They should have done this a year ago, or at least 6 months ago.

At this stage, the only people who can legitimately get 25 people to spend 10$ on the game without making dummy accounts are probably the Youtube personalities with large fanbases.

For the rest of us, we most likely already recruited everyone within our social circles who will invest in PS2. For me personally, I managed to get about a dozen people to at least try the game within one community I'm part of and all my friends at college play the game already.

I was hoping this news would be applicable to outfit recruiting but I suppose this kind of general recruiting is good too. Always need more fresh blood.

So all those good-looking camos and helmets that are actually liked by people will be recruitment reward only? Sure...

Everyone I've tried to recruit can't afford a new computer for the game. Babies ftl

I think they were kind of busy.

Does the person you recruit have to make a real-money purchase, or can they just spend certs on something like a scope for them to count as a recruit?

I have been saving SC for the black camo ever since I seen it. Now it looks to be locked to this crap as well as lumifiber MAXes and the badass HEAT weapons.

Any way to farm this without being a known YT name or streamer? Im kinda up shit creak with getting the 10 people needed for the MAX armor and black camo. More so for the HEAT weapons.

@Palerion-

$10 is the limit to be a qualified recruit.

@Hamma A perfectly valid point. There were more important things to do back then.

In every F2P game that a referral reward system is tried in, they always wait until at least 6 months after the game's release and the only people who ever get the top-tier rewards without cheating are Youtube celebs or popular livestreamers. As an example, Totalbuscuit was I believe the only person to get the highest tier referral reward for Tribes Ascend.

If they do these schemes much closer to the game's launch, you have more new players with free LMGs and boosts, and less dummy accounts.

You know SOE can't resist selling every little thing they can for as much as possible (loadouts, implants) I would expect to see most if not all of this gear in the shop shortly.

Well, if this had been around earlier I would have 4 recruits.

Agree with Purestorm here, doing it after 6 months is not a bad idea in itself. Not to forget that the game has now finally a somewhat decent new player experience.

Looks like decent marketing program. The requirement for new comers to spend money on the game seems a pretty effective way to me to prevent dummy accounts.

The rewards are decent too. It might actually pay off now for some people to make a kick-ass PS2 recruiting vid on Youtube. I hope Everquest Next makes it to the program as well when it comes out btw.

Given that all the rewards, with the exception of the heroic boost, are cosmetics, I doubt it.

Why would they cheapen the value of these items when they can sucker people into spending $100 to buy black camo?

Can i invite Pro7 accounts with my station account?

@Artorious I don't think so, since there wasn't an option for Pro7 players to log in via my link.

Well I think I may be able to get at most the attaché award, but to get the rest the only thing I can think of is dummy accounts. Meh, I guess I could do one or two dummies a month, and eventually get it, but like people have said before, if it had been done at launch I would have been able to do it.

Service seems down now, no rewards. This was the result of clicking on a referral link and signing up:

So they can make even more money, especially at $5-7 a pop for the cosmetics and weapons. I wouldn't underestimate SOE's greed if I were you.

Also in this particular case I believe invites and URLs can only be used once so the whole YouTube celeb thing is probably irrelevant.

I hope so. Back camo on a NC composite armor MAX with a Titan welding mask that glows in the dark?

One scary mother fucker! Think about it.

You walk into a dark room and first glace sees nothing but a shadow on the wall. But then that shadow starts to MOVE! As your wonder turns to worry you start to fire your weapon with everything you have only to have your foe still standing after an entire magazine spent into him. "It's a MAX!" you think as fear starts to grow. Now reloading you scramble to find cover, but in your mind you know it's to late and that death is certain. You look one last time at the MAX to see it come alive like some demonic monster. Eyes glowing, piecing your soul. Body emitting an evil light. Then nothing.

