u can be a storm trooper, and actually join the empire "guild" (think morrowind) and once ur high enough in rank, u get a squad to command

Red Guards are storm troopers who the Emperor personally selects because of leetness to be his personal body guards. They were Red Robes + battle armor, have a force pike, and a heavy blaster rifle under the robe, just FYI.

If you get powerful enough to kill a buncha the empires best troops (they are never alone, and rarely not by the Emperor) then you can ake that armor from their dead bodys. i think.

I seem to recall reading on the official starwars forums that you would not be able to be a storm trooper or elite guard (whatever those guys are). I also read that the Dev's were leaning towards player dependancy for items, not uber_red_armor from the lvl 65 Wookie King.

You should check the official forums Q&A and such for more accurate information than my ramblings though.
