Its slightly fun - it a totally useless way.

The range is short and the damage in inconsequential.

I cant imagine ever equiping this thing for a fight.

Had a phoenix missle fly straight at me earlier closed my eyes and waited for the end but it flew straight through me and blew up on a tree behind me.

I hope you aren't serious.... well, we shouldn't be surprised. If SOE released a flawless patch I think I would crap my pants and pass out.

After trying one in the VR room Im not sure if its even possible to hit infantry with one directly..

Most disappointing I guess is that they seem useless against MAX units.

I don't often play HA but I like to at least try out all the guns given the luxury of the VR instance - and to be honest it just felt underwhelming; once you get used to the flying mech I think that was about right (although sometimes it seemed to travel at different speeds on occasion??), the animations and model I thought were really good and that's where it stopped for me.
Don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting a small tactical nuke but I would have thought that for a 5 rocket launcher there would be more "oomph" behind it on impact.

One purchase I won't be rushing out to buy so I got the launcher bundle instead for the very few odd times I roll the HA out.

Could be abusable in biolabs lol

tried it out in VR.
Pros: Yay camera guided explosives
cons: thing doesn't turn fast enough, it flies through all infantry (maxes included), the rocket explodes too close to the ground, meaning stuff like lightnings can become invulnerable, it flies too slow and its range is too short.

i cannot see myself ever buying or equipping this piece of junk. to think that the tr and vs whine about it is hilarious. they have it good!

Not even. It's a guided rocket launcher that isn't the most agile one in the world. It would be SHIT in biolabs IMHO.

It works pretty well against infantry outside of VR, it's acutally the only real use I found for when I trialed it, as you don't have to be all that precise for it to hit.

- damage is close to the decimator

- manouverability is ok while the missile accelerates, aka until ~1 sec after launch. After that it's only slight adjustments really.

- pressing E while in flight exits guide mode, but the missile continues as a dumbfire (with about as much drop as the G2A missile)

- higher skillcap than the AV MANA, but that's a good thing IMO.

Overall it's a great weapon and decently balanced. It's my favourite of the 3. There's some bugs with it (flying through infantry/MAXes, randomly not being able to guide the missile), but once those are resolved I'd recommend this weapon for every NC heavy.

That's a pretty detailed review. Makes me wish I liked the NC.

That weapons true potential is in making sure that no Sunderer even thinks about coming within Phoenix range of your base. 2, 3 heavies with this thing will make sure of that easily.

I'm not sure the lack of guidance is random. During testing, it seemed to me that the projectile would only enter camera mode if there was a vehicle under the crosshair that was within a certain range.

If that's the case, it means you need LOS to use the camera, same as the other ESL's. Also, no free air drone for scouting AMS positions.

Seems fair to me that you can't blast infantry and maxs. Espeacily since the TR variant can't lock on to a max and has no dumb fire.

That's not the case, I reliably engaged the Prowler/Magrider on the far end of the VR range while standing by the Vpads (which means no LOS at all).

All empires need wire guided rockets done just like BF2 in terms of flight speed, turning, and incoming missile warning.

My AMS, the one that exploded due to fire from across a facility, would disagree. Once it's spotted there is little to nothing that can be done to save it.

I cant even describe how disappointed I am in the phoenix. When testing it out today I fired over 30 rockets in both the VR and in combat on a trial and only TWO of those rockets ever went into camera mode. The rest just dumb fired like a normal launcher. Is there some trick or something to activate the camera or something? I see others use it but it wont ever work for me.

You're insane.

I died repeatedly to Phoenix tonight. In a Biolab. Popping to the roof of a spawn point. Out in the open.

I run a heavy with T2 Flak armor on to go after tanks and AC.

I'm a most disappointed atm.

Sounds like you used a Shrike most the time. You sure you pulled the right suit? I often grab AV by accident when trying to pull AA.

I would say the Phoenix is the weakest of the three ES AV in terms of AA btw. Hitting any moving air unit is pure chance, even if you lead well. My main problem with it is the lack of a remote detonation to use splash damage like you did in PS1.

The Striker vs a Sunderer (even one with double armour level) is impossible to repair against btw.

I've also seen the NC trademark sit-back-and-spam-but-whatever-you-do-don't-push-footzerg is slowly returning to the field. :P

No it was the phoenix I am sure. I do not play NC I made a character just to test out the phoenix so I dont have any other launchers other than the basic one. And like I said it did work for two of the 30 Rockets and I did not switch loadouts.

I heard others say the camera bugs out but for me it was bugging out like 99% of the time. Maybe I was just unlucky or something but the phoenix apparently hates me. It must know I play TR :P

I had the same issue, in the end I just couldn't get it to fire in camera mode at all it was zoom in an dumb fire.
Very nice reload action though.
Far too buggy for me to spend any SC if that's what can randomly happen.

I had a similar issue. 1+ hour of playing with it and only managed to get the camera guided mode once. Buried in the the main thread on the official forums someone had a 90% solution. For some reason it doesn't like the larger FOV. I dropped mine from 74 to 60 and I went from 99% dumb fire to 5% dumb fire.
