Was wondering, would it be possible for say a INFL to "Paint" a target for bombing(I.E T2 targeting laser)

Say a NC infl painting a target for a vangard to fire upon while out of sight behind a hill..long range... AKA "calling in artiliery"

Tank could be parked behind a hill where it could not see the target, but the "painting laser" would give it the correct angles to fire to hit the target anyway.

*shrugs* just wondering..even it is or isnt possible the NDA would likly screw up any response

Some things were said, maybe.
If not, you can just have an Inf. on a hill giving directions.
*BOOM* "No, little to the left" *BOOM* "There ya go"

they're trying to avoid things like artilerey and super weapons and such to give the game a more hands-on approach to achiveing victory. I belive that there was a post about superweapons earlier taht talked about this.... find it if you wish.

hahahh. good idea actaully...
one flaw though, one the first shot happens the enemy will be on your ass in about 10 seconds

Can't see the Inf. (he's holding still), don't necessarily know where the shot came from. He would probably start to move, but with practice (and voicechat so it's fast), you can lead off for him pretty well.

maybe, but most likely an enemy aircraft could easily scout out the area within seconds or an enemy stealther could be in the area for all the attackers know....

Nothing like this has been made public, but given that there is no artillery or bombers, the idea is sort of pointless from the beginning.

Probably afterwards, but I doubt their response time is <30 secs.

I dunno, from what I have seen the NC vanguard looks like it would do a fairly decent job of playing the role of artillery, but then again I have yet to play the game to see how effective it is.

I've played it! .... Wait.... no... that was a dream... :( but I dont think u will be able to paint the sh!t, sry man, that would be kewl though. or painting a target for a bombing raid, but there are no bombers, I do like the idea of scouting a place with an inf for a safe place for a galaxy to land, that'd be kinda kewl like,

for something like a targeting laser, cnat you just set a waypoint or something? that would be an easy way to direct a tanks line of fire (well at least easier than a guy on a hill tellin em which direction they need to shoot in)

DAMMI...oh, at least after the first line it was semi-intelligent.

poodu...

*sniffles*
Would be so nice to have 3-4 infls painting several different targets on a enemy base, then have 5-6 vanguards per infl to fire at the same time...

Think about it, 20+ vanguards raining down fire onto a enemy base from some unknown loacation..Boooooooom *cackles*

would be a nice way to start a offensive against a heavily fortified base..ah well :(

Given the almost complete lack of indirect fire weapons, even if you *COULD* designate targets with a painting laser of some sort, nobody could actually do anything with it.

There will probably be some very limited ability for tank main weapons to arc their shots a bit for distance and clearance, but hopefully when this is done, the damage they inflict will be enourmously reduced....modern (and theoretically future) tank guns rely on density of shot, and velocity of projectile to get kills, something which an arcing trajectory would severely reduce, as opposed to a high explosive round which would be a lot better off.

Apart from being a logistic nightmare, long range attacks probably wouldn't be as fun either. You can't get better than unloading a shotgun at point-blank range!

Beside's if you had a line of NC tanks just one marauder coming in from the flanks would cause absolute mayhem, you'd need at least a platoon+ to guard the column plus close air support.

However, if you did have all that it would be a lot quicker to just storm the base. Jus my $0.02 worth.

Bah, I always had alot of fun in tribes with the mortor.

With good aim+someone targeting you could plant a round anywhere.

*at vehicle spawn pad*
Enemy: Say guys lets go rapzor these nubs base!
Enemy2: OMG WTF LITS PWNZOR DEM
Enemy3: NO LETS CAP THUR FLARG
Enemy4: No, lets coordinate a good attack to do all three
Enemy1, 2, 3: OMG STFU NOOBINSTEIN!!!2121!
*BOOOOOM* *bits and peices of them fly all accross screen*
Enemy1,2,3: WTF?!
