One day SOE is going add this to the game. I'm not sure how they are going to pull this off, the aliens might likely be just generic versions off are armies.

So if we had to choose which alien race from any fictional place books, games, movies and or shows. Which aliens would be worthy enough to give us a GOOD fight?

This just doesn't mean beast like looking aliens either, they could be human aliens like the space marines, the empire from starwars etc...

So which aliens would be worthy or are we to weak?

Well, the obvious one for me would be the one and only Predator...

asuming SOE would be able to work aorund the technical limitations they have now (as in doors would put a strain on the server let alone an NPC army) I would say there are 2 "archetypes" of aliens that owuld work on Auraxis.

Massive swarm of monsters like the Zerg, Tyranids or the "bugs" from starship troopers. Realy want to defend the stronghold from somethign like that.

Anciend guardian automatons. Some kind of highly advanced drones left behind by the original Vanu to protect something deep under Auraxis. A polar oposite of the "Zergy" aliens these would be small in number but extrmaly powerfull.

why does this constantly come up?

there will NEVER be non-player elements to shot at.

now, as a imagination excserzie i'll play ball.
I'd use that floating mega base for that... fill it up with droidicans (who go "roger-roger" all the time) and have them dropped on big bases from time to time. (sort of a droid zerg)

also possible would be slime. big hard to kill and slow moving slime. that creeps around and if it reaches and holds the CC in a base that base turns gray. might require spiecal weapons to kill (flame throwers?)

High elevation aliens (big baloons like mother ship aliens? manta ray looking fighters?) that would take a meta game into the 800+ meter elevations (Which at the moment are all but empty)

but to sum it up- WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

NPC's already exist in game, take a look at what you're shooting at in the VR Training Room...

Rather then a large invading army I'd like to see a single stealthy NPC, remaniscent to the Predator as mentioned above, Slenderman, Herobrine, or G-Man. The idea of entire squads or platoons chasing a phantom that has the power or AI smarts to pick off armys is funny for me.

Kinda reminds me of the Star Wars Galaxies event during the battle of Restuss having Imps and Rebels fighting over the rights to fight, kill, and loot the Emperors Hand while the EH murdered everyone indescriminatly.

It would be cool if this stealthy killer NPC rewarded something special or awesome for the Squad (not Platoon or single trooper) that got the kill.

I can't imagine that they'll ever be persistent NPCs in the game, and that's how it should stay.

That being said...

I love the idea of a single one-off mass event across the servers along the lines of an invasion of some kind.

In my head I have an image of some kind of World War Z horde rampaging down towards the main East/West ridge on Indar with the 3 factions holding the line.

It could be that the event could start on one continent and then work through each continent as the defenders get pushed back, with southern Indar as the "Last Stand".

I can imagine manning the walls at the Bastion against the oncoming rampage, or grabbing the last defenders from an overrun tower in a Galaxy, or seeing the tracers of the massed armour of the factions in the night over Esamir...

It'll never happen, but if it ever did it'd go down in history :)

I doubt that the server processing requirements for targets with the skin of a person or vehicle that occasionally move a few paces in VR is the same as the processing necessary for a fully orchestrated platoon or larger group of entities that can decide their own movement and kill priorities based upon the variable opposition of Players.

As stated before doors that detect when a player comes close and will open if said door is controlled by the player's faction is too taxing on the server infrastructure to implement.

And VR is hardly "in-game". how many hundreds of people have you seen in the same VR room? How many projectiles is the VR instance tracking at any given time as compared to any one of the instanced continents?

It should be some off shoot of the Vanu race that's been across the celestial cosmos on some great adventures of tantamount importance safe guarding causality of what not finally returning to their birth world to pay respects at their most sacred site in the whole Universe only to find it's been infested with belligerent itinerant humans with varying degrees of strange colours and behaviors who've bulldozed over everything and have yet to learn how to share or play nice with others not wearing the same colour. ;)

Zerglike xenomorphs, quadruped melee running one (between a heavy and a max), acid shooting ones (thin and very squishy, attacks from higher ground), few mastodontic hulks (bigger and tankier. size of an mbt), flying broodmother (size of a liberator) with swarmlike insects around them, something like this :D
attacking whatever player gets in their way, would love to be fighting terrans and then being invaded by these damn beasts aswell ahah, Starship trooper ftw! I would so definetly run the light assault with the underbarrel shotgun.

