Test Server had a recent update for those that're interested. Posted my views on the SOE forums with some pictures showing some good changes and some not so great changes however noted as they were found.
Build 19/04/13

Most noted and welcome change attached though - located around Mao.

Third one looks interesting, I will have to jump on and take a better look.

I think that floating control point might make it a little too tough to attack

It's all the same base pictures but yeah it's interesting - you can access the wall via the back of the spawn directly and seamlessly as well as being able to go under the spawn room tunnel and that goes into the tower directly. It's a defensive post that felt it made sense rather than just "random structures in the desert". Lot of work required still though on other main POI hexes in my opinion.
As my PS2 forum post mentioned Archeological Dig, Nanite Pump Station and Nanite Overflow Depot have been physically wiped off the map - it's a very very bland area in that top corner and this needs to be either solved with them being replaced (albeit not part of the hex system) or having something up there that's part of the hex lattice.

They need to make room for ports and harbors ;)

That does indeed look interesting.
Edit: After having looked at it, I would think that it needs more cover from aerial attacks. The walls have no protective roofs over them, might just be missing assets. The north and south spawn room exits needs to have some extended eaves, would be nice if they went all the way to the wall as to protect players going up the small north/south stairs. I prefer to see it connect with the wall roofing.
The western one needs to have its eave extended to meet with the tower.
It's better, but still too open to aerial attacks.

Maybe a fair point but it's not like the intercontinental seamless travel is on the immediate 1 year horizon; now if they replace said area with the harbour compound etc. now as part of the lattice system then maybe we can start talking.. bulldozing part of the map with no replacement structures in preparation for something that might be added 1-2 years down the road is just crazy.

Actually Indar Excavation is still there, you're thinking of the Archaeological Dig Site...
...Which yeah, was a bit of a pain in the ass as far as Bases go...

We can only hope man, we can only hope...

Well it doesn't have to be seamless, but you are right that it would be a bit too soon...
I mean, we don't even have working Warpgates yet...
...On the other hand, those Bases were kind of tacked on, just shoved in there for the sake of having something in those Territories around Saurva.

man I hope so. Can't think of a game I played where I hated naval combat.

Dude, they can bring back BFRs as Submarines with LEGS!!!
...Except the Vanu one, that's basically a humanoid Hover Lightning...

@Whiteagle: Thanks for that - always seem to have Indar Excavation in my head for some reason. I've worked out that they've moved Nanite overflow across; but this doesn't really solve a problem but potentially exacerbate the lack of map use. It's always felt cluttered round that side of the map least of all because the dark hexes enclose that area (in the current set up) - maybe open up the dark hexes more?
