Don't even try to relate this game to TF2. TF2 is a cartoon version of Call of Duty. Call of Duty is a cartoon version of BF3. Planetside 2 is a FTP awesomeness, whereas the camos are actually useful for something outside of "looking kewl"

You, sir, are wrong on so many levels it's not even funny. TF2 is a great game. The classes are balanced, unique, fun and the style is fantastic. It will go down in history as one of the most beloved shooters ever.

That said, the MLG logos are just... poorly done. Many of them go past corners on the vehicles, and the Sunderer one actually leaks off of the roof onto the hood past the windshield.

I really want to know what is MLG, sorry for the ignorance guys.
But it is like I was talking in my outfit tonight on Amerish.
We were on a galaxy leavening the warp gate as soon as the even started, there were plenty of air units leaving the warp gate.
Some of them using that new trim, I don't know the right name, it is that glowing effect on the vehicle.
Some of them already had complains about the flaming skulls, now, that is kind of ridiculous for a war "simulation" game.
As I explained for them, guys, this is not Arma, people come here to have fun, we already got camo for almost all environments, now let them have stuff for fun, I really think the galaxies with that new lights on it are the first to be full.
But we also confirmed that they are the first the enemy engage to kill! It is like the under lights for the tanks, they are fun on the warp gate, but please, turn then off as soon as you leave the warp gate or you will be target number one to the enemy!
I also think the storm trooper helmet for the TR really don't need that arrow over it, maybe just the small triangle representing the TR logo, but even that I would not have on it. Like everyone is talking about, it is a remimder to the enemy that he should go for head shots!

Yeah, I'd rather PAY FOR EVERY NEW GUN and buy my 10x XP boost because otherwise I get 1cert every hour. Why can't I pay to be OP like I do on the iPhone my mother got me for my 5th Birthday?

The the most silly thing so far has been the St. Patrick's day camo, imo.
So far it doesn't seem like they are willing to go overboard with the cosmetic silliness, it could and still can be a lot worse. Here's hoping that PS2 doesn't become TF2 silly.

It should come as a surprise, but having the game render only 1 instance of texture in populated areas will conserve some RAM. Not to mention how much good it'll make for machinima and stuff.
I mean, the camo is supposed to be purely aesthetic now isn't it? If it had any effect on gameplay, it would surely be abused, wouldn't it? *cough*Giraffe*cough*

While I can see where you are both coming from ^^, the damage has allready been done.
The camos are allready being sold as more than astetics with the names and the artwork used on them. There has also been a number of promotions ive seen where the tactical advantage of having a cammo was used in the SOE advert.
With regards to the cammo toggle, this will never happen.
Ive allready spent smed bucks on cammos, purely for the tactcial advantage. I dont ever get to see these in action, everyone else does. If you then switch them off, what was the point in me buying them.
SOE are in this to make money. It will be pumpkin hats, rambo headbands, chuck norris hair and chainmail bikkinis before long.

the decal is not that great but it was free.
as long as the cosmetic stuff doesn't get too stupid looking i like it. the stuff to come that they have shown is more like future versions of gear we use in todays military. if they keep this trend then up then ok.

i totally want a button to render every soldier and vehicle in standard edition.
nr.1 reason are the skull helmets (and any future clown-stuff that will come for sure).
i don´t want to be killed by clownish idiots. if i want to, i play saints row or tf2.
nr.2 reason is, that the only way to identify an enemy in ps2 is spamming the q key.
because the camos and different cosmetics totally kill every friend or foe detection.
in ps1 i always knew if the soldier hundrets of meters away was an enemy or a friend. in ps2 i don´t even notice an enemy if he stands directly in front of me. i don´t care if someone paid for their camo and the tactical advantage. if that´s the problem, let me pay for the tactical advantage to turn cosmetics off!

