PS in CGW

Posting this on a few forums, not to spam, but to get the word out.

Well i got my latest issue of Computer Gaming World (CGW) this month, boy i love getting free magazines. Anyway, i flip through it really quickly just as i get it, and what catches my eye, but a Vanu male. Was quite surprised to see it, then i flip around to see an ad for each of the new empire specific websites (but let it be known, The Vanu's ad IS the best :)). Well, a few pages back was an entire 2 page Preview of PS itself. First thing i saw was a screenshot labeled "A squadron of Vanu mosquitos prepares to attack." which has a masquito in the middle, and what looks to be two extremely nice looking reavers on each side of it. Theres another screen of a NC guy standing in front of a vehicle (possibly the APC, i haven't seen it for a while) with a ton of bullet holes in it, very cool. Two seperate screens of a group of TR and NC guys, about to go into combat.

The preview itself wasn't bad either, had two quotes from devs, Kevin McCann and Dave G himself. They go through the aspects of why someone would pay the sub to play a first person shooter. They made a hint on the game being $15 dollars a month. One thing i didn't like to see though, was that the (estimated, of course) release date is now Q2 2003.

Go pick it up if you haven't already! It's the January 2003 issue of Computer Gaming World, with a Tron 2.0 front cover.

2Q2003= Sucky. But honestly I didn't think theyd be able to get it out before then, and it's probably for the best anyways.

Official release date is Q1, 2003 still.

And, for the record, the quote they lead off that article with is...well...a misquote. I didn't say it, and I wouldn't say it. I believe that the misquote was unintentional on their part, but it sure makes me look like a loud-mouthed braggart before our game is even finished. I certainly would never say anything like that...despite the fact that I'm commonly quite outspoken.

Ah, well...hopefully it won't be a big issue. The rest of the preview is quite excellent and I hope you enjoy it.

Afex, I take back half the bad things I have said about you. ;)

The reavers look F'n awesome. Like a mosquito on steroids. Definitely extra sweet eye candy.

I can't wait to see how they fly.

I'd say mosquito because yes it does look better..but I kinda want a balance between speed and actually being useful offensively :p (because the mosquito has a little chaingun as opposed to whatever the reaver has (which should be more powerful...)

No fun flying if you can't blow stuff up :D

I don't remember where I heard it, but the word is that the Reavers will have a chaingun and dumbfire rockets.

I also understand that it's a 2-person crew: pilot and gunner.

Pilots are going to have to learn the art of NOT MOVING! T2 tank gunners always have a hell of a time hitting anything unless the gunner knows when to NOT MOVE.


That reminds me... Has anyone heard ANYTHING about vehicle ammo capacities? Do they even have to worry about it (unlimited)?

Yeah well if thats the case... I'll probably fly the mosquito. I've found that relying on someone else to do the shooting never turns out well, unless you know that person...but usually thats not the case.

After T2 I have never trusted anyone else as my gunner. However, will we able to use any weapons as just the pilot?

In the Reaver the Gunner controls the Rotary chaingun, and I believe the pilot still has power over the rockets, might be wrong.

It would be so sweet if you were the pilot and you could just keep the chaingun fixed straight forward because the only way I would let someone be my gunner would have to be a player I know is responsible and skilled or be my friend.

On the bright side in a game like Planetside, people will probably focus on being a gunner. Plus people are paying.. etc. So I doubt the bs that happens in T2 or a similar game will happen as often

From my experiance on raids in everquest, where the virtual lives of 40 people might depend on 1 person, people in guilds are usally responsiable.

What that translates into in PS:

Your outfit will likely have people playing the roles you want. If you group with people from your outfit you will be grouping with people you know have the skills to do XXX and dont have the skills to do XXX, so your not gonna put johny the sniper in the gunners possition in your reaver, no make him stay in the APC till your in hostile land, then Johny can get out and do what he does best. In your Reaver you will have your good budy Chuck the Gunner, who loves gunning for reavers and galaxys. He plays 40 hours a week and all he does is gun, with reavers or galaxys. He's so good at it its sick, and hes on your side.


You get what im saying of course, it will be like a well organized raid, you will have each person in the role they are good at, and of course you might get Joe Blow the crappy Gunner if you /shout Lookin for a Gunner, but if your part of a Outfit, you will likely be with them.

I piad 9 bucks for the mag. I hate you Afex. But I was scanning through the mag. CGW SUPPORTS NC!!!! They has a PS ad in the magazine, but it was specifically for the NC! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

The Reaver is more heavily armored, and has rocket pods and a chaingun.

The Mosquito is lightly armored, only has a rotary chaingun, but can't be seen on radar, and has an "overflight" ability that adds ground targets to radar for everyone to see. In otherwords, it's a great scouting vehicle. It's also far faster than the other fliers.

Oh yeah...and there are THREE full-page ads in that CGW. One for each empire. Take a look at the pages before and after the NC ad. I think you'll see something new there. ;)
