPU is the limiting factor, if you see [GPU], it's blaming your GPU for the frame rate limitation.
This said, it'll blame CPU for bottlenecks with your system memory (RAM). This is because slow RAM can cause your CPU to have to wait to access data stored by the game. You didn't specify the speed of your memory, but it's probably it's DDR2-1066 (PC2 8500) if you're running an AM2+ motherboard, or DDR3-1600 if you're running an AM3 motherboard. At least, this is what it should be. I wouldn't worry too much about upgrading from AM2+ to AM3 just so you can run DDR3-1600... from what I've heard you might net a few frames per second at most. I'd just be sure you're not running your memory any slower than 1066.

sorry for the wrong section, but thanks a lot for the answers.
When is spawn at the wg i run around 50-60fps [GPU] . Before GU3 i got problems with stuttering etc but the ultra settings fixed that for me and the game ran smoother.
I will try the solutions of Sunny and after thsi i will decide if i need a new cpu ^^

I got 955be at 3.2ghz and I get about 30 FPS even in bigger battles
I've disabled SSAO + shadows = minimum
everything else I run at high + ultra textures from the useroptions.ini (it actually improved my FPS)
I get over 60FPS when there's no action usually too, since last patch. It felt like my overall FPS nearly doubled.

with the settings of sunny ( except my resolution is 1920 cuz otherwise ps2 is not shown correctly :o ) i get 60~fps when nothing big is happening. The game looks not so nice anymore , but its enough for me. Thank you Sunny ! I run 50+fps in larger battles now <3