Yeah, the point of camo in the game is not to blend into the environment - it's to blend into the enemy faction.
Whether that was the designers' intention or not, I don't know, but that's how it is being used. There isn't enough difference between the silhouettes of the different factions to make them immediately identifiable with a glance, or at least not for me. I find NV reasonably easy to identify, but my VS has been killed by a lot of TR that I couldn't quickly identify as the enemy.
In the time I spend looking for the little IFF triangle above their head, they've already started shooting.

Now you mention that, I've been having more problem with it recently (whcih I put down to more people having camo) but I also went to medium settings from low. I wonder if going back to low will make the differences more obvious.

but i don´t want to play the game on lowest settings. the new graphics and higher poplevel are the only things that are better in ps2 than they were in ps1. (i play on all high, textures ultra)
and on high settings i have major problems in telling friends and enemies apart. all the time! had it even in beta where no camos were used, but now with all the camos it is even worse.

Models and textures will be getting a pass over as T-Ray has already mentioned before on Twitter. Currently I think camo is poorly implemented in that it just wraps the model like cling film and it's particularly boring for a sci-fi fps. Maybe when the new default models/textures are put in then we'll hopefully see better use of camo on the player models hopefully more sparingly but still able to do it's job. Personally I think only the infiltrator models make good use of the camo on the mesh in how it's applied at the moment.
The camo, spotting and telling team mates apart is an entirely different issue that can be changed very quickly by using better IFF hud icons that are still in the game files from Alpha/beta days. Not too sure on the "foe" icons as they're abit too "obvious" but as far as friendlies go I'd like to see them reused.

With regards to the spotting mechanic it's another topic from aesthetics but it shouldn't give you as much info as it currently does like following the enemy around more so just the last known position.

Anyone who thinks of using camo for the purpose of looking like the enemy has no reason to complain when I shoot them (or even shoot at them). It's only an issue with some (mainly giraffe) of the camos and even then I don't think it's happened (to me) more than half a dozen times.
Personally the silhouettes, tracers and sounds that come outta their weapons are enough to identify them, not to include their overall "posture" and movement.
If anyone can complain about this it's infils because there isn't much to see except a blur.
SOE added v-8 for a reason.

I already thought on that option.

Like all people here said, the most powerful tool of the camouflage is looking like the enemy!
It is common to see enemy players on Esamir bio labs, where everyone is dressed in white, walking around enemy blob, dropping c4 and running away without retaliation, because everyone is using write!
Also it is common to lose health and shield, be near death, run back to heal and get ammo just to get TK to friendly forces. It happen even when you are in full health but the blob is big enough so you are hit by numerous players!
Like I said, if you are not and advanced fighter and are running with a Zerg, using camo from your faction will help you to avoid friendly fire.
I also think it is much more common to mistake TR and NC, the VS armor and helmets are too easy to recognize.
In my case I don't have problems recognizing the enemy, but it is sad to be the only one firing at the light assault dropping c4 while all the other just watch him.
Also, as an Arma player, I can tell the difference on US and Russian camo patterns, one of the problems on PS-2 it is that all factions use the same pattern of camo, what is bad and illogical.

The only problem with that items it that you can't turn it off, but wathever because with the actuall render system fire and lumifiber will not be displayed till a certain range (and basically ennemies spot you before).
Lets people buy what they like, if nobody do that the game will be fast offline because of bankrupt. Next time you see 1 guy who bought items thanks him for paied devs and server maintenance :D

The problem it is that because of that decal is free and come with boosters, I see lots of players using it, I have already issue an order 66 for outfit members using it, something all outfits should do right away!
Now my outfit just got 2 things on the ban list, that decal and the pink camo of the TR.

My outfit came across a guy in the WG with the MLG decal we surrounded him and rained down all manner of insults on him for wearing it figuring he was afk we had a break in the tirade only for him to say "Is this better?" after he had un equipped it. Many chuckles were had.
Personally I could care less if someone is wearing a decal or camo I don't like, the devs have to be fed somehow.
You can choose:
Bleeding eyes (f2p) or p2w (f2p) or subscription
Oh wait! PS1 offers all in one!
