View Full Version : Vehicle Ammo Towers: We can put a man on the Moon but we can't do this?

Why do vehicle ammo towers still suddenly spring into existence as you start to get within range of them? It doesn't matter what your graphics settings are or how far your rendering distance is.
What's so special about ammo towers where they're treated differently from every other structure in PS2? It's not like ammo towers are the tallest building around.

Back in the late 60s/early 70s we had the technology to put men on the moon, and reliably render ammo towers at all distances.
Now, with thirty years of further development.....we're ten years away from having that capability, and we're just hoping the private sector will produce it. :doh:

Have they been looking all flickery when viewed in thermal by any one else?
Been happening since GU06 or 07, AMD card here.
Doesn't affect gameplay in any way, just looks a bit crap.
The render range is gameplay affecting however.

I had a funny experience with one last night on Esamir where I was avoiding lock on from an enemy ESF and flying low to the ground. All of a sudden I exploded. Then the vehicle ammo station appeared on my screen a second later. Talk about late rendering. It made me laugh though. :)

don´t know if it´s related, but i have several graphics bugs.
water is totally broken for me. the surface is broken into stripes with gaps between them.
and the ammo towers also have broken flickering textures. don´t know if there are more things, because i normally don´t have much time to look at the surroundings, and it´s dark far too often to notice such things.
(i7 nvidia680gtx all on high, textures ultra, nvidia drivers always newest version)

Yeah, I have that water bug too, particularly noticeable in Biolabs.
I'm AMD with 13.3 catalysts i think.

is there even water somewhere outside of biolabs?
well, i have seen it only at the biolab ponds as well.
but the flickering ammo tower textures are everywhere and it looks as it has the same cause as the waterbug. the interesting part is, that i haven´t seen it on other textures than water or ammo towers.
only had one other strange bug where every moving entity started to rotate and stretch until the whole screen was filled with stretched out vehicleparts, but i had this only once.

The same here! Looks like it happen to almost everyone!
We already talked about it.
My opinion is still the same.
32 bits shit engine that can´t use more them 2 gb of RAM (plus more 2 gb of VRAM) , so each time they include something new to the game, everything will pop up more closer to your.
On beta when everyone had the same model, no helmets, no masks, no camouflage, ammo towers were not a problem.
Now that you see most people with default look at 5m+ just see the camo, and just pop up masks and composite armor and decal when you get close, it is clear that the game is out of memory.
Buying a new video card with 2 gb of vram can help people with 1 gb vram, but I really think it is a waste to use 3 gb vram in this game if it wont use more them 2 gb and also with 16 gb of ram the game don´t use more them 2 gb!
I will NEVER understand why they decided to make a game using 32 bits limited to 2 gb of ram, while nobody will play it with 2 gb of ram, they should have made like bf-3, 64 bits only and fu.. who doesn´t use 64 bits, he doesn´t deserve to play this new generation of games! And I agree, todoay no real gamer plays with less the 4 gb of ram on the computer and for that he needs 64 bits!
PS: Not on linux, it is a marketing strategy having two versions of the same OS on the market, linux 32 bits can easily address more them 4 gb of combined memory and windows 64 could be used on all machines today without problem, nobody is making pcs today with less the 4 gb of ram.

yep. i got a 64 bit system with 16 gb ram and 4 gb videoram. it´s a shame the game doesn´t use any of this properly

Ammo tower thing happens to everyone. I have noticed some WEIRD textures on the skies of Esamir during its so called "night". I looks like northern lights having a seizure lol.

Today the game really reached a point where the lack of memory turned into a joke.
Three people decided to buy those new max helmets, and they made combinations with it.
We agree that the most cool one is the new one that is a big visor only combined with the old reinforced armor.
The problem is, they did that on the warpgate.
We were using the proximity chat to take opinions on it.
When more them 10 people gather around those max to see them, guess what!
Everyone were complaining they were seeing the standard max, also me, we needed to get closer them melee range so the game would render the new looks!
Each new cosmetics is really increasing the lack of memory in the game, I don´t see how or when they are going to fix it, but the critical threshold was hit long ago!
I didn´t test it yet, but since the last patch, no even bridges would render fast enough so you could avoid them, now that we got even more cosmetics, a base full of soldiers, I really think that maybe the ammo towers will not even render at all!

This has been a lingering issue since beta thats been fixed then broken again. Some things are just hard to resolve. They still have the multiple loading screen bug also :)
