View Full Version : WTF is happening here
Have you ever went to steam engine (the online game store) and hit the free to play drop box, and all these cheap MMO games pop up in front of you, and you kind of sift threw them and laugh because you know there not free to play, and most look so cheap you dont even bother looking at the vids. This is were PS2 is now, lost in a sea of cheap, uninteresting games that no one will ever download. And while the egg heads at SOE look at download numbers, and sign up numbers, no one bothers to notice that the paid sub numbers are dropping, I look at what they have done to Planetside and shake my head in disbelief. What happened to my Planetside, the one were I would spend hours playing with friends. Gen busting, base draining, continent locking, back when cert points mattered were they were invested, and XP and level ment somthing. I now see guys BR 100 and it dont mean shit, no since in playing in a team, everything you took an hour ago has been back hacked, actually you make more xp blowing turrents and hacking consoles and you can keep your K/D ratio really high, cause thats all that matters. PS2 has been Pimped out and put on a corner, this game should not be called Planetside, but then why should I feel let down, its free. But I guess there are some good things about Planetside to (it sickens me to call it that ), better graphics, lots of weapons to choose from (they all look a like and do the same thing), and look they have daily sales. Most guys say stop bitching, this isnt Planetside 1, its Planetside 2 and its better, if you ask me its not Planetside at all.

Its been on Steam's free to play list since damn near release. There was a time I was actively playing what was listed there as the top 3 of Steam's free to play games. Not sure why the hate there.
Subs are shrinking as that models was a dangling carrot to increase XP/resource gain. Once people got to a certain point they realized that premium membership isn't worth it.
The game still needs a lot, but I do think it is coming. My only hope is that once things get better hashed out as far as continental warfare enough people will come back to up the populations.
I know Wahoo, im just ranting, just leting off some steam Ha ha get it. Just a little disapointed in this abomination called Planetside , maybe im just being impatient. But for now ill continue to log in and just collect my certs and go play skyrim like Ive been doing for he past 2 weeks. TTYL

How you've been able to spend 30 days worth of time on this game if you hate it so much baffles me.
Also, no one cares.

well, they do seem like they are taking more and more from the planetside roots for this game so I do have high hopes still. they are not doing that bad of a job either. I personally am dropping my sub as I have gotten to BR 70somthing and no longer really need certs so the extra exp is meaningless, but I don't think I will stop playing. I am playing less right now though because the lul in content.

Nah. I care. I care when any PS1 vet comes up and says PS2 is failing to deliver.

If SOE put out major updates as free DLC packs, it would keep the game on Steam's radar.

I message Smed about this last year. From a realistic perspective, I just had no reason to subscribe to the game.
Extra Station Cash?
- 500 SC = $5, so why pay $15 for it?
Extra Loadouts?
- lol... why would I care? Really? *shrug* Three is more than enough.
XP Bonus?
- Alpha Squad or temp bonus are enough.
Resources Bonus?
- For me, I didn't use enough to care.
Passive Cert Bonus?
- I think the cert system is fundamentally flawed. While there are a lot of things that would neat to have, there is very little that one truly needs. As a result, after a month of play a person can cert all the things he feels he needs. The rest will come along in time (and will be effected by XP bonuses).
Extra Character Slot?
- Would not personally use it.
Early Access / Extra daily sale?
- Honestly, I just don't care.
Priority Login?
- This one pisses me off actually. Why should a pay per use player, who could very well spend more than $15/month, be treated like a second class citizen. Priority login should be given to anyone who spends an average of $15/m buying Station Cash or on a subscription to any SOE game. Money is money folks...
So of all of that, my only consideration was priority login and even at launch when it was busy, the queues weren't terrible, so I ended up not caring about it. That said, I wouldn't subscribe just to remove the queue.
That's why I never subscribed.
Now if they had 1 extra character slot on a server that is for subscribers only that had 24/7/365 customer service and network/server admins, that alone would be enough for me to subscribe. It would allow the game to play like a subscriber based game as well as F2P. I wouldn't change the cash shop in any way for subscribers though, as it has some decent value for the dollar already. I also mentioned this last year.
All that said, the game is (still) far too broken/buggy and lacking in purpose for me to take seriously. So even if Smed put my subscriber only server concept into action tomorrow, I still would not subscribe. Email me when you fix the game.

