I did some numbers. Maybe I'm wrong. But these are my conclusions.

Nanowave 5 & Resist shield

P. Shield: 500
HP: 750
Effective hitpoints: 1250
EH with shield up (50% reduction): 2500

Flak armor 5 & Standar shield

P. Shield: 500
HP: 500
Effective hitpoints: 1000
EH against booms: 2000
EH against booms with shield up (about 700 hp): 2700

So a Nanowave & resist has about an 8% less EF against booms than the Flak & shield combination. But with the addition of more bullet resistance AND direct hits from explosive weapons.

You can survive a rocket in the face with resist and nanowave 3, but flak armor can't.

Pretty sure Resist shield is only 40%. Also according to Wrel resist and flak don't stack, you only get whichever is greater. Combine these two points and Flak is completely shite.

When flak gets the planned buff to negate direct hits as well I'll reconsider it, but at this point its almost completely useless.

Yeah I know that, I calculated the flak with the default utility shield.

I read that the resist is 50%, but I'm not sure anyways.

Flak can be good for people that cannot predict damage, but been able to eat a rocket hit with resist shield + nano is more worthy.

Apart from splash from grenades/rockets from infantry or splash from HE Flak is never a better option. In fact I'm so rarely damaged by splash its entirely worthless IMO.

Flak only protects from splash, so rocket to face is rocket to face.

That's what I'm saying, you can't survive a rocket to the face with flak (because it doesn't mitigate direct explosive damage). But you can mitigate, and survive, if you use a nanowave + resist shield combo.
