Ok so theres this evil TKing person in your empire thats ALWAYS there at every huge battle TKing your Empire mates...

Sure he'll get punished by the Grief System but whats to stop him from TKing again and again after his 'Immobility Period' ends?

The 4th warning thing I read some where said that he'll be banned... but thats during the period when he cant fly/drive fast or shoot and when that ends he'll go TKing again.

I imagine of someone gets there weapons locked repeatedly he will get "special attention."

Everplay BF1942? That is one reason that game just sits on my hard drive. If they aren't TKing, they are driving the Carriers off the map, or parking Truck in the runway as you go to take off.

As it was explained to me, Grief Points works like so (of course, ignore exact numbers and actual punishments those are guesses; BUT the way the system is layed out is how it will be TTBOMK):

Bob the Evil Plumber likes to TK. So, he goes to a battle and blasts his "buddies." He earns 15 TK points (1 kill = 1 point). The punishments works as so: at 5 TK points (Level 1), you cannot use that same gun you used to kill people with. At 10 TK points (Level 2) you cannot drive/ride any vehicles and lose a few more of your weapons. At 15 TK points (Level 3) you cannot do anything. You technically become a moving target.

Grief points are forgiven over a period of time. Let us say 12 hours pass and 1 point is "forgiven." He still has all the level 2 penalties from the previous day. So, he just has to kill one person for Level 3 penalties to incur again. From what I understood, when "Level 3" is reached a certain number of times over a period of time (or perhaps overall?) then suspending/banning occurs. Anyway then, he just can't keep killing people because grief is forgiven over a period of time. It wouldn't be as if after a few hours he get's to go on a rampage again. :p

Yeah besides i'm sure the Dev's and staff will closely monitor any complaints about rampant TKing.

^ Sort of, there are CSR's on duty all the time (Customer service reps) If someone is a constant TKer like that they will be banned.. and probably will not be back.

TKers like this will probably be fairly rare, who wants to bay 10$/mo to run around and TK and get their weapons locked every day.

Losers? Idiots?

:)

Trust me even with the PtP there will be some TKers, not rampant stuff but a few from time to time.

Yea and even then it looks like there are some great safegards in place.

On another bright side, people cant run and steal your vehicles unless your stupid enough to set public permissions on it :p

Yeah i think Tking will be a very small problem in this game. I'm quite impressed by the Dev team. :)

Whats the deal with stealing friendly vehicles.. aren't they free?

I mean I understand if your out in the middle of no where park your tank and find a tree to do your business and when you get back... your tanks gone because the gunner got bored, switched seats and drove away... Thats one good reason for having permissions set..

Hamma
2002-11-30, 02:09 PM
You cant get a vehicle unless you have the Certification for it, and you cannot drive a vehicle you dont have a cert for.

There is no field of empty vehicles waiting to be used, when you need one you must spawn it, at that point only you can get in. THen you can set permissions on it such as "Outfit Only" "Squad Only" things like that. So your gunner cant drive off, unles of course he has a cert and you allow it.. that raises a question tho.. are permissions seat specific

Alright so I'm planning on being a Troop mover Galaxy/APC Pilot/Driver.

So does that mean I'll need two certs for Air and Ground?

Hamma
2002-11-30, 02:15 PM
I believe you will need to earn a cert for evey vehicle you want to drive.

We will be getting more details on certifications soon as its part of our dev interview.

As Hamma half-stated the "deal" with not being able to take friendly vehicles is because you need to spanw them and you can't spawn 5 vehicles in one shot so if you spawn a new heavy tank and get ready to hop in but your buddy steals it you have to sit there for a few mins and wait to be able to spawn a new one, meanwhile your buddy is rackign up BEPs. :)

Powerflux
2002-11-30, 02:19 PM
Hmmm... guess I'll need to keep a Bolt-Driver handy incase I see anyone running towards my vehicles once it spawns... :D

io
2002-11-30, 02:53 PM
Well if they (Dev team) are smart the default setting for vehicles will be owner only, then once you hop in you can allow others to use it. :)

Hamma

Im sure thats how it will be :D

id have to agree, why what would be the point in it being any different, it wouldnt make any sense atall.

