Vanu aesthetics buff incoming (colour and camo)

Following on from several threads last week here and on Reddit discussing how the Vanu aesthetics may be connected to their current population issues, we now have this from Higby yesterday:

The way I read the higgers twitter was that the base suit's and camo coverage were bieng changed .

We'll see soon enough I guess one way or another its a welcome change for the VS's infantry design .

I seriously doubt Ray would remove our purple and teal colours, all he's doing is just adding a bit more bad ass dark grey on our suits to make us more appeling to the new players.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks, it should come out very soon since it's just a few new grey textures.
I'm also wondering how the new character models for all three sides will look like in the future.

I acutlly like the VS voice actors, the TR and NC ones kinda sound like douche bags, specialy their taunts.
I also love the VS announcer , he sounds like a wise old man which imo is awesome. Not all FPS games need to have some annoying general screaming down your ears while you're playing.

I do have a VS char, currently around BR6, which I created to try out Dual Comets, and I have to say that I find the old fart really irritating, especially when he's chastising me for failing to defend a base.

What happened with the NC Female Player Voice?
She went from have the same actress as the TR one to a squeaky pre-teen...
Since the Male Voice is some Surfer Dude, are we suppose to conclude the NC make use of barely legal, barely pubescent soldiers?

...In fact I think the VS and the TR still have the same actress, she just uses different style and inflections of speech.

But as long as the team color is purple, that is going to keep a significant number of players away when your player base is primarily western young men.

I think the vanu heavy assault looks BA, but the rest of our classes need some tuning to make them look more awesome. Also I don't think the colors are the problem I think more ppl tend to like to 2 shot ppl with NC shotguns or mow down ppl with lots of bullets then just shoot teal lasers, maybe if they made our guns shoot cooler looking projectiles. Or gave us more original guns like the lasher.

That "more color as in more dark grey" quote is about the Infil. The Infil will go from silver/light gray to dark grey.

I don't think VS being purple is the root cause of them not being ultra super popular. Spyro the Dragon is purple, and he is reasonably popular.

ALSO: The teal racing stripes stay or they get replaced with purple ones. It is a requirement that your faction color be SOMEWHERE on your vehicles. For VS that means purple or teal. For NC that means blue or yellow. For TR that means red, because black is too basic to use as our racing stripe.

VS got a few balance checks and the kids empire hopped or left to chase the next butterfly that caught their attention.

Like seriously, if I could have one alteration to the game it would be to either mute the "faction commander" voice-overs or just get that one line deleted. It is the stupidest line in the entire game and the most unprofessional statement from an otherwise very professional-sounding faction.

And I could never stand the NC because of their voice macros. Sound like a motley crew of unprofessional dimwits.

They are now green and black!

Of course the empire color is still purple, but there is no longer purple on the Vanu units, all green and black!

When you use camo, only the green is left.

Now the game is officially RGB, most colorblind people are happy with that, I still cannot see the vanu in the dark. And they only get out in the dark!

Honestly, I think green should have been the original Vanu color anyways. RGB makes sense. Green is more popular, its more distinct from blue than the current purple, and I think it would provide a most generally appealing asthetic. The secondary color can remain purple and the logo and remain the same.

if the devs decide to throw the old models into the shop, i really hope, they will ONLY give them the original color shemes! but in all the possible variations that represented the ps1 battlerank colors. hey, they could even sell every different battlerank colorsheme seperately to make more money. i am sure, a lot of outfits would be proud to wear the original heroic color patterns! i totally loved to play as an almost golden scattermax or rexo cr5. camo is for sissies!

If the models are updated to current standards I'd definitely chuck money their way:groovy: And I'm saying that as someone who has never played PS1. I can only go by the screenshots online and the Vanu look way better in the original game than they do in PS2.

Yea i fully agree, PS1 Vanu were the true Vanu.. T-ray has screwed up the models and made the ps2 VS looks like a bunch of spandex monkeys.. I dont believe at all the he supports Vanu, probably NC or TR and has sabotaged us :mad:

This whole VS update was a bunch of bollox to be honest.. They said they will change up the models and then they didnt change anything, no scale armour like original VS.. Only a small colour co-ordination which still makes VS characters look like crap :/

I prefer the PS1 vanu (and NC) player models too. I think it has to do with the fact the player models suffer greatly when they stripped the intended look all infantry units (composite armor without the the black armor plating, see old screenshots) in order to sell them in the cashshop just to have another thing to sell by the release date. I'm still surprised that they have not added unique body armor to their shop by now.

Also, the lack of orange visors is depressing.

I really like Esamir because it is just like Hoth, everyone in white!

But this is a problem, I was in andavi (forgot the name, the west bio lab), a light assault landed in the middle of 3 maxes, 4 engineers, placed c4 and flew away without any retaliation besides mine, got a 6 kills with 2 c4, 3 maxes!
After that all weapon became hot, it was a hell of a tk environment!
After the third tk, I changed my camouflage to alpha squad, no longer got tk.
Now I am wondering, inside a zerg I think it is better to stay with your team color than with camouflage, the enemy got plenty of targets anyway, but I do think they will fire in the most colorful one first, so I will keep using camouflage.

Meh. I don't need to spray paint my eyeballs or be 100% invisible all the time to be sneaky. I do it the old fashioned way, by sneaking. (That and I can totally get behind looking cool and high-tech, so at least 1 vote for a few strategic emissives from me.)


In other news, totally dig the new VS look. Well timed too, as I just started playing VS a lot more regularly. ;)
