One of the patch notes on the test server are as follows:

The map and minimap should now respect your empire color selections

Not thinking much of it, I log on to the test server to check out the change to the Map UI.

Opening the map I see this:

Checking my settings, it looks like everything is correctly set, so I compare it with my settings on the live server:

Now for those of you that remember back in January before the change was forced on us, where the enemies in the color settings were as follows:

Minimap -


Objectives held by your empire showed up as green
If an enemy held an objective the below colors will display to inform you of who holds it:

TR = Red Indicators
NC = Blue Indicators
VS = Purple Indicators

All enemies showed up as red.

Squad/Platoon = Numbers with the color of their squad(Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/etc).


HUD (More specifically the names above enemies) -

Friendlies = Blue
Squad= Green
Platoon=Color of their squad(Alpha/Bravo/Charlie/etc).
Hostile Infantry/Vehicle/Turret = Red

So to give a brief example of what you would see on the minimap:

You're VS and attacking Mao Tech Plant that's being held by the TR from a concealed Sunderer. As you get there on foot you see on your minimap that one of the outer outpost are flipped to blue with red dots pouring out of the spawn room. At this point you know that you are no longer fighting only the TR, but you're now competing with the NC over this base.

As of the January patch that changed this to what we are currently using now. I still remember for a lot of people this caused confusion (to myself included), because we had to drastically change how we processed targets before we fired at them.

At this point, to get all three empire colors to show on the map you either have to set the dropdown to "Empire Colors" or "Ally vs Enemy".

Empire Colors is just what it sounds like, no matter what empire you are on, VS will be purple indicators, NC blue, TR red.

Ally vs Enemy means that all allies are blue, anyone not friendly is red, simple enough, right?

Custom is pretty self explanatory.

So the reasoning behind me laying all of this out is simply to ask that the devs do not implement the color change unless there is way to have this:

Otherwise honestly the best thing to do, is to give is a nearly raw access to being able to edit what colors we want for each HUD element (objective, squad colors, vehicle color, ammo box vs ammo tower colors vs ammo sundy colors, etc) under the custom settings. Though while I'm not a programmer, I cannot understand how easy such a thing may be.

In conclusion, please hold off on the map/minimap colors until those can be done or at least get some feedback from the players before forcing yet another feature that is unwanted and, as far as I know, something that has not been asked for.

I play TR, and I'm happy with all friendlies being red, VS stuff being purple, NC being blue, and squad and platoonmates are the colour of their squad. The only problem is, Charlie squad is purple, which means in or der to avoid confusion, I had to set the VS to hot pink. Oh well, at least they look *FABULOUS*!

I miss the old color setup. Even with no customization, I still preferred it just because it was so... simple. I wish there was an option to change back to this, or go with custom.

Ya, if they put in custom map colors then fine. If not, Empire colors should be on the map. I mean that's just the minimum to make zerg sheep care about why and whom they are fighting. I dread having planetside players who play for a while and don't realize that they have 2 opposing forces.

Not sure why they split it into players and facilities (territory + terminals). Territory and Indicators should be how it is separated. Having two opposing indicator colors for your faction if the facility/player options are different is jarring. That's just going back to the same issue we had before the indicator color customizations, with some assets being green while everything else being a single faction color. Would be even better to split it up in to Territory, faction asset indicators, and player indicators.

I second.

TBH after 30 something year of computer gaming my brain automatically connects red=enemy. Was impossible for me to play the game when the TR was showing red and had to change the color.

I really dislike the current live setup where I cannot change map colors at all, since I usually play with red=enemies, and if I'm playing TR it gets pretty confusing when red=friend on my map and red=enemy on my HUD.

I was happy to read this patch note on test, however, I think further customization would be ideal, as if I went with my normal setup then my map too would look all gray and red without any empire distinction whatsoever.

Not sure exactly what I'm going to do about it but I guess we'll see how it plays out.

I honestly like the current setup we have now. it's simple enough for me and a few others to understand. Except for alpha and bravo swuads in platoon, I still have trouble identifying between the two. That could be changed. but other than that, I think it's fine. But then again, we all have different opinions.

I liked it when blue were friendly and red were enemy, it's just for some odd reason, I couldn't stand when the capture points were blue for me! And now, I can't switch back because I'm always curious who I'm about to fight (say I see a purple sunderer on the map.)
