when continent locking comes, there may be sanctuaries, say, next year though.

I would love to have Sanctuaries which act like the factions base camp, Where in game actions would have an affect here, if you captured Indar, there would be propaganda messages on TV screens hailing the might of the TR , item sale of the day and members sales could be advertised here.

Would be interesting.

I don't see why they couldn't make VR into a sanctuary really.

Probably for the same reasons we have warpgate portals as decoration unable to port vehicles between continents , semi player collision that corpse blocks you every blue moon from a broken beta tele fraging fix . pluss the many other overlooked bugs and features that have remained unchecked or unfinished since the games release in favour of buff/nerf cycles and cash shop items .

I hope they do decide to add sanctuaries again, it was a great staging area for outfits and stuff, also used for trining as well in PS1. In sanctuaries you could prep for movements, go over the missions, and move to the warp gates in droves when it was time to move out. But honestly I cant see them not adding sanctuaries eventually, because once a continent locks are added were will players spawn at when they enter the game. The drop ship was pretty awesome as well, it gave the player the option of were he wanted to drop, you also had the instant action button, me I prefered the drop ship instead, it wouldnt drop you on the base but it would put you right outside the SOI. I really do hope they consider putting sanc back in the game.

Still the number one problem people have with the game is lack of accomplishment, you'll fight and never feel like you've done anything because you cannot really lock conts.

True it gets frustrating, but I keep telling myself to keep gaming and keep grinding because one day the dev's will see the light and when they get the game up to standard, Ill be able to enjoy it more because ill have the grind out of the way. . . . . . . :( am I lying to myself or what.

@ aadvark. have you played ps1?

the sanctuary WAS the basecamp of the faction. and there was faction propaganda on the walls there! it wasn´t dynamic (old game) but it was there, especially in the waiting room of the hart shuttle.

since there was no cash shop in ps1 there was no item of the day sale, but everything you would need to customise your soldier, cert vehicles and access to the vr room to test out weapons. (in ps1 you needed terminals for literally everything, so no cert changes in the field)

the hart shuttle had a timer and started every 20 minutes i think. it was reduced to 10 minutes later when pops dropped. there was a waiting room with a big countdown displayed over the doors. when the countdown was near zero the shuttle came down from the sky and landed. you could board and another timer of one or two minutes came up to wait for the last minute passengers. then the shuttle took off, bringing you to orbit aka the world map, where you could select a continent and then a landing point for your droppod. much like instant action just with manual placement of the droppoint. you couldn´t drop directly on bases and you couldn´t choose continents the enemy had totally locked.

a very refined system, and it helped with coordinated attacks, because of the hart´s take off shedule. drops occured in waves, not everyone for himself like in ps2. so even unsquadded players or players from different squads dropped together as one wave (if they chose the same area to drop)

also ther was a big staging area with vehicle and air terminals and a warpgates.
the best attacks were always coordinated from the sanctuary. big armies gathered there and crewed up their tanks and aircrafts, waited in formation and rolled off together when everybody was ready.
a sight to behold, when the whole army went off to a warpgate and steamrolled over an unsuspecting enemy.

the rest of the santuary mechanic was just like the footholds we have now. out of bound to enemy, friendly fire deactivated, always available as spawnpoint.

so yes, the potential of sanctuarys is great, and i don´t understand why smed hates them so much. (sorry, someone has to be the bad guy to blame, and i decided that would be smed ;) )

sanctuaries would instantly solve the continent lock mechanics problems. and they are great places to add new stuff like dynamic propaganda

Huh merging VR and sanctuaries into one would be the best option for the devs.

I mean its taking them this damn long just to release a continent, it'd just be a total waste of resources to spend on areas that will never see combat. VR has its training purposes, so why not just do an all in one? It would actually just be an interesting from the lore side of things if you could test out vehicles in VR, buy the loadout and then enter a warpgate out of virtual nanite land and straight into reality.

Because VR and sancs are two different things with two very different roles, that both require two very different setups to function.

VR is full of NPCs to shoot, and allows you to get whatever gun and cert you want for free to test stuff out.

Sanctuarys in PS1 did not allow you to even shoot your guns! And if we want them to function in PS2, then it needs to be just like that.

Being unable to shoot any guns means there are no bullets to track for both the server and the player. Means loads of CPU time can go into tracking players. Means you can up the player count in sanctuarys by a lot. There will never be combat in Sanctuarys, and never any enemys, allowing you to go crazy high with the player count.

And you need that. There will be times when your entire pop from one continent spawns over in the sanc, because they just got kicked out from the continent they were on. Now, instead of randomly going to another continent, just to never get a foodhold there because your attack is not timed, you form a raid. 600ish people of your faction all together, all going from sanc to the continent. This simply doesnt function if you can fire bullets.

With continent locking sanctuaries may have to be implemented to better balance the populations. I forsee issues right now with one faction getting stuck onto just one of the 3 main continents meaning less than a 1/5th of the max pop the game holds can be logged in. That could present an issue.
