So I asked Muldoon during last Friday's FNO and he said no weather is planned. Kinda made me a sad puppy but oh well. I guess with all other performance issues they are fighting they don't want to implement it and cause more troubles.

And less performance don't forget less performance

I was running around on the new battle island for a bit the other day. It has some fake snow which clips into buildings along with the wind. Kind of breaks the immersion. Even in PS1 the rain would hit trees and you could stand under them. That game was really ahead of its time that they can't even implement rain in a modern engine.

On the same note though I was more interested in true volumetric clouds to fly into. I think that's what was most enticing for pilots. The ability hide from ESFs and lock-ons by flying through or into a cloud.

And less performance don't forget less performance
The sad part is this isn't really expensive to add graphically, nor does it really take much to program in a modern graphics api. (Talking about rain and snow at least).

Well, even on games my POS rig can run on high settings one of the first things i'll turn off, after enjoying the work the graphics people did if it was good, is any weather affects. Nice for the immersions I suppose but also one of the biggest killers to FPS is almost always particle affects with weather. And it just gets in the way of seeing what I want to see.

I lowered my expectations a while ago.

That is a bummer. I would really enjoy the occasional rain storm.

Of course if you were to turn down the weather effects you should still get rain. To turn it off would be a huge advantage. The thing is my gpu isnt getting a workout in this game and frankly I think they can afford to put weather effects in.

There is a hidden plus side for weather effects, you dont have to process with the cpu for effects you cant see. That means in a heavy downpour, your cpu load should decrease.

So a big fekking +1 here for weather effects.

in beta weren't they removed because they decreased performance? after the optimisation patch i'm sure they'll continue to add it in (after all of the other stuff on the roadmap is added in first, ofc :D)

Funny how clouds were their big selling points on graphics in beta

At least they are honest about it.

I lowered my expectations a while ago.

Atleast some people still have any expectations for this turd.

Because i don't. The whole development of this game looks like a step-by-step "how not to" in video-game development.
Starts with timing and schedules, goes over design and gameplay approach all the way down to monetization plans and a completely misguided direction of the overall game development which constantly shoots itself in the foot. Top it off with inexperienced people making it who don't seem to use common sense that much and you got a nice study of things to avoid for future tries on the "planetside" formula.
And i hope by god there will be more tries and the "MMOFPS" genre won't die with this poor sucker.

Hmmm, that sounded mighty mean spirited. Ahwell, the netcode seems to be fine atleast. I barely got any lag whenever i played. That's good. And that's all.

They said that their current development process goes along the way of "how can we slow the game next??" and so on with this optimization update undergoing they sure won't slow it even more hehe, maybe in a couple years.... right!

A rain storm or two wouldnt be so bad I guess Im down for that, or maybe a little fog.

I think weather is in their long-term plan, but not in the meantime. That's always their position about it and you can qualify it from several different dev sources.

I hope the element that is failing us here isn't the engine. I have high (but tempered after this PS2 experience) expectations for EQN and would hate to find out it will head down the same road.... ie. stuff they'd like to do - but ultimately can't.

Perhaps it will get added in a few years when comps that can handle PS2 are common place. Depends how active the game is at that point I suppose.

I thought I saw a in game pic of a VS sniper in the rain.

Weather effects is on my list of things that I want to see make it into this game. I am gonna be very disappointed if they don't do this. I remember the rains storms and dust storms of PS1. It made the combat all the more intense.

id love to see dust/snow storms and rain and that it effected vehicle movement and couldnt be turned off that way everyone has to suffer a whiteout from time to time and mini maps go fuzzy because of the interference etc.

but shame it wont ever happen