Actually the benefits are not that bad, and the price was ok, but i'm sure the numbers are hitting them pretty hard. Remember the sub-sale at the 6month mark? I think it was obvious a lot of players were not renewing and something had to be done.
I message Smed about this last year. From a realistic perspective, I just had no reason to subscribe to the game.
Extra Station Cash?
- 500 SC = $5, so why pay $15 for it? Well I subbed for a year so I paid <$10 for the SC and bonuses. It would be nice if it was like 750 SC instead of 500 though.
Extra Loadouts?
- lol... why would I care? Really? *shrug* Three is more than enough. ??uh I use 5 loadouts regularly on Max, infil and LA (and I hardly play LA) and 4 on my HA. Medic I probably only use 1 and engie two or three. very nice convenience.
XP Bonus?
- Alpha Squad or temp bonus are enough. I actually didn't buy Alpha squad. It didn't seem worth it at the time, I kinda still think that. I then subbed a couple weeks later and thought overall for the money was as good or better deal.
Resources Bonus?
- For me, I didn't use enough to care. It just allows a bit less attention to the resources. Even on a f2p account you can get distracted and realize you've been sitting at max resources for a bit and feels like oops I just wasted the opportunity to buy more mines. With the bonus it doesn't feel as bad.
One thing that does feel like you are getting when you pay, especially at the top tier. Not sure i'd call it pay to win but really the biggest benefit, you can throw certs at stuff and not worry that they were wasted.
Extra Character Slot?
- Would not personally use it. Used them to experience other servers. I like it even though I don't play on them all very much there are times. Again a convenience thing.
Early Access / Extra daily sale?
- Honestly, I just don't care. What??? Never pay full price! The added chance of having what you want come up in the daily sale is great... not in itself worth the sub price but a VERY nice perk.
I guess I can see where you'd be pissed. Was the thing that got me to sub since TR Waterson was sooo damn crowded at release, I think a 3 hr queue (that only took about an hour) was the max I saw the first week. I said then if they had a button to sell subs on the queue screen they'd be raking it in. Now it is a nice thing on alerts, i've heard people complain about being 60 in the queue to go to an alert continent last weekend... I was 2nd. That is nice, but it is funny (or stupid) one of the biggest motivators for me to sub was the priority log-in and that lasted all of a week and a half from release.
So of all of that, my only consideration was priority login and even at launch when it was busy, the queues weren't terrible, so I ended up not caring about it. That said, I wouldn't subscribe just to remove the queue.
That's why I never subscribed.

I also mentioned this last year. LOL... that would be beyond what SOE provides for even a subscriber based game.
All that said, the game is (still) far too broken/buggy and lacking in purpose for me to take seriously. So even if Smed put my subscriber only server concept into action tomorrow, I still would not subscribe. Email me when you fix the game.
I don't see myself re-upping the sub. I have XP boosters ready to go I purchased during sales and have yet to use. There really is not benefit I see in my future more than what I have to paying the money. There are still a few things I want but I have some walmart cards waiting for a 3X SC sale. Really the sub, rather than give me much tangible benefit may be the only reason I'm still playing. Last December I probably played 3 hours the whole month. I was ready to quit for good I think but that sub-money... I had already paid I felt if I wasn't playing it was just thrown away. So I came back. I personally can't say if I will stay motivated after my sub runs out at the anniversary date or not. But I know I don't see any reason to re-sub.

Holy crap that's awesome. A separate server for sub only that could be configured slightly different to run more like PS1 with longer TTK, fewer options for guns, maybe even a slightly different XP and certification to mimic PS1 more closely. Problem is that there aren't as many things implemented in PS2 as PS1 like hacking, CE, etc. But I'm liking the possibilities.

Filed under: Things that helped Planetside pop plummet upon Core Combat release.
Sure, Caves, BFRs, etc. Splitting the population is never a good idea IMO.
As to the OP, I don't mind PS2 being down in the F2P list on steam. If PS2 was relying on steam then yeah, I might be a little concerned but out of the dozens of people I've asked only one uses steam to play. It's just not where the core of the players are coming from.
I won't go into the rest of your post, because as a Planetside vet, I know that sometimes you just have to Rant. Just know that someday it'll be everything and more, even if it does take a while to get to it.

One thing i miss the most from Planetside is doors. Doors formed a barrier that couldn't be shot through which is a complete contrast to the laughable spawn shields they have in ps 2, which tonight were letting a guy in a prowler kill me as i accessed the equipment terms. Doors helped defenders be safe from vehicle spam, doors told you when someone was coming... Doors were cool lol.

