Actually I think it's more accurate to say that Planetside 2 is SOE's new cash cow. What other SOE title is relevant? EQ2 is old... EQ1 is even older and no one plays Vanguard or Planetside 1. DCUO was largely a flop by most core gamers.

They can market the came til the cows come home, but if new players show play the game and realise it's a bug-ridden unoptimised mess, they won't play it again.

They'll also tell their friends that it's a bug-ridden unoptimised mess. Which means they won't play it either.

What would you rather have? Lots of marketing that doesn't bring in long-term players, and in fact risks creating a negative view of the game? Or spending the effort and money on making the game stable and fast, thereby bringing in slightly less players, but ones who will stick around (players who buy stuff and subscribe)?

If marketing brings in ten players, only two of whom stick around, and stabilising the game only brings in five players, but three of those stick around, what would you prefer?

You're most certainly correct. They just won't halt the marketing while the rest of the developers fix the issues, nor is there any reason why they should. An event such as this doesn't take time away from fixing the performance issues.

Its a weekend event, the guys there are the "higher ups" not the core developers that work on stuff that needs ot be worked on and its a marketing event for them.

Stop bitching about anything you can bitch about just because you have access to the internet. This is a good thing for PS2, increases visibility and anyone who cannot see that has no idea about how the world works.

Awesome setup, glad I got to meet Hamma finally, and got to see Higby enjoying boss toss as much as I was. Can't wait for tomorrow to see what's going on. The stations have always been full the whole time they are running, nice to see that. I also got to chat with the reach cast guys for a bit, nice guys, hopefully they didn't mind my trolling about magriders too much haha.
