here's what i don't like about planetside 2.

it's not that it's pay to win, because it really isn't.

it's not that there's no "metagame" because there is. you base your choices/strategies on out of character knowledge about what other people/factions can do or choose to do.

what i don't like is that you pay for success in that metagame.

if you don't buy the newest toy then you don't have the means to succeed because the new thing has consistently been the strictly dominant strategy.

i know there are examples to be found where older strategies are viable in the current meta; one example is sniping. it isn't really affected by the latest changes. there are other examples. passive traps, ghost capping, reps and heals, and many more.

my point is not to pick at what you can still do when xxx or yyy new item hits the depot. my point is to show that the only viable meta strategy is to react to whatever just hit the depot.

example: don't fly anymore because everyone has new rocket launchers, so go back to infantry onry. and if you don't have pump action then don't go close quarters because you don't have the ttk to compete.

that said, i'm not a whining quitter and i'm not trying to be a prick if people want to bandwagon onto every new thing that comes out and buy smedley a new gold watch every month.

i just think it's a cheesy excuse for meta when the platform (ps2) is so strong on its own.

i'm not going to make any constructive suggestions. this is a whine thread.

ummmmm - no

Its pretty easy to earn certs. especially now that their is VR training so you can figure out what you like its not hard to get the what you like best.

And while pump shotguns are hurting the game - its hardly a required weapon.

No weapon is 'required', except perhaps for SOME vehicle weapons.

(Ex, Liberator default gunner is nearly useless, Flyer rocketpods, etc).

Yeah, sometimes the new stuff may seem a little OP, but honestly, I think the worst 'new' thing was the Engineer turret, which really isn't even that bad.

i didn't really say anything like what you guys responded to, but that's ok.

in fact i specifically said there's plenty of ways to play that work, as long as you don't step into that area that is marked off as "victim of what just came out for sale".

i'm not even complaining that the striker is OP, i'm just going to start playing TR infantry because i used to like playing NC Aircraft. and that's pretty much a fool's game now.

Loyalty until Death. or at least Loyalty until Nerf.

"victim of what just came out for sale"

Well this is kind what happens in all games that releases new items. Everyone is gonna want it and want to play with it when it first comes out. It is a brand new toy! Who doesn't play with their brand new toy? It will be like this for all new items until the "hype" dies down.

^ Exactly as BIGGBryan says.

I don't think that the situation is nearly as bad as you make out Obstruction. If you're getting killed a lot by some new toy it is probably because a lot of people are trying it out, and once the next new toy comes along, they'll move on to that.

Yeah, my outfit had 2 dedicated mosquito players that were on air all day long.
They had stealth 5, maximum level of flares.
They keep farming and farming all day long, 7 second to lock on them, they had plenty time to kill everyone in 7 seconds, after that they released flares, more 5 second, and them, more 7 second to lock on them again!
They got rocket pods on day one, and everyone here I think it agrees, it was the best option to use you station cash on day one, a real pay2win option.
We must agree that the game was ridiculous that way.
After lots of performance problems with patches, no lock on warning patch, and a hell of nerfs to the ESFs, there is a long time I don't see one of them, the other is also rich, got the pump action shotgun on day one, plus adrenaline shield 5 and since them he found a new way of grinding, the other I think he gave up the game.

haha. i know guys. that's why its a whine thread. i'm just being a little over the top to make myself feel better and probably to say what a few other people are feeling.

and yeah i know it just means you have to be flexible in a game like this. i'm not at all limited in what i can do for fun/profit in this game, but one of my favorite things was flying and this patch pretty much killed the liberator and reaver. and lets face it, everyone is gunning for liberators now that the xp is so high and the gunner/pilot are typically high threat or better due to repairs/kills. give one faction an easy win like the striker and that just puts a chill on even taking the plane out to get blown up. we'll just go back to tanking.

a lot of other people are thinking the same thing, and i think you will notice that you have less and less air willing to, or able to fly where there is any significant fight. and that is going to have an effect on what terrain you can control, and how far your zergs are going to go before they give up and move on you.

but now i'm getting too close to constructive criticism and i promised that i would only bitch and moan about it.

seriously though thanks for the thoughts.

Out of the latest releases, I feel only the Pump-Action Shotguns are maybe too powerful.

The Striker is a non-issue for any decent pilot since Lock-on AA is a non-issue.
2s-4s lock-on , Flare for 5s Immunity, 2s-4s to lock-on again.
If a ESF pilot lingers in a area for more than 9 seconds when he's being actively locked on then he's not very good.

SMGs were "good" but the high ROF ARs and Carbines with Adv. Laser (Cycler TRV / Lynx / Jaguar) can easily offer similar hip-fire performance.

I agree Pump-Action Shotguns are maybe too strong and I can see them potentially nerfing them.
But not any time soon as otherwise the people who bought them might throw a hissy fit and quit.

As for flying, personally I have no issues. I spend most of my time in a Mossie and average ~15k score (30k with exp boosts) when there's action to be had (~10/20k during offhours).

AA can be annoying, but I feel I only die if I get too greedy or run into a Outfit Sponsored Quad AA MAX cluster. But those are rare.

Maybe the Striker is causing issues for NC/VS fliers, but I can't see how it's more powerful than the Annihilator.

I also don't fly the Liberator much since I feel like two ESFs are much better than one Liberator for anything except suppressing AA MAXs (Dalton to the face tends to shut those bursters down).

I think most of these issues are more of learning and skill. I know nowadays learn to play attitude is the biggest evil, but why play multiplayer games if you aren't ready to get better. For example, a lot of people are still flying and being successful at it although you suggest that it was impossible.

And as BIGGByran said, all new toys are used a lot since they are new.
