View Full Version : Instant action = instant boring camp fest

Instant action used to work for what I wanted it to do. I could use it to go to a fight and start killing things, and getting killed. I could use it to play an FPS and do some first person shooting.

Currently all instant action does is send you to a camped base, where you sit around and "wait for the points" if that's your thing. It's boring, not my cup of tea, if I wanted that I'd join an outfit.

Instant action needs to be fixed so we can use it to get into the action. Do some shooting, not sitting at bases with no real fighting going down. Also what's the point on the instant action timer now? Why when it puts me in an already capped base where there might have been fighting 2 minutes ago, do I need to wait 5 minutes to use it again?

Why can't I just look at the map and spawn where a battle is going on? What happend to the defensive spawn? They are broken now and only take you to place against overwhelming odds where you stand no chance, or to battles where the attack has already been reppelled. Often the defensive spawn is to a base that for some reason is flashing, but there isn't any fighting going on whatsoever... or even enemies detected on the map. Defensive spawns used to work, but now they don't, why were they intentionally broken? Were functional defensive spawns too big of an advantage for defenders?

Most of the time it takes me to the Crown...

Anyway, you could always just pull your respective ESF and get to a fight. More reliable than IA.

That doesn't help instant action. Instant action is supposed to be there for joe casual to get into a fight and have fun playing the game. It fails at that. I use instant action also when my ESF timer is down, or rather I used to, but now it just sends you to a camped base where the battle is already done and if I'm going to sit around doing nothing, might as well just do it at the warp gate...

I've used Instant Action twice since the big changes; once I ended up on the receiving end of a zerg with the base about to flip, the other time I ended up at some remote enemy held outpost on Esamir (I don't regard ghost capping as "Instant Action"). Waste of time, and now I just "Redeploy" hop my way to the action; dull but effective.

A shame this has been ruined; I did enjoy drop pods. And I did enjoy the cat and mouse game that developed between the attackers drop podding onto the Crown tower and the defenders on the flight pads below (good target practice for Dual Falcons).

I would like to see some choice in where you can be deployed by drop pod, at the expense of a long cooldown timer or a resource cost. Would be nice to be able to set a waypoint on the map and drop pod there (edit - as well as offering a few choices to casuals). If this gives too much of an advantage to attackers, drop podding could be limited to areas held by your own empire.

The times I've used it, it has placed me into an near overrun base that is about to flip. A few times was enough. No IA for me anymore.

I do not use IA because it once moved me away from Indar after I waited for 10 minutes in a continent queue.

I just waste an ESF each time I log in. I never have a problem finding a good fight that way.

I don't understand why anyone plays anything other then ESF... Outside of being in an ESF where you can choose your engagement, pretty much every fight is you being overrun by overwhelming force, or you being in the overwhelming force. Sure you can do outfit play, and ensure you're always in the overwhelming force, if you like spending the majority of your time camping spawn rooms. To me it's boring or frustrating, infantry fighting in this game that is enjoyable and engaging is rare... (unless of course you're in a large outfit and you enjoy fighting at least 2 to 1 all the time, and spending most of your time camping spawn rooms at already won battles, in which case we just don't find the same things fun).

On Connery there might be one battle going on at any given time that would be fun to engage in, outside of an ESF. I used to be able to use instant action and defensive spawns to get to that one fun battle. I'm a smart guy, I can look at the map and see somewhere I can go where I can enjoy myself. It used to be I could use instant action or defensive spawns to get to those engaging battles, not anymore. In the current game state the only way to get to a good fight is to chain redeploy, which can literally take up to 5 minutes. Sorry but that's not fun, it's just frustrating and time consuming.

The developers can fuck off if they think clicking green dots repeatedly over the map, and being forced to wait 20 seconds between clicking those green dots while being forced to the standard spawn in screen each time is a good feature. Forcing players to waste 5 minutes of tedium just so the player is not stuck fighting at 5 to 1 or worse 1 to 5 odds is just terrible design implementation - especially since they had a semiworking features that allowed players to get into entertaining battles and intentionally removed those features. Even worse I've invested more then 500 certs in a spawn beacon to aid in the hard task of getting into good FPS battles, but I haven't been able to spawn on ANY spawn beacon on any of my characters in months now. Generally speaking infantry combat is shit in this game, and that's not due to class balance or abilities or anything to do with infantry fighting mechanics. Outside of an ESF right now this game is complete and utter garbage with more player time spent camping spawn rooms or being camped in spawn rooms then anything else.

Telling me to waste my ESF, the only fun thing in this game to do, just to get to a possibly good FPS fight on the ground is asinine. Flying an ESF is all this game has to offer, in my mind infantry combat was just there to soak up the resource or spawn timer if that was an issue -but now I can't even get into any infantry combat that's anything other then camping or being camped because the developers removed the only reliable ways to get into decent infantry fights. The last changes to instant action, defensive spawns and territorial cap times have ruined any possibility of enjoyment for a casual player; actually they've pretty much wrecked any part of this game outside of flying an ESF.

Use a liberator then.