If they just add a 10 or 15 usd sub which gives you everything unlocked and certed to the max (for the duration of the sub) i would totally buy that. Even without any of the other benefits like ressource boost, loaouts etc. I don't need that.
But paying monthly and still needing to "grind" (1000 certs is about 20 hours of playtime for me) or pay for the stuff I want.... no thank you.
And regarding the f2p games list. Well, they could do a free weekend... oh wait.

...hmmmmm....$15/mo SUb ...... and we get all of the good mechanics from PS1 (perhaps tweaked a bit here-and-there) .... ALL CERTS UNLOCKED ...... no F2P noobs crying it's P2W ..... and the focus is on CONTENT, Customer Service, Anti-Cheat / Anti-Hackers, & quality game mechanics ....... OMG ... sounds like gaming Nirvana.
I've always thought introducing "modular base design" would help the game. Every month or two, they plug-in new base modules .... that change the location of terminals, change hallways, stair & window locations,..... small-to-moderate tweaks that keep the game from getting stale as quickly (why keep each base EXACTLY the same ...... forever ?) ... REPETITIVE gameplay = BORING gameplay.
Also, maybe experiment with some soprt of an End-Game Scenario .... where every 6 months there is a declared winner .... ribbons, BR, hats, custom cammo, different tank turret (with same damage stats - just a cool different look) .....small but meanigful perks & rewards to keep the players sense of accomplishment motivated.

Amen, can I get a door in here please! It makes the abandoned bases seem even more lifeless. As much as I like the map design, the details are really lacking. A lot of the small bases look like paintball/airsoft arenas.
To the OP, its a year old game AND this is the season where all the new games come out. of COURSE they are going to loose a ton of subscriptions right now. Hell I just got Rome Total War 2 and intend to play that for a few good weeks until some new PS2 content comes out.

with the mention of modular bases, it reminded me of the talk of player built bases. This is coming to the forefront as EQ:Next is aparantly going to be one big sandbox game. I'm curious if the construction mechanism they'd use there would apply here as it's the same game engine.
But yes doors are sorely missed by me also.
So many simple things that they did in PS1 that were so meaningful. Like the medic and implant bays. I really do miss tunnel fights also.

The devs excuse is that indoor fighting is boring. But I see it being fun provided enough cover is inside and it's not too narrow.
Also, I miss doors. Bring them back. :(
In regards to bases, is there even a point in moving between one base to another on foot, which can actually be pretty damn fun sometimes? Lose your ride in between and people can just redeploy. Call me crazy, but I actually like knowing things went to shit in an attack that didn't work out and have to retreat with whatever's left. Adds to the whole loss/gain immersion thing you know. Beats zerging and pushing back to warpgates anyway. >_>
I cant sit here and rant about PS2  and say its all bad, the graphics are on point, the base design has really been impressive, the dev's worked on a lot of the issues that have bugged there player base, as well as the game. I will continue to play PS2  and I truly hope that the battle islands and the addition of hossin really give more content to the game.
I do have one question though, as a player I have spent pretty much all the certs that I can spend, for instance Ive maxed out my chassis on my tank, harrasor, and even air (I still cant fly for shit), Ive gotten pretty much all the side grades for all of my weapons, the side grades that I use the most, maxed out my repair gun and medic gun, maxed out my armor type that I prefer to use, that includes the max. I guess what Im getting at is now what do I spend my certs on, I mean sometimes I just waste certs on dumb shit, that I rarely use or dont use at all, and this is out of bordom, to see if I may use it, and I usually dont.

Unfortunatly they ont do doors any time soon for technical reasons. Ist been explained in a different thread some time a go. Essentialy doors are NPCs rning a script, and every one of those ncreases the load on the server which decreases the number of players before the gmae starts slowing down. That is also why Phalanx turrets are no longer automated and why we dont have spitfires.
Of course thy might overcome this over time but till then. deal with it.

Bottom line is that there is just not enough incentive to continue subscribing and playing.. The ONLY incentive, is if you have a bunch of friends/oufit members who play regularly to jus go around and kill shit lol..
I believe that ps2 has A LOTT TO LEARN from PS1 in terms of character progression and overall metagame.. Also as much as i hate to say, the F2P model has really quite heavily contributed to the game feeling a bit shitty lol.. :/
Hope the devs notice these big issues and start thinking of solutions..
One solution to improve the character progression is to make newer more faction based unique weapons and implants.. Items that require skill and many certs to acquire, no more of this pay 2 win bollox it just ruins it..
Also we need a LOTT more unique vehicles and specialty infantry classes that you can only unlock with CERTS !
