Sounds like SOE is using MLG as a marketing feature instead of a full-blown partnership.

Well yeah its a marketing ploy. But I imagine its also a full fledged partnership like any other mlg participating game. This first show is just a primer.

Aye, we obviously won't be seeing any real event until they implement the competitive components into the game. They haven't even changed the ingame camera yet.
Until all that happens it's just a way to advertise the game to new people. At least that's how I see it.

Yep certainly is. With a huge potential viewership almost weekly you can't argue that it will have an effect on the game. Get ready for lots of new players :D

Believe me, I'm all for it and look forward to the show on Sunday.

New players is good business and good business means more support for the game and that's a good thing.

New players don't mean a damn if they leave after a week because of the bugs. Fix the game first.

Worse then that.. NO TUTORIAL ! They are making one in.. May? Thats if they keep to the current roadmap

People who watch MLG FPS are your typical COD kids so going into a game that actaully has mechanics you need to know and think past clicking LMB they will leave in droves without guidence.

Indeed half of the newbies will quit because there is no tutorial. This game desperately needs one for the new guys.

for my understanding this war report is suppose to be an introduction to planetside for the cod crowd . therefore i would imagine that they would introduce the planetside 2 concepts through the presentation.

Yeah, we need to attracted the pro-wannabe CoD kiddies. Because we really need people like this in PS2, don't we? CoD "Pros"

We need a tutorial system in the game now. We needed one in December, we need one now.

Not just a tutorial, but a full tutorial system covering all the important aspects of the game. Start with the core stuff. Then once other parts are ready, add them in when possible.

Hamma

Agreed on the tutorial system. Not on the demographic of MLG fans. They are NOT all ragefaced kids. I've been so several events now its massive range of people.

Is this just a newbies version of the tutorial stuff that xfactor dude put on video?
(What ever happened to that, thought it was to be an on going tutorial series commissioned by PS2, maybe this is its continuation.)

I'm assuming its not designed for those already playing if its an overview and has tips for new players etc.

Where exactly am I meant to tell new players to go to watch this stuff and what time, the tweets are a bit vague?

Hamma

No idea what happened to that video series.

I absolutely accept that.

The problem is, they attract those kind of people to the game. I'd rather we had 5,000 smart, mature players than 50,000 squealing fuckwits.

However, I know that's an impossible dream...

If we only have 5000 mature, smart players then this game will sink like it just hit an iceberg. How about we welcome the horde of screaming nitwits and train them n the arts of war.

I was just using those numbers as rhetorical thing. We need a lot more than 5,000 :)

Oh, I didn't know BuzzcutPsycho was part of the MLG player demographi-

Oh, oops. He's not. There goes your argument.

Video games attract competitive people which in turn attracts assholes. PS2 has had its share of hyper-assholes since launch, before MLG was even a gleam in SOE's eyes, and it will have assholes forever more. MLG isn't going to alter that reality in any way, shape or form.

but in ps2 you can't blame your defeat on one player like you could in league of Legends or in blops2 . that is what make people worse than what they are suppose to be. it seems to center their anger on one target

Watched it for the most part tonight and well, it's a start.
Jimmy did a good job in explaining all the different aspects of the game. Hearing him talking all the time to at least give outsiders some perspective made me realize how much we seem to have forgotten as experienced players about how much there is to this game already.

We keep asking for more meta game as this game feels stale, meaningless and swallow to us atm. But already in its current state PS2 makes COD-like games feel like Fisher Price.

Biggest let down: You need a paid subscription to participate in chat discussion. This is an absolute blunder from a marketing perspective. In this early stage, you want as much people as possible in chat to help out potential new players and keep the buzz going. You can go back to a paid subscription chat barrier in a later stage but for now this game needs to build up momentum.

Ok.. I am so far singularly unimpressed with either Twitch or MLG's navigation.. Twitch doesn't save favorites/following, and the only result on MLG for PS2 War Report is a.. I'm guessing a 'we're not broadcasting right now' static feed.. So, what, MLG is only LIVE streaming? I want to support the game and the show, but neither Twitch nor MLG is making it particularly inviting to do so.. Or is there some usage model that I should just know?
---------------
So.. I finally find the 'Past broadcasts' page.. it gives me an ad.. then demands I subscribe to watch it without ads.. No, I'm not paying $10 to watch A show and figure out if it's worth watching.. So, I can watch the non-HD stream with ads LIVE, but I can't watch it afterwards? Have they learned nothing from the birth of DVRs and the death of watching TV shows live? Or, again, have they made it unnecessarily complicated to just freaking watch their content?

You guys are so off in your stereotyping of professional gamers.

I find it funny that for a community that clamored so much for more exposition of the original game, and that publicity would be crucial for the development of the second, we now find that the advertising is reaching "the wrong sorts of people." Please, abandon your poor stereotypes and see that this will probably be great for the long term health of the game.

I'm very happy to see this is done very professionally, I can foresee this pulling in a whole lot of potential members for my outfit and the game.

People are off on there stereotypes of pro gamers in general.

But not of Pro COD players lol.

That video someone posted of the COD rage was probably the funniest thing ive seen all year. Thats the reason the first thing i do in any Xbox game online is mute everyone.

Anyways. I think they went in the right direction with the first video. I would probably refer someone to these VODs if they wanted a thorough explanation of the game.
Sure it wasnt interesting from an MLG competetive standpoint but people need to know what they are watching to enjoy it.

I don't have a problem with Planetside 2 in E-sports I just think it's going to fail miserably.

All I hope is that more people start playing from watching videos like these while Planetside 2 flails about for a year or so trying to be relevent in E-sports. Hopefully by the time they give up we will atleast see some population increases cause the game is actually awesome and super fun.

Esports though??? Won't happen.

P.S. I actually hope SOE proves me wrong. They won't. But please SOE prove me wrong.
