Territory will mean something, as you can pinpoint a hotspot and say, "Here is where we make our stand. Here is our Thermopylae!" Red alerts will no longer have the sway they once did. You can, with speed and timing, effectively cut them off.
Your enthusiam is great. However, it's no different from the game now. There is no more incentive in the lattice system to do what you stated. The same current attitude to capturing bases still exists, because bases have no value. When there's a zerg of defenders sitting at Allatum, the attackers will still be able to simply go to Hvar. When Zurvan is half flipped by the enemy, you can just go take Rashnu. The same exact situations as we currently have will once again exist.
The lattice is great in theory, but the current implementation is not going to change the way Indar plays out. It's going to be the same zergs avoiding zergs until they decide to come head-to-head at a base, meanwhile the zones around them will be ghost capped.
I'm not trying to be negative, but there should be no praise given for a system that is not effectively changing the way the game will play. The intention of the lattice is to give players direction and eliminate ghost capping of major bases. The current lattice is not going to do that, it still needs work.

I saw and nice article.
I think a few more things are needed, most small.
1. Digital Timers instead or in addition to the Bars signifying hack progress.
2. Some rehack/resecure award - perhaps small but it should go to everyone who participated, ie in the locality.
3. A CR5 chat of some kind - I've commented about this previously ad nausiam (text not voip).

What more do need than /orders and /leader?

What more do need than /orders and /leader?
Well my reasoning is that
- it's too easy to get, the person speaking may be anyone and have little experience.
- it's limited to squad leaders, you'll recall that in ps it wasn't and often the best contributions weren't just squad leaders.
- often it's best use was in intelligence gathering, we need a /sitrep
As a supplementary, the text box should not fade out as quickly as it does. Presently it fades before you have had a chance to read it. I think this and it's limited scope is the reason it's not really used.
I know Higby thinks text is old fashioned but we could and often did organise whole empires using text alone. - I can't speak for you ofc, maybe (probably) DD operated differently because of your size (I never played on your server until the very end (Gemini) when I don't think your outfit was that active although I did see you running around once or twice).
**Edit - the other argument in favour of Text is multi-language. Last night I turned VOIP off because there wasa someone transmitting in Russian. Now I like the Russians I've come across in PS, they've been great but that's not the point. It was just random sound to me.
In the US you have a comman language we don't in Europe. Of course the Lingua Franca is English ;) but not everyone is fluent in it and people who are less than fluent often find it easier to read than listen and type rather than to speak.

Given the reason for doing away with Global, it was surprising they added an even easier to aquire Global in Orders. It is easier to get, but it is there and can do anything PS1's Global could. It's just underutilized as most PS2 players seem to be new to the franchise and it's not in their culture - yet.
The SL limitation does have the positive that it limits the # of players who can use it at once and those who are using it are in a leadership position. Unless of course, they are a 2 man squad just so that they can use it.
SitRep is not really needed as there are so many tuned into the /leadership voips and chats.

Contrary to some posters ideas the main purpose of a lattice is to have more zergs collide from time to time.
The lattice is not sopposed to stop zergs from existing. its supposed to stop the wandering zerg of pointless caps.

That's how I see it as well. It's also how I've understood the advertising/thoughts behind the concept.

The intention of the lattice is to remove ghost capping by zergs, as far as I understand it. You're supposed to be funneled into a fight, rather than having the option to avoid the fight.
