GU04 broke the hot spots system by making all faction hot spots the same color - orange - ... now we're back to the old "we have no idea where our friendly platoons are situation," or the "where are the evil TE zerg swarms," stinker.
edit:
Both Higby and Malorn have confirmed this is not a bug and was intentional. The friendly activity filter and troop distribution UI from Roadmap - April - Improvements to Strategic Communication additions should solve this.
Can't wait to have friendly activity filter added, it's actually the single most useful feature I've been asking for since starting PS2.

I've always found it strange/bad that the maps tell me more about the locations of enemies than of friendlies. It seems obvious to me that I should somehow know the location of my faction's troops.

Knowing where the bulk of your forces is, is something I've wanted since release.

If they can do it with enemies, it stands to reason you should be able to do the same with allies.
At least give us an idea just like for enemy forces, if showing the actual position of allies is an issue resource-wise.

It is strange isn't it? It actually hurts my brain as to how this didn't get added in BETA stage...
One of the single most important basic functions any team based fps has is it's mini-map/map screen and the tactical data teammates are provided with in order to work together efficiently, and the most basic of basics is friendly troop positions... and a game on the scale of PS2, local friendly positions is not anywhere near enough, the entire continent worth of friendly troop locations needs to be shown.
Their adding continent wide friendly troop data in April's roadmap features, but still... it's baffling a dev playing his/her own game doesn't take notice that such a basic vital function is missing until this long after release.  Brain-pain is what it is for this one... lol

As I said in the other thread regarding instant action/hotspots.
Why did this from GU02 (http://wiki.planetside-universe.com/ps/Game_Update_2_(2013/02/02)) need changing, I was under the impression that it was very popular?
Hotspots have been reworked.
They have a much more visual representation on the map and are dependent on more precise and up-to-date activity metrics.
Also, the color of the hotspots is now tied to the empire that is dominating the area
There was nothing wrong with the change made in GU02 (http://wiki.planetside-universe.com/ps/Game_Update_2_(2013/02/02))

Based on feedback
Does anyone know anyone who gave negative feedback about the hotspots being coloured as per the factions?

Oh yea that reply didn't make a whole lotta sense I agree, but the good news is that the April roadmap for hex map and information changes will make it much easier to see and understand the troop distribution in the map UI.
Those features are going to make deciding where to fall back / defend / attack to a much more tactical and intelligent process than as is currently.
And I'm going to be soooooooo :groovy: happy :D to finally be able to avoid heavily spawn-camped bases as well as massive enemy zergs where there is barely any friendly presence.
Very much looking forward to this most needed update! :groovy:

Not a fan of orange. Empire indicators were fine.

"Generically explosive" - Two words that sum up this game. Sorry, just couldn't resist. :p
As for the matter at hand, i suggested something like that a while ago:

As to why something obvious helpful like that hasn't been added allready in beta? Yeahhh...does /re work meanwhile?
