View Full Version : What is the best weapon(s) for AA? or atleast area denial

Hi everyone!
I've been playing playing this game for 1 month and so far, I LOVE IT
Aside from a couple of weapon things, I've found that this game is mostly pretty balanced
except....
Spawn camping.... Literally my most hated thing in the game
The worse is LOLpods campers, no skills flyers that sit at entrances to bomb the ever loving crap out of infantry that dare to try to turn the tide
Which brings up my question, what is the best weapon to deal with these yahoos? As I'm not quite good enough with the default S1 to take them down
AA launcher? Dual bursters?
I don't even care if all it doesn't net me that many kills, I just want them out of the way so that I can actually LEAVE the spawn building in peace

Dual busters for sure. AA launchers are easily defeated but skilled flying and decoy flares, if its just you.

If you reach the point where you are spawncamped, it is time to spawn somewhere else and pull a sundy if you want to "turn the tide."

Disregarding Neutral's helpful analysis, Dual Bursters is what you want.

Shoulder fired rockets are great for killing bad pilots and chasing away weak pilots.
Against good pilots you need dual bursters or skygaurds are needed against good pilots.

Guys, the OP is Vanu. Buy a Lancer. That'll scare em off good if they are just spawn camping.

Bring another ESF from your warp gate to chase them off or dual bursters

Yeah, Lancers are the ultimate air-combat cannons. :huh:
But in all seriousness, a dual burster will get the job done the quickest.

Single shot until you get the lead right once you get that you can charge shot all day and make most pilots bail.

Single-shotting into em will probably get em to bug out, but you'd be better off surprising them with a charge-shot then finishing them, if they stay around, with some singles. Train yourself on singles of course, the lead is the same for all shots.

When harrasers come out I'm hoping the Skyguard will get some love. A Harraser toting around a Burster MAX will be infinitely more effective than it anyhow.

The weapon you need for what you want is called the Phoenix.
You can fire it from inside the spawn room and one hit kill enemy ESF.
No one dares to hover near a NC spawn building, while I do it a lot against the VS.
Today I was on a great kill streak on Esamir, but the NC were taking the base adjacent to the TR warp gate, I went there, found the enemy sunderer, started circle around with the underbelly engine, so I stay in motion while I fire, so almost all small fire and unguided missiles miss me, and a Phoenix user hit me, like I allways say, if you are hit by and unguided rocket and die, I am ok with that, but when it happen to the Phoenix, I really want to rage quit the game.

Dual bursters have only one concpet to master, lead your target, once you can judge by eye how fast the plane is moving vs how far ahead you need to shoot, you can even make planes streaking by fast your bitch :D

3 people in a single harraser vs 3 people in skyguards for AA defense? I'll go with three people in skyguards.
As the AA max in the Har will have limited field of view to boot and will need to get in and out constantly.

On a some what off topic note regarding the Lancer. My god it's so OP when compared to the Striker right now as the Striker is bugged and only do damage every second time you reload. Witch lowers the TTK on it way under the Annihilator. And no one bathers to fix that bug either.

Dual bursters or any G2A launcher ruins our farm quite easily. But if you are being camped in the spawn room the fight is probably over unless you have support en route. So stop spawning there if you don't want to be farmed, the ESF pilot doesn't make you step outside. Another good idea for ya would be to roll with an outfit if you aren't already. AA works best when applied in numbers since it scales in favor of you. So have an engineer and at least two or three bursters and watch all the pretty ESF go poof.

Dual Bursters are excellent; strongly recommended if you want to deter the LOLpodders. Just pull dual bursters and use the elevator beam to get on the roof of the spawn; plenty of obstacles to duck behind if they try to get you, and you can always "charge" if things get too hot. Takes a lot of rocket spam to kill a MAX, and whilst the pilots are after you, they're not raping the infantry.
In one way they are too good though; their effective range is far too long. Range needs to be reduced, but damage retained.

Dual bursters. It was my first SmedBux purchase. If you are in a small outpost you don't even need to step outside and risk damage if the air is crowded enough, just stand by the doors or look out the roof since you can shoot out and the enemy can't shoot in. If you add in the new longer capture times this becomes a non trivial source of exp.
The magazine quantity upgrades might seem a little expensive, but I found myself needing to reload while my targets were still in view, so I bought the magazine upgrades. I'd also suggest at least a few upgrades on the flak armor as most of your damage taken is coming from explosions. My AA max is my highest SPM character.

Duel bursters. It has the most practical effectiveness. You can take down half the health of an ESF with G2A missiles within ten seconds, or destroy an ESF two times over in the same amount of time with duel bursters.

since everyone and their mother mentoned the burster already ill jsut say that on a vehicle go for the Walker. The Ranger is morel likely to scare the bugger off.
Skyguard........it works agaisnt libs and galsl at mid range....not so much against ESFs beyond closeish range.

Indeed. The Ranger's sole value is that it makes the pilot think you have Bursters and bug out. Only a quick glance at the health bar will uncover your clever ruse.

I'm going to spice this ruse up by using the Ranger on the Harraser anyway, with a nasty suprise on the backseat.

The lock on AA launchers are pretty weak. The only ability they grant you is to scare off new pilots while you are between MAX and Lightning timers (or when you're driving an AMS and don't want to pull your MAX).

To be honest, the Lancer is a more efficient buy if you're not as good a player. It's not on a MAX unit so you can move around better, and it can damage armor & MAXs as well as aircraft. Of course, it's all situational. I think Lancer sees more situations to be useful in.
It's only a thousand certs, maybe a little more, to get the full use out of Lancer. Other weapons will take more certs to get full use.

6. respawn at the place that is capping in 1-2 minutes because they are all checkpoint racing for capture points.

- Dual bursters are the best choice
- Lock-ons scare people off, but won't give you many hits. Even less kills. Only really effective in groups of 3+ or with burster support
- Skyguard is nice but too situational and can be taken out by good ESF pilots without oo much trouble. Needs a lot of practice to be used effectively. Also skyguards are best used in packs to cover each other. A single skyguard is not easy prey, but air can hunt it down if they know what they are doing.
- Ranger is a joke
- Walker is pretty decent . Two of those on a sundi shred air pretty fast
- Lancers are nice but only scare off bad pilots. Good pilots will be pretty hard to hit once they notice that there is a Lancer on the ground
