I love mines. They're the gift that keeps on giving. I'd like mines even more, though, if I could affix them to things other than the floor.

Thoughts?

Gives me visions of Golden Eye 007 when I used to put mines on the walls around corners to kill friends.

Could be cool, but if they did that I would like Claymores to be a lot less directional based. Right now they are already the more challenging to use in the game.

You know, I always just assumed they all worked like the VS ones. I can see that making a difference. On the other hand, attached to a wall, all mines are directional. :)

Yea, well they would exploding away from the wall into the hallway. The Claymores will only explode forward down the side of the wall they are facing and not out into the halway so much.

Good idea though.

TR mines are awful in so many ways... also they fail alot more then the other 2.
i was looking at stats , more so the % at which mines get kills...

TR claymores will get you a kill 20 to 30% of the time.
NC and VS mines will get you a kill 35 to 45% of the time.

pros with a claymore..... i havent found one yet:(

cons.... they stick up above the floor so everyone can see them, they have bright lights and lasers coming out of them so everyone can see them, they take time to set,you cant just drop it on the floor and run along like you can with the other 2. also this is a very old bug ,and but still happens, when our mines fall into the floor they dont work...... when prox mine falls into a floor nobody will ever see it and you still get the kill.even when ,and if they ever are tripped 60% of the time they dont even work. people just dont take damage from them sometimes

TR got shafted on the AI mines

I am fairly sure the green lasers for the activation cone only show to friendly players. I don't remember ever seeing those on my VS character. They do stick about a foot up from the ground so they are easier to see from a glance. People putting them at the top of stairs are the easiest to see of all three for sure.

I agree though. The only way to really use a claymore is hide it so people don't see it right away. Like at the edge of a doorway, but due to the cone it's sometimes easy to walk past it without even tripping it or only getting a glancing blow from it. The bouncing betty and proxy mines are way easier and in the bouncing betty's case.. harder to see on building floors.

LOLOLOL i thought the same thing until i was on my NC and i was walking up to a door and what did i see???? green lasers..... test it. TR mines should have a sing on top of them that says" dont step here".

I think the obvious solution is it just faces out form the surface its attached to.

Only if they have some kind of serious deployment time - the whole deploying mines under or on active things is just not how mines were meant to be used.

If anything this could alleviate the jihad engineer syndrome - motion rather than pressure. You could technically attach it to an enemy sunderer and it would be armed but not activated until you set off this would give the disarm mechanic a place to work. Obviously optimal place would be under the vehicle and hidden but equally if they were placed on the roof it'd be kind of pointless as they're not going to be motion activated; however still good practice for drivers/occupants to once-over the vehicles to check for any surprises left before setting off.

Edit: not an overall solution for attaching mines and being detonated by secondary explosion/fire - however think it gets rid of the main issue for that side to be negligible issue.

To be clear, I was just talking about antipersonnel mines. I also think there should be an arming time, but I'm less concerned with the exact details.

Wow, I didnt realise the green beams are visible and the claymore stand vertical for enemies. I just presumed they displayed that way to make them easier to see for the person deploying them.. That is bloody terrible, please fix devs. I almost never see VS/NC mines till im dead !

yea its pretty sad. if they plan to put deploy timers on av mines they should do it for ai mines aswell.
this is why the avg kill to claymore is 30%. the avg kill to prox/betty is 45 to 50%.we might aswell have a sing thats says
"PLEASE DONT STAND HERE"

Yea the claymores are horrible.

For antipersonnel mines I think this is a cool idea. :D

I was able to walk all over a room with setting off the claymore in it once. I didn't even see it until I hid for shield regen and noticed those green lines my medic didn't.

It was like an episode of Tour of Duty where you see a mine at the last moment but don't have the time to tell your buddy about it before he steps on it. :tear:

I always figured TR designed their AI mines on the assumption that NC are stupid.

Not stupid... just eager and dont look / care where they are going. Gottakill!, gottakill!, gottakill!

Having said that, all of my claymore victims last night where NC :)
