they got their own region locked servers. the biggest faction is NC, I thought it would be TR. I guess its cuz the NC guy in the artwork is Asian.

did they start with the actual version, or do they have their own "evolution" of the game?
congratulations on the overwhelming start in china!
i guess it doesn´t happen too often that a free to play games server crashes on release because of too many players!

I can't imagine that they'd get a separate version of the game, outside of the language changes and whatnot.
I'm personally excited, CN players typically have a lot of love for the game and I can't wait to see what they start picking for their hot topics and suggestions.

Right, so if it's the same version (build) that we've all been playing how come they have stability issues? Is it a hardware/network thing?

I wonder what the rake is for the local operator. Put another way, I wonder how many 元 SOE sees for every giraffe camo purchase.

they have a different build because china puts restriction on play time and obviously has some censorship on certain things

That's my guess, and don't forget, we've got some stability issues here as well; Server and client side.

it is no surprise that the chinese have big interest in ps2. weren´t the chinese the only ones, who made a carbon copy of planetside 1? i guess it is no longer around because it was reverse engineered from planetside and i don´t think they asked for permission ;-)
but it shows how much the chinese enjoyed the concept of planetside.
will be interesting to see, how ps2 meets their expectations, and if they are happy or will join us in the big cry for more planetside in planetside 2.

100 yuan, which is quite shocking. I saw a bundle selling for 500 yuan.
in 1999 you could buy a street meal for 50 cents, an ice cream for 2 yuan. but starcraft was 130 yuan, and KFC was 50 yuan. I think the rich poor gap has increased even more, which led to these ridiculous SC prices.
I got relatives that make 10k yuan a year and ones that make 300k+ a year.

So whats the estimated number that will play on our servers. I imagine quite a few will go to Australian servers. Honestly we should be allowed to play our toons at any server in the world.

due to the harsh laws and censorship in china i suppose their game will not totally be the same. hence they are locked to their own servers.
after all, the original plan was the same for european servers and only the heavy protest of the community lead to long negotiations between soe and pro7 to make the free serverchoice possible.
i guess those negotiations were impossible with the chinese publisher, or considered not wanted/needed.

Needed to charge a customer base. US division is SOE, and not affliated with a 3rd party company, therefore the initial release was done in the US. Although, they did launch in the UK around the same time as US right? But I guess the agreement with the UK was sooner then China or Russia.

Good to see they like it, can't imagine the build is vastly different so not much work on the devs side vs the extra income.

Can this mean that they now feel comfortable with the direction the game is going with the lattice system and the addition of new continents. I mean release in china and soon Russia seems to be they are.

New Conglomerate: ***CENSORED***
....the N.C. began rallying ***CENSORED*** groups on the fringe of the civilian population and began organizing a campaign of ***CENSORED*** . It was then a small group of ***CENSORED*** -fighters that called themselves ***CENSORED*** staged a demonstration ***CENSORED*** the Terran Republic's blatant, systematic elimination of ***CENSORED*** . A large group of people gathered to hear their views; however, the Republic's Riot Police put an end to the demonstration, killing every ***CENSORED*** and even several innocent onlookers. Now, more than a hundred years later, the New Conglomerate, founded on the same principles as those supposedly slaughtered in the "alleged" ***CENSORED*** Call massacre, is determined to write a new chapter of history. A chapter ***CENSORED*** of the overbearing and draconian regime from which they claim to have emerged. Staging a short and brutal***CENSORED***, the fledgling movement ***CENSORED***, wresting from it control of several rebirthing facilities and the loyalty of many of its battered and oppressed citizens.
...
Guided by the idea that humanity deserves to be ***CENSORED*** to find its own path in the universe, the New Conglomerate has decided that the Vanu Sovereignty and Terran Republic alike must be stopped for good, and their crimes against ***CENSORED*** brought to an end.

I know there are very good reasons for it, but I think it is a shame that the Chinese servers (and community) is segregated from ours. For me, one of the best things in online gaming is talking to a very diverse range of people. Over the years I have been gaming, I have known people from just about everywhere except for Asia.
In todays world it is very easy to hate people based on what you see on the TV or read in the papers. I believe that by playing along side other people you will find that they are not so different from us.
I am not naive enough to think this would be easy. Aside from technical problems and the language barrier, most players would form exclusive communities based on nationality. But if it could be done it would be a step towards making a better world (even if it is a small one).

Just reading the9 web page and I believe it says that nearly 13,000 have already bought the annual membership and another 8,500 purchased the monthly plan. The peak number of players on US and EU servers combined is around 20,000 daily. I can't help but think the number of Chinese players will fall fast like they did on SOE servers when they realize the stiff HW requirements.

That video looks to me like a legit full ad. I didn't understand a word of it but it got me sold already, lol.
I'm highly curious about what's going on in the Chinese media and community about this game, maybe a dedicated China forum would be viable? Probably not but it would be awesome if we could connect with the Chinese community. There's nothing Google translate can't solve.

Other then the obscene amount of lag, certain Chinese outfits I won't name were mentioned by devs to be the largest amount of hackers to be kicked.

Not nessecarily. They do love their internet cafes over there, which tend to have better computers than most players.
