So yesterday I ran a lot of infiltrator and noticed that enemies didn't noticed me nearly as much when I was running the right camo with the right back drop. I got me curious if I was just getting lucky or if camo actually made a difference. So I spent a few hours testing the camos with various backgrounds and lighting. Here is what I found (watch in HD for best detail):

Does Camo in PS2 Actually Make a Difference? I Test. You decide. - YouTube

What do you think? Do camos work? Are they worth it? Do you run camo that you think works well? Which one is it?

I know that if there are a 4 tanks in bright default colours and me in correct camo for the environment that a reaver might be more likely to shoot the tanks around me that it can see more 'clearly'

I'm not a infiltrator much... actually after this weekend I just dumped a lot of certs into infiltrator to try it out over the next couple of weeks.

I do own a few camos.. mostly just for looks. I have the ubran forest (grey scale one), the Tundra, Indar Scrub, some jungle one which looks terrible now, Digital Pine and picked up the Amerish Leaf camo last night.

Digital Pine, the jungle camo and urban forest are mostly useless. I picked up digital pine while it was on sale. The jungle used to look great till the update changed their colors and then the Urban Forest is mostly just because I like the look personally.. not so much to hide my character.

Honestly all the newer continent specific camos look much better than any of the previous camos... highly irritating to me. There is a Amerish Brush that would be nice for hiding in the hills/mountains of Amerish.. but I can't justify another $10 for camo just yet.

So yea... camos can help. My 3 favorite of the ones I own are Indar Scrub (Indar), Amerish Leaf (Amerish/Night fights) and Tundra (Esamir). Amerish Leaf can be used on Indar in the more green areas for hiding in bushes or at the base of trees.

I once got halfway across Amerish in a Van with Arctic Tundra equipped (my Esamir camo). It was only after I realized the error I made that some TRAF skittles nailed me. So I figure my Looney Toons camo is working perfectly.

As for the topic, I find camos pretty effective when coupled with stealth. Sometimes I get so far behind enemy lines that I run out of ammo and just abandon the tank.

i fend camo handy. if you have a good camo and are in the right terrain it helps hide you shape for a start and you do blend in. when combined with stealth as an infiltrator you can remain unseen for a long time. i was sniping in one spot for near 2 hours while attacking a base. bio dome i think it was. never spotted and got 50 odd kills for 2 deaths. one was while running to a spot and the other kill was my own stupid fault. fell off a cliff lol.

plus camo's look awesome on people and vehicles. i stick to ones that elp the most. the new ones like the indar camo and amerish one look great and seem more effective as not as bright as the other ones. these are more realistic and i like them a lot.

I haven't equipped my desert scrub camo to my TR infiltrator. Why? Because he's black, and when it's nighttime he blends in anyway.

The effect is hardly noticeable anyway, since I'm specced for CQC since lag won't allow me to aim properly. So I just go SMGfiltrator. Ftw.

Very in depth video. I don't want to bash you or the video just share my opinion on the camo.

I think watching the video the difference is so incredibly small it doesn't make even the slightest difference.

The thing to note is you had mostly static screencaps. In the actual video portions where the image was in motion the camo did not make even a fraction of difference in visibility. When you are moving around and shadows and lighting are changing and the angle is constantly shifting its easy to pick someone out in any camo. a screenshot does nothing to show how well you would be hidden while actually playing.

Your shape and basic patterns contrast so much with the environment a camo will never actually matter IMO.

Thanks for the video, nice to see them side by side like that and make an actual assessment of them.

Sure Camo's work. They're not the be all end all, and of course if you use the wrong camo in the wrong area you're a lot more visible.
I liked that you used the Amerish Leaf as it's about the darkest green you can get, but for a future video would it be possible to show some of the older Amerish camos?
It seems like they used to be darker but became much more 'vibrant' when they added in the new stuff. How much so (and by comparison show how much more awesome Amerish Leaf is than the previous camos) is something that's a bit harder to test.

All in all, good stuff here.

I think it can help.

Especially Giraffe. I know this because fellow VS keep shooting at me when I wear it. It must work on some NC then.
