View Full Version : Switching factions
Is there a time limit on whether you can switch factions in the middle of a fight. This concerns me because the other day I was with my outfit defending a position, the fight was kind of intense, alot of NC outside trying to get in but we held them pretty good. Well at one of the points we had a 4 man squad, I was on the bottom floor, when a random (friendly) runs into the room. He opens fire on me, initially I thought ok its my Girrafe camo, but he didnt stop shooting, and I die. I think what a newb, well he runs upstairs, and drops a grenade, and takes out the other guys in my group as well. So I guess my question is, is there a time limit on switching factions, and if there is not, is there going to be one in the future. I understand that all they have to do is make another account to by pass this. I mean jerks like this makes it hard to appriciate the game and have fun.

Nope, no time limit. Unfortunately. Perfect to grief your enemy. Or get griefed.

That sucks. Did you report him?

You need to use the report tool when that happens. Completely unacceptable.

A simple solution would be to only allow 1 character per server.

A 60 minute time limit before using another character on the same server would be enough to prevent the worst I guess... that should be enough time to cool some heads off and you could still play with your buddys on another faction if you want to.

Oh boy... have to revisit this topic again?
The problem with any timer is that this is a free to play game. It takes 20 seconds or less to create a new account. SOE doesn't verify email addresses. So say you make a 60 minute timer to switch factions... all you end up doing is punishing legit players that just want to play there other characters. It does absolutely nothing against stopping people from logging on a second account that want to grief. Griefers will just make another account.

That is why SOE should tie all accounts to phone numbers. It would make creating new accounts a lot harder -> less cheaters, less griefers. Sometimes you need to turn more than one screw.

Probably not going to happen because again this is a F2P game and that isn't the norm. They want as many potential customers as possible and any kind of intrusion to their security... phone numbers.... will probably not fly with more people just wanting to check the game out. Hell that won't fly with a lot of players already playing the game. This game relies on a large player base to thrive.
The best solution has already been mentioned. /report and select killed by last player and send it to SOE to handle.

We did do a reports, we were pissed about it, we figured one of the NC guys logged out, and logged in as a VS, killed us and thought it was funny because he thought he was a spy.

Excuse us dragonskin we didnt mean to make another thread about griefers. You know you do have the option of not reading this thread, and maybe find another thread to troll. Also to prevent this I think they should verify email address, or at least take some kind of measure.

Hmm, didn't know trolls answer the question at hand while providing the correct method to handle the problem. Interesting... or you know you could use the search function on forums to you know... see if your idea has been brought up before.

Yeah. There's a small but very lame group of players that think being a "spy" is a viable play style. TKing is gay. Deploying MANA turrets to block doors & vehicle bays was gay when guys spammed it as "spys".
/report does not work in all cases. I've see hacks/chests in game (from a moderate distance), but not be able to get the player name......cuz I couldn't see it at all ... or, it was one of those "b68ll11bddbd" sort of names.....
They need a /report....."last three minutes of gameplay" as a dropdown .... maybe also add one keyword: infantry, scythe, sunderer, missle lock,.....invincibility, aimbot, lagger,...... whatever.

I'm starting to get a bit more aggressive about reporting hackers or other undesirables, as they seem to be on the increase.
I've got FRAPS on my PC so I can record their activities; yesterday I even let a cheat, who had glitched inside an ammo tower with seemingly infinite ammo, kill me so that I could record their name on the "Killed By" screen. Raised a ticket in game and also on the official site, with a link to a youtube clip showing their activities (not repeated here, of course).

I commend you for your efforts to combat cheaters.
It sucks.

now see, you can put all of the restrictions you like in place on accounts/characters, but you forget one very crucial thing: The game is free to play. Making an SOE account takes about a minute with a junk email account from google, yahoo or microsoft live.

Aye it wouldn't prevent those really wanting to grief. A restriction might deter the more "casual" griefers for whom griefing is probably more a spur–of–the–moment kinda thing.

I can only hope that they didn't bother using a different account to grief like this. That get's his/her actual account when they slap those wrists.

All Sony needs to try to do is ban Griefers faster & more consistently than other games do.
Griefers are lazy no-life losers ..... out to get some quick & easy jollys. If PS2 keeps banning them, they'll go somewhere else.
Griefers will grief. Sony needs to consistently give them grief once they're identified as griefers. I believe the majority of these worms will go to the games where they have to do the least amount to get away with being asswipes.....

So you think it's that someone logged out of his VS character, logged back in as his NC character, traveled to wherever you were and then started TKing you? That has got to take at least three or four minutes to accomplish.
Do people think that this is really a serious problem? Seems like a lot of effort to go to, and by the time you'd have switched teams and gotten to where you want to be, it's pretty likely that the fight would have moved. Just doesn't seem feasible.
I think it's way more likely that you just met someone who thought it would be funny to TK.