They would come out with an Alert, spawn on a set location and from there try to invade and cap points for them, until you repel them back they won't leave those places.

EDIT:

Want to fight these with my underbarrel shotgun!

Just watched OMFG 5 video where Trammel is cutting texture memory down and they are decreasing object variations in the world and I see this thread. LOL somehow I don't think this is very high on their priority list at the moment but yes a NPC alien invasion event would be kinda cool from time to time.

Let players play aliens on a server other than their own.

1: Each server's alien invasion takes place at a different time, scheduled in advance so there would be an RSVP for alien invader slots. You can also take a reserve/standby slot in case someone drops or cancels at the last minute. This gives some people the chance to play as an alien, and everyone has a chance to fight against them.

The server invading and the server defending will be announced (e.g. Waterson aliens attacking Mattherson).

2: ONLY Premium members get to play aliens, non-premiums don't.

3: A menu screen will be implemented where there is a "nominate myself" button, and the option to vote another candidate to be an alien. The top 24 voted plus 24 randomly selected lucky individuals(who nominated themselves, regardless of how many votes they got) will be your 1 platoon alien invasion force.

4: People who got to be an alien the last time are not eligible for the second time, and the more times your name is put in the hat for random selection, the better your chances until you're finally picked (then the odds reset).

5. No fighting NPC's/Bots. TA-DAA!

Now picture the best players on your server from all 3 factions fighting together as an alien force, with weapons and vehicles that are stronger and tougher than anything else in the game.

'You shoot anything that has more than two legs, do you get me?'

It would be pretty cool, even if technically impossible (for the time being at least).
Maybe we could even get the opportunity to see the factions fighting side by side to face overwhelming odds.

i don't think that this will be put in the game, because, like many people have said before, PS2 is a PVP game, a game shaped by the players. many people are against this idea, as evident by the backlash that Smed received when he said it was a possibility on the 10 year plan thing. he acknowledged that backlash and said it was only an idea.

but that's not to say that i wouldn't want to see something like that, it could be interesting.

but on the subject of thinking in the future, i'd prefer something like a BF2142 style titan mode, where 2 (in PS2's case, 3) giant ships fly and the objective is to take out the enemy titans by either capturing missile silos that shoot a missile at the enemy ship every x amount of minutes, or (once the missiles take down the enemy titan's shield) board the enemy titan on foot (by using squad beacons, drop ships, or APC's that fire troops in drop pods on the titan) to destroy 3 consoles that open up the door that leads to the titans core, where you can destroy it and take down the ship.

also some servers allowed for the titans to be moved by the commander (for some reason most of the servers i played on had this disabled :(), so there were some really epic pirate-ship like battles, where the titans got close to each-other and people drop-podded from titans to titan, while the main guns on the titans shot at each-other. god damn it was epic, i can't believe no one else has picked it up yet.

imagine that in PS2. missile silos could be on different territory, and the missile silos themselves have to be capped in order to use them. the titans would be devastating with their large guns and their invulnerability to enemy fire, making them a target that definitely needs to be taken down.

it would be interesting for them to be empire specific, rather than common pool, to make some variety.

one thing that i can't figure out is how they are spawned and who controls (pilots) them.

No to number 2. That path goes down the slope of pay to play, nevermind pay to win. If a "free" game has any areas/activities that you have to pay for other then cosmetics or unlocking things faster which can be unlocked free with time then I don't play it. Simple as (money's too tight).

But yes to 1 and 5. I like playing games with aliens and playing as them. Maybe the devs will make another game based on this. Now that we have PS2, I can see FPS starcraft games and the like.

My view is that you have got to have a vision on what Planetside is and what Planetside is not.
