other than the two great ones Hamma listed, I love to play Total War games. Just something special about building up huge nations, factions & empires from scratch. Creating massive dynamic armies and then sending them to slaughter your enemies.

My greatest achievement I think came from the original RomeTW, roughly 1500 roman legionaires and general Flavius landed in Briton to be met by over 5000 screaming barbarians in 4 seperate armies everyone led by those chariot riding royal family leaders at the same time. 200 battered romans survived...... the britons, let's just say they weren't so lucky. :D
Watch words of that day were "Hold the line" and "A prepared position is a good position".

I love that game! Not so much PS2 but PSU!

As to the topic, HL; HL2 and a bit of SC and SC2 (single player)
Half life has the story, HL2 has more story and awesome game play. Starcraft has got a pretty good story and I like the tactical kind of thinking.
Also, some Planetside every once in a while.

Aside from Planetside I play some of the more well known single player RPGs out there. I'm an avid Dragon Age and Mass Effect player. I used to be an MMORPG fan, but I just don't have the time anymore.

I still mostly play PS2 but I recently created an NC character to play on when I just want to blow off steam and do some run'n'gun. When I'm on my Vanu I feel I should be working with my outfit and due to some leadership inactivity and poor decision making getting good fights with my outfit is usually hit and miss. When I'm not on PS2, I'm on Defiance, Skyrim (200 hours and counting), and Minecraft FTB. When it comes to proper shooters though, Planetside 2 still takes the cake and has kind of ruined me to playing other fps.

Honestly, the mmo market is pretty stale right now so ps2 is all I got aside from single player games. PS2 could learn from Far Cry 3's driving and cover system.

over planetside 2? nothing!,
I like playing age of empires 2&3 as well as company of heroes 2 and R.U.S.E, rts' are the main thing I play apart from planetside, I play these mainly because of the tactical and strategical value, apart from that, a bit of battlefield, and killzone never hurt, these two are just for the sheer joy of destruction.

Planetside2 is awesome for when I want some largescale multiplayer frag fest. But sometimes, you just need a change of pace. MechWarrior Online fills the slower paced, methodical tactical team play fragfest niche.

I play an assortment, from ye olde games such as Doom, Strike Commander and Age of Empires, to more modern games like that blocky sandbox game we shall not speak of, Dishonoured, Chivalry, War of the Roses, Civilization V, Total War series, (particularly Rome, one of my top 3 games I'll take to my grave), Arma series and of course the two Planetsides.

I play other games, because I'm a gamer. I play a variety of them. This question seems to focus on those who play one game at a time. Something I don't really do.

recently i have really only really played PlanetSide 2, Blacklight retribution (fills that niche of running around killing people when i feel dumb, even though it is a smart but quick game imo), and i have been playing the original Half-Life as well. i haven't really played much else, although i am waiting for the steam "summer" sale so i can go get the bioshock games, Fallout 3 (so i can mod the crap out of it) FTL and Hotline Miami. i need more SP games, because as much as i like PS2, nothing beats a good ol' SP game like them, i have kinda exhausted some SP games to the point where i cbf playing them most of the time (i have been trying to beat Max Payne 3 on the highest difficulty, i want to beat all of the Batman Arkham City side missions, and i still have a couple of side missions to complete in Mass Effect 2).

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - PlanetSide 2's infantry combat is rarely satisfying on a visceral level. Chivalry's melee combat, on the other hand, SERIOUSLY delivers. Chivalry is the only game I know of where screaming at the top of your lungs is both acceptable and encouraged, as long as you use the built-in Battle Cry keybind. (You should try it when you're feeling the rage, Noxx! ;)) Also, I get the urge to play it whenever I hear the ReachCast Community Clash intro clip.
Single-Player Game Of The Moment - Over the last few months this has been Dishonored, followed by Hotline Miami, followed by a quick replay of Mirror's Edge, and currently The Witcher 2 and Mark of the Ninja. Why do I play any of these games over PS2? They tend to have writing, unlike PS2, and different styles of gameplay.
Borderlands 2 - Yup, that not-a-glorified-team-deathmatch shooter. I have a couple of IRL friends who play this and not PS2, so we come back to Borderlands 2 pretty regularly.
Whatever Game My Friends Are Trying To Farm For Those Stupid Steam Trading Cards Now - Because although Steam Trading Cards are a total racket, the games linked to them are good games (Monaco, L4D2, Magicka, etc.)