I think we should pass a law that people who TK alot should be put on an isle in the south pacific with five days of food and a parring knife. Rich rebublicans could pay 3000 a day to hunt and kill these peole, and we could put it on pay per view.

Jinxmasta

Now that is a good idea! Or we could also do "Liberty City Survivor" where the people all get grenade launchers and stuff and hunt each other down...

Vehicles owner only? I'd be setting it for only my squad or anyone in NC. I mean, if you hop out and die, does the tank just sit there?

Jinxmasta
2002-12-02, 07:54 AM
Read Dio's idea of it first being owner only and then it changes to any friendly... or enemy if you leave the vehicle or die.

I think for the tanks, they may become team-only, with some story excuse such as 'when the tank pilot dies, his dna signature is nullified which is relayed by sattelite to the tank. Subsequently, the tank becomes team only'

Tobias

when you die the vehicle is still yours i believe unless someone else starts driving it, then its theirs.

Yeh, but what we're saying is if you locked it so it's only yours, and you die. You could end up with a vehicle where the only person that can drive it is a continent away =S

At first i didn't understand what you guys meant by TKing...but from what i've gathered it's the same as PKing...just your own team mates (t standing for Team...duh)

Frankly i can't understand why anyone would want to do this on purpose. It's kind of silly to be in a 3 faction war and to be firing on your own guys. Granted, we all have accidents, but if you have a big enough accident that you're killing your own team it should be investigated and harshly punished.

Hmm, i just noticed something. The subject on this thread seems to have changed from it's original purpose. Oh well, what i said is still valid, just a little off topic.

Some people kill teammates because they live to annoy people, typically, though i hate to admit it, most of them are teenagers. They seem to live off of the malice and hatred they cause.

Basically, people tk for 3 reason

1.) because they suck

2.) because they want to be noticed

3.) because they are spiteful assholes

i'm sure someone will come along to give a better explanation, but this is how i see it.

Tobias

I think most of them TK cause their blow up girlfriends left them.

aye for instance on Sullon Zek, a roleplaying Dieity Team PvP server on EQ their is no PnP (play nice polocy) so you can grief and not get in trouble, and i rember as my first char on that server (a dark elf wizard, sucked), in the forest, people would train skellys to the newbie log just cause they could wipe out all the level 1-4 medding there. No point to griefing the other players other then to be an asshole, but they did it. On a server with a three way faction war, just so they could prove they were 24 and still lived in mom's basement and ate fish heads.

Mean people suck.

... and TKers are mean. So go ahead and apply the formula. ;)

Hey, wait a minute, i'm 24 and live in my mom's basement....don't eat fish heads though. Oh yeah, and i have a little thing called a "social life" that doesn't relate to games at all. I guess that's what seperates me from the griefers of the world. That, and too much self respect.

On a lighter note. This game is gonna rock! :D

yeah, TKers suck @ss big time, n as i teenager i hate to admit it but most of them are my fellow teens, they give us a bad name......

but i do think the grief system and the monthly cost will make TKers fairly obsolete, there will e some obviously, but not to a great extent.

There's nothing that annoys me more in BF1942 when a guy on your team will just start killing everyone for no reason and also parking all the jeeps and tanks in front of the runway so planes can't take off unless extremely skilled... and lucky.

Hamma
2002-12-02, 09:11 PM
Well PS vehicles can take off vertically so nobody will be parked in your way. :D

and what is this "social life" you all speak of?

social life, wats that?

Sytadel
2002-12-02, 10:12 PM
Social life? Where do I download one of those?

Back on subject, I think TKers wont be a big issue in this game. All you have to do is look at how zealously valiant people seem to be towards their own empire (although, I must admit, I can't get into the PR thing). Not to mention that people are generally better on Pay-to-play games, because it's obviously costing them money. The community on battle.net can be pretty horrible sometimes.

m0rphiu5
2002-12-02, 10:23 PM
:stupid:
yeah, pay 2 play games would be much better, simple logic.....

besides we'll kill ne TKers neway, lol (im so glad that the grief system has been left open for corparal punishment within a squad, i can see the executions happening :D)

:sniper: >:| OR  =

sorry bout smilies, had to be done
