Hear me out, this may be stupid, but it makes sense to me.
The planetside 2 developers seem to forget how awesome planetside 1 was. The are ignoring the parts of the game that worked in an attempt to be forward thinking and innovative.
1) Just bring the lattice system back. All of it. we tried the hex system, it worked as well as pre-lattice planetside. don't cover it up what your really doing by basically gutting the hex system, but keeping the name.
2) guns. So we have more guns than we will ever need already. Please dont turn this into "nerf X so we make Y more appealing to boost sales" please keep your business model to making money off of cosmetics and boosts. planetside 1 released something like 7 guns from release to today, 10 years later. this game has already exceeded that. more weapons = tougher to balance.
3) My next gripe is the ability to lonewolf and how simple it is, but that would require a entire overhaul of the core progession system, so ill save my breath there. I'll just say how much I liked how, in planetside 1, solo you could do pretty much nothing, and it required a team of people to accomplish most tasks in the game.
4) base design is weak. The smaller outposts IMO are fine, they work well in the squad size fights I see there. The swiss cheese walls in amp stations with their 4 entrances and teleports that lead past the main line of defenses in biolabs would take some organization only the hive queen could muster to defend these bases without winning by simple numbers advantage. We need more bases like helm's deep and less straw houses in the three little piggies
TLDR: the PS2 dev team needs to look more at the product they have for inspiration.

Although I can see where you are going and can appreciate the thrust of your post, I fear it is way to late for most of this now. I sense the direction the dev team(s) are taking is 1) The next big thing and 2) How to maximise sales through weapons and cosmetics.
I think a step back, as you suggest, is not going to be on their agenda.

Choice number 1
You just mixed together a bunch of stuff you liked better in PS1 and rambled about it.
The variety of guns may be be harder to balance - but its here to stay as its basically the games business model. - and many of us like it.
Soloing was extremely viable in PS1.
That you think it wasnt suggests that you liked talking about the game more than playing it.
I don't think soloing in PS2 is a good choice.

I fully support the OP and have said the same things myself many times. Planetside 1 was developer over a long period of time, and a great game was forged through trial and error. It now seems like PS2 is going through the same trials when it could just copy PS1. All these changes coming into PS2 are straight from PS1. It's when they realize PS2's "innovations" have failed, they resort to good old PS1 mechanics.
The Cosmetics idea half-backfired because not many people are willing to pay money for cosmetics they can't see. Since you can't go into 3rd person, you can't see it. Vehicles are different, hence "half-backfired". You will still see camos, but keep in mind a lot of those also come in weapon bundles.

1) Let's try out the new lattice-like system before we start clamoring for the actual thing, shall we?
2) Planetside 1 was not a free to play title. They need to add in more guns since they sell.
I would certainly like to see some more infantry armor variants roll out, as an example, than have them oversaturate the playerbase with shotguns.
3) Not going to happen since that would kill the game. PS2 needs more lonewolfers to grow. That's one aspect of the original that I don't miss.
4) Generally agreed. I want to see completely enclosed main buildings where infantry fights stay that way and I don't agree with their approach to spawn location.
The developers need to look at the core issues and think long and hard about how to solve them, even if it requires a lot of time and effort into doing so (Making big changes).
[...] could just copy PS1. All these changes coming into PS2 are straight from PS1. It's when they realize PS2's "innovations" have failed, they resort to good old PS1 mechanics.
The sillyness of this statement notwithstanding. Said changes do not need to come from Planetside 1 and I do NOT want to see them copy everything from Planetside 1. Planetside 2 should not just be remade into Planetside 1.5. There are concepts that can be found in the original that I would like to see in Planetside 2.
If a piece of content/mechanic doesn't have a place in Planetside 2 then it doesn't have a place in Planetside 2, doesn't matter if it was in the original.
Personally I consider it a fallacy to use Planetside 1 as an argument in on itself.

1) The new system seems a lot like the old system. I'm personally excited to see it in full action.
2) We need more unique guns and more variety. They need to make guns so they can make money. In 3 years we will probably have a bazillion guns, and I welcome it. For instance, I would love to have heavy machine guns that are unwieldy and have a massive CoF and recoil until you deploy a bipod and rip shit up. Similar to and engy turret, but more practical and best crew served.
3) No. Don't alienate a massive portion of the player base. Lonewolves make the game able to be played by outfits because it gives population. Just enjoy annihilating a zerg because you had the unfair advantage of "tactics."
4) Agreed. Also, Chip hit it right on the money.

This has all been said before and slowly, ever-so-slowly PS2 is changing in the Planetside direction.
Saying this is PS 1.5 is a valid comment, but again has been said previously.

I agree with OP. Each time we're discussing a game mechanic it seems PS1 has the best solutions to offer (lattice, tanks, bases).
From my experience with PS1 just give it time guys, I see PS2 getting better with time, I also see them starting to adapt alot of the concept from PS1. Base design, lattice system, vehicles, before they start adding continents and new stuff I think that they should work on the bugs and imbalances that are keep popping up in the game.

Lonewolfing was just as viable in Planetside.
Hop in a Reaver and kill everything that moves.
Hop in a Mosquito and kill everything that flies and/or moves.
Bolt drive people dead.
MCG/Jack Hammer/Lasher things.
Cloaker + Boomer = Ninja.
The list goes on.
