View Full Version : News: In remembrance of Marsman
Hamma
2013-09-30, 09:34 AM
Long time member of the PlanetSide Universe Staff, and Founding Member of the Auraxis Global Network Mark "Marsman" Marston passed away early this morning at his sons side after his health took a turn for the worst. Marsman was one of the original members of the staff serving as our Co-Administrator for many years and as the voice of the Auraxis Global Network.
But most importantly he was a friend that served for many years through some of the hard times, and through some of the great times. He helped to co-host AGN "Community Night" now called Squad Beacon as PlanetSide 2 was starting to pick up steam. He also co-hosted Ask the Devs with Hamma during PlanetSide 1 and posted many original audio works. You can find him featured in many of the original videos here.
Rest in peace, good friend.

Marsman was my original right hand man for PSU and teammate on the DragonWolves. But beyond that he was my friend. Within the last two years he moved to work the same place I do and took part in several live AGN shows.
He will be missed.

My condolences to the family and friends of Marsman.
It's news like this shared in forums such as this that reminds us that even with all the fun and games we enjoy together or flame each other about we are real people with real challenges, names, faces, families, and lives. Life is short...appreciate the people who are important to you daily and let them know they are important.

Oh man... Mister Marsman. <3
As someone who played the crap out of the original PlanetSide and has watched PSU grow over the years, I can definitely say that Marsman was always a great part of that. Wonderful guy, voice and thoughts regarding the game and community. I wish his close family and friends the best. My condolences.

My heart sunk when Hamma told me this. As he said, Marsman was so active back in the day with AGN and Community Night and his kind nature was always apparent.
PlanetSide was my first job in the games industry, and so the community itself was the inspiration behind any success that I ever had. Mars and Hamma were a big part of that. I'm proud of what we did together, and I'm glad that we live in a time when that work will always be available online. I may light a candle and listen to some Ask the Devs tonight.
RIP, Marsman. Thank you for the support and friendship.

Marsman was a pivotal officer within the Officers' Corps of the CDL for nearly a decade. His skill in helping others learn gaming techniques had tremendous impact on the team during our competition days in Tribes 2 ladder play. He was our go-to-guy. With him, Hamma, TBeast, Sentrosi, and Graniterok on officer duty, I knew the CDL would never waver in her course through the gaming minefields.
It is a tragic loss for all of online gaming. It is a tragic loss for PSU. It is a tragic loss for the CDL. It is a tragic and tremendous loss for me. He was a dear friend and someone who would go out of his way to accommodate my lack of expertise in technical matters, no matter how small. That was because he was a friend, and a great guy. He wasn't perfect and none of us are, but he was stalwart and faithful to the CDL for many years.
I am grieved to the depths of my heart with his death.
Crawling Kane showed incredible honor and strength by standing watch over him until he died. I salute you CK - well done Dragon Wolf.
I salute you Marsman - teammate, brother in gaming arms, technical counselor, and most importantly, my friend.

Wow....'ole Marsman. I can't think of Planetside, or PSU, or anything without Marsy. I had the honor and privileage to work with him during Planetside 1. He had created these fake news sounders for AGN. I was so blown away, he had written this entire script, added sound effects, it sounded like a news conference for CNN! I was completely floored, and wanted to meet the man who put the White in Barry White :)
As I got to know him, I saw a man with a deep passion for the community, an extremely talented leader, and a friend, with a heart of Gold.
Marsman and I used to exchange ideas, and pass sounders back and forth. I created these little bumpers for their show hosted by Hamma and Marsman. I remember one of them said "Hamma and Marsman...even their names....sound like virgins." It was such a joy for me to be able to work with these guys, to meet them in Florida, truly some of my fondest memories.
My heart goes out to Hamma and Jennyboo, to the Dragonwolves, to Manitou, to all of the wonderful members of the Planetside community. What I will remember from Marsman...besides his amazing pipes of course, was what he did for the community. What he did for people he never even met, what he did for me, and what he did for you. Rest in peace my friend, you will be dearly missed. Thank you for everything.

This news ruins my day. The man had a voice of silk and a passion for a game and community that is as dear to my heart as anything. This bond unites all of us, and when that bond is broken in such a tragic way, it leaves a hole that cannot be filled. Thank you for everything you did for us Marsman. This community lives on because of you, and in turn, you will live on in this community.
