Well for the two hours I was on, before the server crashed, the thrill of playing PS1 and memories of my times six years ago, brought such a smile to my face. Even when I realised that I'd forgotten a lot about how to play the original, it's just so fun, even more so to re-learn everything.

And strangely, despite my outfit members telling me that it'd make me resent PS2, it has actually got me more excited about PS2's future. I mean with newer players having a look on what Ye Olde Planetside was like, I believe this will go a long way to presenting our feedback, with a more united stance. If there's an event tonight, I'm going to be there. Just make sure BFRs are on the Spectator seats, rather than competing and To war it is :).

I really don't think so. I've spent almost 40 dollars on PS1 within the past few months so I'm glad to see I got my money's worth with the free 6 months. And it's only past PS1 subscribers. So i'm sure they will get a ton of new PS1 subs for all those wanting to try it out with the new populations. And I know I will be spending some money on SC for PS2 when lattice rolls out so support SOE.

Also, expectancy is that server is down to fix a bug where Core Combat hasn't been flagged for players. Probably to do with the server switch to the west coast back then.

Define crashing you experience? It would indeed crash for me as well after playing for a while (at least an hour or more) but only when switching continents. But it wasn't that big of a hassle cause I'd just log back in and keep playing. But if your crashing was more frequent and occurring randomly I would be annoyed too.

They weren't going to play PS2 anyways, and now it lets PS2 become its own game without having to cater too much to the previous games crowd.

Also, any revenue from ads in PS1 will actually now support PS2.

Dunno, if it were bundled in with another sub or free or whatever magic bullet brings the good times back, I'd play both. Planetside when I want to have a good time and PS2 for when I'm bored/there's not the pop on Planetside ;)

Seriously though, I played for around 8 hours without even thinking about it. Nowadays I can't go a couple hours in PS2 without getting pissed off (and 9/10, an accompanying headache)

I will say, I had forgotten how fucked shit was in the lower BRs. No MCG? Where's the fun in that? Also, fuck walking because I've spent all my certs on HA. Wish I still had my original BR 25/CR3 acct.

i keep crashing on my brandnew gaming rig with ps2 several times per hour.
and ps1 runs stable for several hours even on my 4 years old gaming laptop.

i understand everybody who shits on the dated graphics, the possible lag issues, and some weird decade old bugs that were never fixed, but ps1 is still the champion, when it comes to playing your own favorite way in a massive war.
even with the dated graphics and the danger of a massive cheater army i still prefer ps1 over ps2. i like some aspects of ps2 as well, and i will keep on logging in to collect my certs, but it will take a lot of time and work until ps2 can keep up with ps1.
so i keep on dreaming the impossible that will never happen ;-)
that people stick with ps1, soe takes note and does a conversion of ps1 to forgelight.

I played for a bit last night, it was fun to be back for a bit. However the server was kind of empty and I didn't feel like trying to find the one small fight.

Hopefully the servers gain some population over the week.

It's fun and all but I don't see me playing it much in the coming weeks. You have to dedicated a lot more time each play session if you actually want to have fun and be rewarded and I just don't have those free hours. I also cannot stand the infantry combat. Close quarters is just a mess even when it's just 1v1.

It's basically free to play. Actually it's better than F2P as there's no cash shop yet. And everyone got the 6 months access. That includes PS1 players and PS2 players.

Oh I loved it.

But I have to accept that there are things that are better in PS2.

Of course ps2 isn't a complete game yet and I can't believe the amount of rework the devs have done but.

PS2 graphics are marvellous. PS1, we all know they're dated blah blah blah but the key point is that those graphics will be very off-putting to a new players unless you already know that the game as a whole is superior.

Second the 'netcode' or whatever. PS1 is more laggy and less responsive than PS2. I don't know what they've done in PS2 but this aspect of the game is superior.

Thirdly, this is a personal gripe, I get frustrated by the amount of time it takes to switch weapons, it seems eternally long. I've noticed it previously without commenting but only in comparison to PS2 has it been really noticeable, at least to me.

I think treat PS1 currently as experiencing and Indian Summer, those unexpected days in October when the rain goes away, the sun goes out and the girls, for a short time, start wearing skimpy tops again.

Unless SOE devotes resources for a graphical revamp and for a netcode or whatever update (and I don't see why they would do that) then sadly I think that's all it will be.

yeah it looks a lot better in screenshots, but the game is unplayable because i can´t see shit with all that blinding lighting reflections and camos and fog.

really enjoyed the nostalgia again. More than 3 conts is great and having conts which are acctually big and not cluttered is refreshing/liberating. So long as there are enough people playing its more fun than PS2 at times. Props to SOE for the free 6 months.

It's a feature I missed in PS2 since I felt it added some balance to the game (like reloading time does).
e.g.: choosing between decimator or rifle when there is a soldier and max showing up on the radar behind that door

Maybe PS1 weapon switching could have made the knife and pistols switch faster since they are less powerful, though.

I've rarely switched to a beamer when I was out of ammo...

The free time was apparently give to everyone who has an SOE account that had PS1 activated anytime in the past as well as any PS2 activated account (no matter if you ever had a paid sub or not on the PS2 account). They just forgot to officially tell everyone about the PS2 sub getting the free time. Either that, or they unintentionally flagged some of the PS2 accounts on accident...

Lol, I think this right here is the reason why SOE should send out a mass email. The linked post on the PS2 launcher directs to Radar's post saying only past PS1 members receive the free 6 months. That information is wrong. Smedly tweeted PS2 and PS1 members get the access. So they really should send out a mass email to correct that mistake..

Oh, and it happened May 20th. The anniversary of PlanetSide. Took about 24 hours for everyone to receive the grant though.

"Oh look, we have a brand new free game out but you must still have paid a subscription fee or have had an account on the new game AT AN EARLIER DATE to play it. That's just it. PS1's time has (more or less) passed. Let's be honest, the only income coming in is from the vets who I'm sure would be happy to make donations anyway.

My main gripe isn't the limited free time but the fact that it's not "free" unless you already made an account on PS2 at an earlier date. It's like saying "You didn't care enough about our PS2 game to make an account sooner so that means you don't care enough about our game and we're going to punish you for it by not letting you play now."

Blackdog, did you play PS1? Do you know the differences between PS1 and PS2? For one, PS1 did not use the free-to-play model. That makes a large difference in how the certification and inventory systems between the two games are done. There are no pre-built classes in PS1. There's more continents, homes continents with sanctuaries, and an inter-continent lattice with continent locking in PS1.

The base capture mechanics and many other meta-game elements are better developed in PS1 then PS2 atm as well... There's more vehicles in PS1 and the spawn mechanics are very different.
