Just wanted to make a thread here discusses the usefullness/immersiveness that the music used to provide back in ps1. I really enjoyed the calm ambient music playing as i flew my aircraft around or rolled around with my outfit..

PS2 seems to really lack the music :( I find myself playing this video on youtube that goes through all the ps1 music while im playing ps2 :/ lol

Planetside 1 Music Compilation by TartarusMkII - YouTube

Now ive left my characted sometimes at the warpgate for a while and noticed that some vanu music started playing and it really sounded nice, its just the game rarely every plays the music :s

Anyways would be nice to hear all the opinions and i hope they release an update at some point that adds ALOT more music.. Because when your playing an MMO for a couple of hours you need those refreshing tones that keep you going, also different zones should have their own sounds.. thats how it was back in ps1 and it was very distinct music for different zones, loved it :)

tbh i never listen to in game music. i think it break immersion. you dont have music playing in the background in a real war so i dont in fps games.
the music in planetside 2 is ok and i like the faction specific tunes. though i never have it on much as i like to hear the sound of battle and foot steps of y enemy's lol.

There is alot of music allready in PS2 you just dont hear it most of the time as its one of the first things to be auto muted when the action starts.
I mosty notice it in the lulls when driving from base to base or when ive pulled an MBT from the WG and am heading back out.

I really love the music while playing in PS1.

But the NC music in PS2 is so egregious that I always keep it turned off.

I wish they would bring back PS1 music and play at the same times they played in PS1.

I don't think the current music fits the continents per se, the factions yes but continents not so much.
Subtle ambient music I think can really add character to a location or situation. Everyone has a different interpretation of their own soundtrack try "The New Angle" from the soundtrack for Sunshine while in a convoy on Esamir pretty much almost anything from Borderlands 2 can work as well through various locations of the game.

Would be great to see some new music available; if you don't listen to it anyway then it's no skin off your nose really. I think it was Don Ferrone(?) that did the original music right? Would be interesting to see if someone like Kevin Riepl, Mooze or Jesper Kyd could come up with a take on things based on their lengthy catalog of game score backgrounds.

Edit: Failing mainstream names on the music front why not turn this over to the community? There's going to be a handful of competent Cubase/Logic users (and above) that can turn their hand to this on a professional scale and produce something good that's worth listening to and including as content. Maybe run it as a competition, stipulate length and sampling requirements and go from there.
SOE get the game content and the content producer gets a major thumbs up of recognition in their portfolio if they're serious about that sort of thing. Users who are passionate about a game don't need monetary incentive; things like Steam Workshop are proof of this.

It's lacking in atmosphere that's for sure. It doesn't play anywhere near enough.

Broadbent's score is great and all (except the nc. oh god I feel bad for them) and really gives each empire their unique touch. But it's just not Planetside. Where's the signature Planetside electric violin?

I really want them to get Don to modernise his ambient/combat music and put it in the game. constantly hearing explosions is boring.

the continents are lacking character and atmoshphere. bringing back Don's continental themes will help.

See you have the choice to mute music if you don't want it. Those that do want more music have no choice.

Yea i fully agree man, the lack of ambient music ques really makes the whole ps2 world feel like it has no character :/ hope they add this soon as it would really make my experience of this 10x better :)

But I must say that as much as i miss the PS1 music - I doubt I could handle anything that messed up the hearing of footsteps and the identifying of gun fire.

yea but for all of us who do want the music it would be nice, for people who want to listen to the footsteps and be all serious the music sound can be turned down in settings..

Jeff Broadbent, PS2 composer actually has alot of music made for PS2 but quite a bit of it instant included in PS2. I love the NC combat tune, killer bass line with violins..