All you see is the black for a moment and wake up in a rebirth chamber. Was it a dream, some horrible nightmare now unable to harm you? NO! You got fucked by a MAX. Get your ass back in the fight, there is work to be done.

are those exclusive heat tank cannons pure cosmetic items?

or has soe now even added a level of recruit2win to the recently introduced pay2win?
what about the promise that everybody will be able to get every gameplay changing item for free ingame?
90 percent of the people i wanted to draw into ps2 couldn´t play it with their rigs, and the rest got bored to death because it´s just a hollow meaningless arena spawncamping shooter like all the others out there and no real planetside.
so i will not recruit anynody else until the game is redesigned ("fixed" is the wrong word because you can´t fix capital design problems with little workarounds that make it worse)

First of all, reddit didnt do shit. It was the platform of choise for the few folks who actually did the stuff, and a whooolleee bunch of folks just pressed upvote, while a smaller bunch of folks posted completly pointless comments.

And seriously, What the fuck? Could you guys STOP whining for a day at least? You idiots are dragging this whole community down to shit. Fuck, its even happening on PSU now.

Time for a rant i guess, stay tuned.

Please refrain from calling other posters idiots for no real reason.

While I don't share the negative sentiments that some people have towards this, I do have to wonder if it's the right time to do it. Wouldn't it be better to launch a recruitment drive when you have something new and awesome to show? Like a new continent?

I do think that they've made it really enticing to recruit some new players, rather big rewards imo. I don't really care if the exclusives remain exclusive forever, although I don't really like when companies claim something is exclusive when it ends up not being so. So I would prefer they stay exclusive just out of principal.
Some of those cosmetics however do look like something that would sell really well, so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up selling those defined as being exclusive at some point.

I think you're forgetting the people you would be recruiting are new. The entire game is new to them, every continent, every base, every vehicle. And even if you had played before and were re-recruited, you are going to see a new Indar and Esamir. Most of the gripes people seem to have are based on their own needs and complaints, not really looking at the big picture.

The fundamental mistake with this is that SOE are denying paying members access to content.

It's as simple as that. A referral system is a great idea, I think it'll be good for the game as a whole.

But the way they've done it with regards to exclusive items is not in any way going to make this program a success it's only going to breed resentment within the community.

Which is exactly what it's done already. The rage on the SOE forums is up to 18 pages already and growing.

By that logic, you should be able to buy certs.

Hamma

Right, just because you are paying doesn't give you the right to be able to pay for everything.

Selerox

Not at all. All players have access to certs. They get them automatically for logging in and they get them from playing the game. No player is prevented from getting certs simply by playing the game.

However, they are unable to access the referral items without taking part in something outside of the game. You are unable to get the items from within the game either by certs or SC.

That's the issue.

By all means, give players who gather that number or referrals those items. But also make them available to non-referring players as well via the Depot as with other items.

No-one would have an issue if SOE did that.

i recruited around 15 of my friends for ps2. But almost all of them stoped playing months ago because the game lacks content, performance, polishing, strategic and tactical gameplay.......and so on.
The game was rushed out too early. Now the people are gone and they want come back.

Thatd exactly the way to ruin a franchise. Congratulations SOE!

The good:
This could help to get more people in.

The Bad:
For everyone who has been playing this game for a while and gotten people to try it out, it is quite a downer to not have those past recruitments count for anything at all.

( 50+ members of the gaming community i come from did try the game and joined the Outfit i opened for us. I think it is fair to say that i convinced a good part of them to try the game. Almost all of them have stopped playing month ago due to various issues. While i can live without shiny rewards, it is disappointing to know you would have been eligible to get them, if you would have started to draw people in now instead of right after launch. And my pool of potential recruits is dry / got burned by Planetside 2 already. )

The ugly:
I understand you can not count registrations alone in a Free To Play game where nothing stops people from making a million alts. But why 10$ spent as the treshold? Couldnt it just be buy station cash + buy something ingame? Money is money, if they spend something that should do it imho. Or combine a low sum of cash spent with a certain playtime. 10$ is leaving a somewhat bad taste.

Hamma

The only downside I see personally in this program is the one time use links. The referral link itself is nearly useless for something like Twitter or Facebook since you won't know when it's redeemed. They need true social media links that can be used a variety of times.
