The biggest issue with Vanu weapons is they don't have enough BOOM! I know they're energy weapons, but we as modern day humans enjoy our weapons with more bass.

Assault Rifle #2

Neither Carbine

LMG #3 for sure, though I heard the Ursa after GU08 on live before it was patched back and it sounded AMAZING. Like a bass/dubstep cannon.

Pistol #3

Nice heavy pistol at the end :p

Edit:

Too mechanical all around. The humming aftertones on some of them are great, but the dominant sound on all of them is a metallic clack that's too similar to every generic firearm ever.

Saw this in the youtube comments and couldn't agree more. I like all of the sounds and think they're an improvement over current, but I find after repeated watches it's the aftertones that I'm enjoying most.

Assualt Rifle #2, I didn't care for the new Carbine sounds, LMG #3-5, Pistol #3.

All these #s sound really deep and badass. Those guns sound like I'm shooting freight trains at the enemy.

Also nice tease there Higby of the VS heavy pistol. It looks like it will be a Lasher pistol.

AR: 3
Carbine: 2 (if I had to choose, otherwise neither)
LMG: 3
Pistol: 3

Was that the new VS pistol at the end??? O_O

I like the audio tracks with more echo, and less metalic, because, they are energy weapons they should not have those metalic sound.

they sound ............AWESOME! with weight behidn the bullets.

now do the same for TR pls devs :)

they should implement all these sounds for different guns. the more silent sounds can be users for suppressor.

I like them all

put them all in

(now make TR carbines sound less wimpy)

Assault Rifle 4
Carbines 1 and 2 sound identical to me
I REALLY don't like LMG 1 and 2 they make the guns sound weak. I love LMG 3 though.
Pistol 2 suits the Beamer all too well.

Why not include all sounds for each type of Carbine/Assault Rifle/LMG/Pistol.
This would please everyone, and give the game that "combined arms" feel on an infantry scale.

AR #2
Also LMG #2 - it's pretty unique

I don't get why the Carbine/LMG would sound totally different than the AR.

Pistol Concept #3 is great, and should serve as a template for all of the candidate sounds.

The remainder do not sound Sci-Fi/Laser-y enough; yes, sadly the VS use projectiles, but they sound far too physical regardless in these sound clips. Sizzles, 'zzzzzz's' and such, or as what Higby first alluded to (IIRC) with these changes, something distinctly more Alien. None fulfill that role save Pistol 3 (and kudos to the plasma ball rather than bullet - is that a new effect?)

The vast majority of candidates sound like real rifles (more or less) with a minor sound effect trailing after the shots. Please don't mimic the TR and NC more than has already been done.

Assault Rifle #2 (ANY ONE BUT THE CURRENT)
The carbines sounded the same (but are not good enough I'd say)
LMG: 3
Pistol: 1

Preferably you'd go back and make them sound more energy-based with less of those sissy puff sounds and more of those sassy zZap sounds like the old Pulsar.

and for the love of vanu
re-do the Lancer's fire sound. it sounds too puffy, not enough zZap.

The only one I honestly like is the third pistol concept. The rest just sound like regular weapons for the most part... I wouldn't think "That must be an energy weapon" if I heard it.

Take a note from the PS1 Pulsar, that was a very distinct and good energy sound. Even the Lasher and Beamer were easily recognizable.

You can find the vanu weapon sounds on the list here http://www.soundboard.com/sb/Planetside1Sounds

Goes in order: 1, 2, 3, 3

Now can we get this for all factions?

If they all sounded as bad ass as pistol 3 I would be happy.
AR 2 is good
LMG 3 is good
Don't like the carbine sounds.

AR 4, Carbine 2, LMG 2, Pistol 3

Carbines didn't like much, LMG1 is awful imo, Pistol.. dur.

AR - 2
LMG - 5
Pistol - 3
Carbine - I kinda like the current one, otherwise I think LMG #2 wouldn't be bad as a carbine

Assault Rifle #2 is the best

Carbine they both aren't very good

LMG I like #5 the best or #2

The pistol #3 the sound is the best

and damn that pistol looks so cool.

Assault Rifles: #3

Carbines: Not too fond of either.

Light Machine Guns: Leaning more towards #3, but like #4 also.

Pistols: Definitely #3

The biggest issue with Vanu weapons is they don't have enough BOOM! I know they're energy weapons, but we as modern day humans enjoy our weapons with more bass.

I agree with Rasui. The new sounds have too much of a mechanical strike to them and less of an actual electrical/energy discharge sound. Remove the mechanical strike from the sounds entirely and add more bass along with some pulse width modulated sounds for the energy discharge.

AR: 2 maybe, not sure about which one of these.
Carbine: Not sure, I quite like the direction they're being taken in, but the need more work.
LMG: 3
Pistol: 2

AR: 2 or 3 (but still sound a bit too much "metallic")
Carbines: better then default for sure. But none that I really like
LMG: unsure, most likely 3. And I like this "charge up" sound at the beginning of 2
Pistol: none that I think fits the beamer. They sound heavy hitting, which the beamer is not. Maybe less of the "metallic" part of the sound?
The last one is nice, but /imho only fits the pistol, which seems to be the charge up variant.

But overall I think that Pistol 3 hits the style very well and should serve as a template. It sounds like a futuristic energy weapons and still very "meaty". The new sounds, although better, don't yet sound very futuristic.

From best to worst by category:

AR - 3, 2, 1, 5, 4
Carbine - 1, 2
LMG - 2, 3, 5, 4, 1
Pistol - 3, 2, 1

ARs are all excellent. carbines are too tinny, too similar. LMG 1 and 4 sound like toys, no depth. LMG 3 and 5 have fantastic wind-downs. LMG 4 has way too much pitch variation between shots. Pistols 1 and 2 both too sharp.

I might not be a Vanu but from a purely gun sound perspective.

AR - 2

CAR - Current or try again (both concept sound the same and not good, if you do try again use the AR 2 sound as the inspiration, though don't carbon copy)

LMG - 3 (though 4 isn't to bad)

Pistol - 3

Assault #1
None of the Carbine sounds
LMG #5
Pistol #3

And lol @the pistol teaser at the end.

-AR #4 (Sounds the most Vanu, the others sound like they have a mix of energy and normal bullets being fired)

-None of the carbines. (They sound too heavy, caliber wise, if one can say such a thing about energy weapons)

-LMG #2 (Same reason as the AR, sounds the most Vanu)

-Beamer #2 (Just seems to fit the beamer)

As other have mentioned too many of the sound concepts have a metallic ring to them. I don't really see that fitting the VS.

I love how the majority of the thread chooses pistol three. I would assume that it isn't just the noise, but that purty plasma ball that flies out.

2013-05-16, 09:15 AM
Well as Vanu weaponery is plasma based I really liked the AR #5, LMG #5 and Pistol #3 for the electrical and gaz flow noise effect (plasma is charged and follow fluid dynamics).

I really hope they go this way for the other guns.

I think the carbine sounds would sound good on the LMG.

Liked :-

AR2
LMG3
Pistol 3.

The Pulse rifle in Aliens 2 had a really distinctive high pitched shrill sound that was cool, could possibly use for carbines?

These are generally pretty good, although my favourites are the ones that manage that delicate balance between 'pew pew' and 'dakka dakka' without having too much of either.

AR #1 or #3 (not too sure on these)
Carbine #2
LMG #3 (hated #1 and #2, and actually quite like the existing sound)
Pistol #3

Assault rifle concept 3 & 5 I liked a lot.

LMG 2 stands out from the rest.

And I like pistol 2.

AR 2
carbine - current
LMG - 2
Pistol 3

The only one I was really satisfied with was the pistol 3. The rest sounded too much like a generic gun with some sci fi sound layered on top. I'd rather my guns just straight up sound sci fi.

More pew pew, less bang bang.

Assault Rifle: 1
Carbine: Meh don't like either and they are both the same.
LMG: 5
Pistol: 3 is the best but it seems that that is being used for the Faction specific pistol so 1 for the beamer.
Tweeks could be done to improve the sounds further, but these are my favorites of what's available.

Some of these sound like regular bullets. That should be TR. I want the 3 to sound very different so that I know who is who in battle even before I see them.

I'm not sure that there is anything wrong with the current sounds. The new sounds would add some variety, though.

why not simply use all of em and put them on diferent guns?

ItZMuRdA
2013-05-17, 07:32 PM
In general I like quite a few of them, though I'm not a big fan of the carbine concepts over the original. I feel like it needs a softer audio than the proposed sounds which mostly suit the ARs/LMGs better. Good stuff, though.

AThreatToYou

why not simply use all of em and put them on diferent guns?

do that

b/c currently NC carbines, assault rifles, and LMGs have different firing sounds for the most part.
You can DEFINITELY tell if it's a fast firing gun or a slow firing gun.

Jonny

My favourites:

Assault 1

Carbines need more work.. make em not annoying to listen to.

LMG's - I think the current one is much better than the ones in the video.

Pistol 3

Aveox
2013-05-18, 09:28 AM
All of these except Pistol 3 sound too much like conventional guns (TR/NC) with some fancy extra sound effects and not like energy weapons.

I think the current sounds are actually not that bad. They certainly never bothered me or stood out as being not sci-fi enough. If anything they may need a tad more of a winding down electric discharge/venting plasma sort of sound when you stop firing, but that's it.

MrKwatz

Pistol #3 should serve as inspiration for the rest of the weapons. None of the others really sound like actual energy weapons, but mechanical weapons with low undertones or reverb or some other effect added. The low ammo sound also needs to be addressed, as it conflicts with the energy sounds, needs to be more like a low pitch drone or something, a classic "power shutting off" sound, like a compressed version of this: http://youtu.be/bG71qTC2ztQ?t=2s
